Job Loses His Health

1On anotherH1961 dayH3117 the sonsH1121 of GodH430 cameH935 to present themselvesH3320 beforeH5921 the LORDH3068, and SatanH78541 alsoH1571 cameH935 with themH8432 to present himselfH3320 beforeH5921 Him.

2“WhereH335H2088 have you come fromH935?” saidH559 the LORDH3068 toH413 SatanH7854.

“From roamingH7751 through the earthH776,” he repliedH6030, “and walking back and forthH1980 in it.”

3Then the LORDH3068 saidH559 toH413 SatanH7854, “Have you consideredH7760H3820H413 My servantH5650 JobH347? ForH3588 there is no oneH369 on earthH776 like himH3644, a manH376 who is blamelessH8535 and uprightH3477, who fearsH3373 GodH430 and shunsH5493 evilH7451. He stillH5750 retainsH2388 his integrityH8538, even though you incited MeH5496 against him to ruin himH1104 without causeH2600.”

4“SkinH5785 forH1157 skinH5785!” SatanH7854 repliedH6030H559. “A manH376 will give upH5414 allH3605 he ownsH834 in exchange forH1157 his lifeH5315. 5ButH199 stretch outH7971H4994 Your handH3027 and strikeH5060 his fleshH1320 and bonesH6106H413, and he will surelyH518H3808 curse YouH1288 toH413 Your faceH6440.”

6“Very wellH2005,” saidH559 the LORDH3068H413 to SatanH7854. “He is in your handsH3027, butH389 you must spareH8104 his lifeH5315.”

7So SatanH7854H854 went outH3318 from the presenceH6440 of the LORDH3068 and infectedH5221 JobH347 with terribleH7451 boilsH7822 from the solesH3709 of his feetH7272 toH5704 the crown of his headH6936. 8And Job tookH3947 a piece of broken potteryH2789 to scrapeH1623 himself as heH1931 satH3427 amongH8432 the ashesH665.

9Then Job’s wifeH802 saidH559 to him, “Do you stillH5750 retainH2388 your integrityH8538? CurseH12882 GodH430 and dieH4191!”

10“You speakH1696 as aH259 foolish womanH5036 speaksH1696H1571,” he toldH559 herH413. “Should we acceptH6901 fromH854 GodH430 only goodH2896 and notH3808H6901 adversityH7451?”

In allH3605 thisH2063, JobH347 did notH3808 sinH2398 in what he saidH8193.

Job’s Three Friends

11Now when Job’sH347 threeH7969 friendsH7453—EliphazH464 the TemaniteH8489, BildadH1085 the ShuhiteH7747, and ZopharH6691 the NaamathiteH5284—heardH8085 about allH3605 thisH2063 adversityH7451 that had comeH935 upon himH5921, each of themH376 cameH935 from his homeH4725, and they metH3259 togetherH3162 to goH935 and sympathizeH5110 with Job and comfort himH5162.

12When they lifted upH5375 their eyesH5869 from afarH7350, they could barelyH3808 recognizeH5234 Job. They began to weepH1058 aloudH5375H6963, and each manH376 toreH7167 his robeH4598 and threwH2236 dustH6083 in the airH8064 overH5921 his headH7218. 13Then they satH3427 on the groundH776 with himH854 for sevenH7651 daysH3117 and sevenH7651 nightsH3915, but noH369 one spokeH1696 a wordH1697 to himH413 becauseH3588 they sawH7200 how intenseH3966 his sufferingH3511 wasH1431.
