Context of Romans 11:27
25My Christian friends, I want to help you to understand about Israel's people. It is a secret that God has shown to us. If you really understand it, you will not be proud that you are so clever. Many of Israel's people have refused to believe in Christ. They will continue to refuse him until the complete number of Gentiles have believed. 26When that has happened, God will save all Israel's people. This is written in the Bible: ‘The one who rescues will come from Zion. He will turn Jacob's people away from their sins. And I will make this agreement with them. I will forgive them for their sins.’ 28Israel's people have become God's enemies, because they have refused to believe the good news about Christ. This has happened to help you Gentiles. But God still loves Israel's people, because he has chosen them as his own people. That is what he promised to their ancestors. 29God's thoughts about his people cannot change. He has blessed them with gifts and he has chosen them to belong to him.

Commentaries on Romans 11:27
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 27For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins - The reader on referring to Isaiah 59:20, Isaiah 59:21, will find that the words of the original are here greatly abridged. They are the following: - And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the Lord. As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the Lord, My Spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 27For this is my covenant - This expression is found immediately following the other in Isaiah 59:21. But the apostle connects with it a part of another promise taken from Jeremiah 31:33-34; or rather he abridges that promise, and expresses its substance, by adding “when I shall take away their sins.” It is clear that he intended to express the general sense of the promises, as they were well known to the Jews, and as it was a point concerning which he…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 22-32Verses 22-32 Of all judgments, spiritual judgments are the sorest; of these the apostle is here speaking. The restoration of the Jews is, in the course of things, far less improbable than the call of the Gentiles to be the children of Abraham; and though others now possess these privileges, it will not hinder their being admitted again. By rejecting the gospel, and by their indignation at its being preached to the Gentiles, the Jews were become enemies to…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 26-27The phrase all Israel can be understood in more than one way. It may refer to all believers, both Jews and Gentiles. With this meaning, it describes how God brings salvation to all his people. Another view is that all Israel refers to all Jews who will believe during the Christian era, or to a large number of Jews who turn to Christ in the last days. With this meaning, the word and so has a sequence. After the full number of Gentiles comes to Christ, then…Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 26-2726-27. And so all Israel shall be saved--To understand this great statement, as some still do, merely of such a gradual inbringing of individual Jews, that there shall at length remain none in unbelief, is to do manifest violence both to it and to the whole context. It can only mean the ultimate ingathering of Israel as a nation, in contrast with the present "remnant." (So Tholuck, Meyer, De Wette, Philippi, Alford, Hodge). Three confirmations of this now…Read the comment
