Romans 11:25

Context of Romans 11:25
23If Jewish people do not continue in their unbelief, they will be grafted onto the tree again, because God is able to do that. 24In spite of the fact that you have been cut from a wild olive tree, you have been grafted onto a cultivated one. So wouldn’t it be easier for these natural branches to be grafted onto the olive tree they belong to? Brothers and sisters, I want you to understand this mystery so that you won’t become arrogant. The minds of some Israelites have become closed until all of God’s non-Jewish people are included. 26In this way Israel as a whole will be saved, as Scripture says, “The Savior will come from Zion. He will remove godlessness from Jacob. 27My promise to them will be fulfilled when I take away their sins.”

Commentaries on Romans 11:25
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 25I would not - that ye should be ignorant of this mystery - Mystery, , signifies any thing that is hidden or covered, or not fully made manifest. The Greek word seems to have been borrowed from the Hebrew מסתר mistar, from the root סתר sathar, to hide, conceal, etc.; though some derive it from , to be initiated into sacred rites, from , to shut up. In the New Testament it signifies, generally, any thing or doctrine that has not, in former times, been fully…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 25Ignorant of this mystery - The word “mystery” means properly what is “concealed, hidden, or unknown.” And it especially refers, in the New Testament, to the truths or doctrines which God had reserved to himself, or had not before communicated. It does not mean, as with us often, that there was anything unintelligible or inscrutible in the nature of the doctrine itself, for it was commonly perfectly plain when it was made known. Thus, the doctrine, that…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 22-32Verses 22-32 Of all judgments, spiritual judgments are the sorest; of these the apostle is here speaking. The restoration of the Jews is, in the course of things, far less improbable than the call of the Gentiles to be the children of Abraham; and though others now possess these privileges, it will not hinder their being admitted again. By rejecting the gospel, and by their indignation at its being preached to the Gentiles, the Jews were become enemies to…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 25Paul often uses the word mystery to describe an event at the end of history that God has already decided. This mystery exists in heaven and God reveals it to his people during the Christian era (see 16:25; 1 Corinthians 2:1, 7; 4:1; 15:51; Ephesians 1:9; 3:3, 4, 9; 6:19; Colossians 1:26, 27; 2:2; 4:3; 1 Timothy 3:9, 16). Here, the mystery is the relationship of Jews and Gentiles in the plan of salvation, which is central to this passage (Romans 11:11–32).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 2525. For I would not ... that ye should be ignorant of this mystery--The word "mystery," so often used by our apostle, does not mean (as with us) something incomprehensible, but "something before kept secret, either wholly or for the most part, and now only fully disclosed" (compare Ro 16:25; 1Co 2:7-10; Ep 1:9, 10; 3:3-6, 9, 10). lest ye should be wise in your own conceits--as if ye alone were in all time coming to be the family of God. that…Read the comment
