Context of Proverbs 3:5
3Keep hold of faithful love. That will be like a beautiful necklace that you always wear. Think about what it means to love other people. 4If you do that, you will make God happy. People will also be pleased and they will respect you. Trust in the Lord completely. Do not think that you understand things well enough for yourself. 6Whatever you are doing, remember that the Lord is with you. Then he will show you the right way to go. 7Do not think that you are already wise enough. Obey the Lord and refuse to do evil things.

Commentaries on Proverbs 3:5
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 5Trust in the Lord with all thine heart - This is a most important precept: God is the Fountain of all good. He has made his intelligent creatures dependent upon himself. He requires them to be conscious of that dependence. He has promised to communicate what they need. He commands them to believe his promise, and look for its fulfillment. And to do this without doubt, fear, or distrust; "with their whole heart." Lean not unto thine own understanding…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 5In preaching “trust in God” the moralist anticipates the teaching that man is justified by faith. To confide in God‘s will, the secret of all true greatness, is to rise out of all our anxieties and plans and fears when we think of ourselves as the arbiters of our own fortunes, and so “lean to our own understanding.”Read the comment
