Abijam Reigns in Judah

(2 Chronicles 13:1–3)

1In the eighteenthH8083H6240 yearH8141 of the reignH4428 of JeroboamH3379 sonH1121 of NebatH5028, AbijamH381 became kingH4427 ofH5921 JudahH3063, 2and he reignedH4427 in JerusalemH3389 threeH7969 yearsH8141. His mother’sH517 nameH8034 was MaacahH4601 daughterH1323 of AbishalomH53.2

3And Abijam walkedH1980 in allH3605 the sinsH2403 that his fatherH1 before himH6440 had committedH6213, and his heartH3824 wasH1961 notH3808 as fully devotedH8003 toH5973 the LORDH3068 his GodH430 as the heartH3824 of DavidH1732 his forefatherH1 had been. 4NeverthelessH3588, for the sakeH4616 of DavidH1732, the LORDH3068 his GodH430 gaveH5414 him a lampH5216 in JerusalemH3389 by raising upH6965 a sonH1121 to succeed himH310 and to makeH5975 Jerusalem strongH3389. 5ForH834 DavidH1732 had doneH6213 what was rightH3477 in the eyesH5869 of the LORDH3068 and had notH3808 turned asideH5493 from anythingH3605 the LORD commandedH6680 allH3605 the daysH3117 of his lifeH2416, exceptH7535 in the matterH1697 of UriahH223 the HittiteH2850.

6And there wasH1961 warH4421 betweenH996 the houses of RehoboamH7346H9963 and JeroboamH3379 allH3605 the daysH3117 of Abijam’s lifeH2416.4

7As for the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of AbijamH38, along with allH3605 his accomplishmentsH834H6213, are theyH1992 notH3808 writtenH3789 inH5921 the BookH5612 of the ChroniclesH1697H3117 of the KingsH4428 of JudahH3063? And there wasH1961 warH4421 betweenH996 AbijamH38H996 and JeroboamH3379.

8And AbijamH38 restedH7901 withH5973 his fathersH1 and was buriedH6912 in the CityH5892 of DavidH1732, and his sonH1121 AsaH609 reignedH4427 in his placeH8478.

Asa Reigns in Judah

(2 Chronicles 14:1–15; 2 Chronicles 15:8–19)

9In the twentiethH6242 yearH8141 of Jeroboam’sH3379 reignH4428 over IsraelH3478, AsaH609 became kingH4427H4428 of JudahH3063, 10and he reignedH4427 in JerusalemH3389 forty-oneH705H259 yearsH8141. His grandmother’sH5175 nameH8034 was MaacahH4601 daughterH1323 of AbishalomH53.

11And AsaH609 didH6213 what was rightH3477 in the eyesH5869 of the LORDH3068, as his fatherH1 DavidH1732 had done. 12He banishedH5674 the male shrine prostitutesH6945 fromH4480 the landH776 and removedH5493 allH3605 the idolsH1544 thatH834 his fathersH1 had madeH6213. 13He alsoH1571 removedH5493 his grandmotherH517 MaacahH4601 from her position as queen motherH1377 becauseH834 she had madeH6213 a detestableH4656 Asherah poleH842. AsaH609 chopped downH3772 the poleH4656 and burnedH8313 it in the KidronH6939 ValleyH5158.

14The high placesH1116 were notH3808 removedH5493, butH7535 Asa’sH609 heartH3824 wasH1961 fully devotedH8003 toH5973 the LORDH3068 allH3605 his daysH3117. 15And he broughtH935 into the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 the silverH3701 and goldH2091 and the articlesH3627 that heH6944 and his fatherH1 had dedicatedH6944.

War between Asa and Baasha

(2 Chronicles 16:1–6)

16Now there wasH1961 warH4421 betweenH996 AsaH609H996 and BaashaH1201 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 throughoutH3605 their daysH3117. 17BaashaH1201 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 went to warH5927 againstH5921 JudahH3063 and fortifiedH1129 RamahH7414 to preventH1115H5414 anyone from leavingH3318 or entering the territory ofH935 AsaH609 kingH4428 of JudahH3063.

18So AsaH609 withdrewH3947 allH3605 the silverH3701 and goldH2091 that remainedH3498 in the treasuriesH214 of the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 andH853 the royalH4428 palaceH1004. He entrusted itH5414H3027 to his servantsH5650 and sent themH7971 with this messageH559 toH413 Ben-hadadH1130 sonH1121 of TabrimmonH2886, the sonH1121 of HezionH2383, the kingH4428 of AramH758, who was rulingH3427 in DamascusH1834: 19“Let there be a treatyH12856 between me and youH996 as there was betweenH996 my fatherH1H996 and your fatherH1. SeeH2009, I have sentH7971 you a giftH7810 of silverH3701 and goldH2091. Now goH1980 and breakH6565 your treatyH1285 withH854 BaashaH1201 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, so that he will withdrawH5927 from meH5921.”

