1AndDavidcameH935toNob,toAhimelechthepriest;andAhimelech trembledatmeeting David,andsaidtohim, Why art thou alone,andno manwiththee?

2AndDavidH1732saidH559toAhimelechH288thepriestH3548,Thekinghascommandedmeabusiness,andhassaidH559tome, LetnomanH376knowanythingofthebusiness whereonIsend thee,andwhatIhavecommandedthee;andIhavedirectedtheyoungmenH376tosuchandsuchaplace.

3Andnowwhatisunder thy hand?givemefive loavesinmyhand,orwhatmaybefound.

4Andthepriest answeredDavidandsaid,ThereisnocommonbreadH3899undermyhandH3027,butthereisholybreadH3899;iftheyoung menhavekeptthemselvesatleastfromwomen.

5AndDavidH1732answeredthepriestH3548andsaidH559tohim,Yesindeed,womenH802havebeenkeptH8104fromusaboutthese threedays,sinceIcameout,andthevesselsoftheyoungH5288menH5288areholyH6944,andthe[breadH3899]isinamannercommon,andthemoreso,becauseto-day [new]ishallowedinthevessels.

6AndthepriestH3548gavehimholyH6944[bread];fortherewasH1961nobreadtherebuttheshew-loavesthatwereH1961takenfrombeforeJehovah,toputonhot breadinthedayH3117whentheywereH1961takenaway.

7(Nowacertain manoftheservantsofSaulwasH1961therethatdayH3117, detainedbeforeJehovah;andhisnamewasH1961Doeg,theEdomite,chiefoftheshepherdsthat[belongedH1961]toSaul.)

8AndDavidsaidtoAhimelech,Andistherenothereunderthy hand spearorsword?forIhaveneither broughtmysword normyweaponswithme,fortheking's businesswasurgent.

9AndthepriestsaidH559,TheswordH2719ofGoliaththePhilistine, whom thou slewestinthevalleyofterebinths,behold,itishereפֹּ֥הpohH6311wrappedinacloth behindtheephod;ifthou wilttakeH3947that,takeH3947it;forthereisnoothersavethathereH6311.AndDavidH1732saidH559,Thereisnonelikethat:giveitme.