20And Ben-hadadH1130 listenedH8085 toH413 KingH4428 AsaH609 and sentH7971 the commandersH8269 of his armiesH2428 againstH5921 the citiesH5892 of IsraelH3478, conqueringH5221 IjonH5859, DanH1835, Abel-beth-maacahH59H1038, andH5921 the wholeH3605 landH776 of NaphtaliH5321, includingH853 the regionH3605 of ChinnerethH3672.

21WhenH1961 BaashaH1201 learned of thisH8085, he stoppedH2308 fortifyingH1129 RamahH7414 and withdrewH3427 to TirzahH8656. 22Then KingH4428 AsaH609 summonedH8085 allH3605 the men of JudahH3063,7 with noH369 exceptionsH5355, and they carried awayH5375 the stonesH68 of RamahH7414 and the timbersH6086 BaashaH1201 had used for buildingH1129. And with these materials KingH4428 AsaH609 built upH1129 GebaH1387 of BenjaminH1144, as well asH853 MizpahH4709.

Jehoshaphat Succeeds Asa

(2 Chronicles 17:1–19)

23Now the restH3499H3605 of the actsH1697 of AsaH609, along with allH3605 his mightH1369, allH3605 his accomplishmentsH834H6213, and the citiesH5892 he builtH1129, are theyH1992 notH3808 writtenH3789 inH5921 the BookH5612 of the ChroniclesH1697H3117 of the KingsH4428 of JudahH3063? In his old ageH6256H2209, howeverH7535, he became diseasedH2470 in his feetH7272.

24And AsaH609 restedH7901 withH5973 his fathersH1 and was buriedH6912 withH5973 them in the cityH5892 of his fatherH1 DavidH1732, and his sonH1121 JehoshaphatH3092 reignedH4427 in his placeH8478.

Nadab Reigns in Israel

25In the secondH8147 yearH8141 of Asa’sH609 reignH4428 over JudahH3063, NadabH5070 sonH1121 of JeroboamH3379 became kingH4427 ofH5921 IsraelH3478, and he reignedH4427 two yearsH8141. 26And he didH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068 and walkedH1980 in the wayH1870 of his fatherH1 and in his sinH2403, whichH834 he had caused IsraelH3478 to commitH2398.

27Then BaashaH1201 sonH1121 of AhijahH281 of the houseH1004 of IssacharH3485 conspiredH7194 against NadabH5921, and BaashaH1201 struck him downH5221 at GibbethonH1405 of the PhilistinesH6430 while NadabH5070 and allH3605 IsraelH3478 were besiegingH6696H5921 the city. 28In the thirdH7969 yearH8141 of Asa’sH609 reignH4428 over JudahH3063, BaashaH1201 killed NadabH4191 and reignedH4427 in his placeH8478.

29As soon asH1961 Baasha became kingH4427, he struck downH5221 the entireH3605 householdH1004 of JeroboamH3379. He did notH3808 leaveH7604 to JeroboamH3379H5704 anyoneH3605 who breathedH5397, but destroyed them allH8045 according to the wordH1697 thatH834 the LORDH3068 had spokenH1696 throughH3027 His servantH5650 AhijahH281 the ShiloniteH7888, 30becauseH5921 of the sinsH2403 JeroboamH3379 had committedH2398 andH834 had caused IsraelH3478 to commitH2398, and because he had provokedH3707 the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, to angerH3708.

31As for the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of NadabH5070, along with allH3605 his accomplishmentsH834H6213, are theyH1992 notH3808 writtenH3789 inH5921 the BookH5612 of the ChroniclesH1697H3117 of the KingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? 32And there wasH1961 warH4421 betweenH996 AsaH609H996 and BaashaH1201 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 throughoutH3605 their daysH3117.

Baasha Reigns in Israel

33In the thirdH7969 yearH8141 of Asa’sH609 reignH4428 over JudahH3063, BaashaH1201 sonH1121 of AhijahH281 became kingH4427 ofH5921 allH3605 IsraelH3478, and he reigned in TirzahH8656 twenty-fourH6242H702 yearsH8141.

34And Baasha didH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068 and walkedH1980 in the wayH1870 of JeroboamH3379 and in his sinH2403, whichH834 he had caused IsraelH3478 to commitH2398.
