Solomon’s Palace Complex
1SolomonH8010, howeverH853, took thirteenH7969H6240 yearsH8141 to completeH3615 the constructionH1129 of his entireH3605 palaceH1004.
2He builtH1129 the HouseH1004 of the ForestH3293 of LebanonH3844 a hundredH3967 cubitsH520 longH753, fiftyH2572 cubitsH520 wideH7341, and thirtyH7970 cubitsH520 highH6967,1 withH5921 fourH702 rowsH2905 of cedarH730 pillarsH5982 supportingH5921H5982 the cedarH730 beamsH3773.
3The house was roofedH5603 with cedarH730 aboveH4605 the beamsH6763 thatH834 rested onH5921 the pillarsH5982—forty-fiveH705H2568 beams, fifteenH2568H6240 per rowH2905. 4There were threeH7969 rowsH2905 of high windowsH8261 facing one anotherH4237H413 in threeH7969 tiersH6471. 5AllH3605 the doorwaysH66072 had rectangularH7251 framesH8260, withH4136 the openingsH4237 facing one anotherH413H4237 in threeH7969 tiersH6471.
6Solomon madeH6213 his colonnadeH197H5982 fiftyH2572 cubitsH520 longH753 and thirtyH7970 cubitsH520 wideH7341,3 with a porticoH197 in front of itH5921H6440 and a canopyH5646 with pillarsH5982 in front ofH5921 the portico.
7In addition, he builtH6213 a hallH197 for the throneH3678, the HallH197 of JusticeH4941, whereH834 he was to judgeH8199H8033. It was paneledH5603 with cedarH730 from floorH7172 toH5704 ceilingH7172.4
8And the palaceH1004 whereH834 Solomon would liveH3427H8033, set further backH312H2691, wasH1961 of similarH2088 constructionH4639. He also madeH6213 a palaceH1004 like thisH2088 hallH197 for Pharaoh’sH6547 daughterH1323, whomH834 he had marriedH3947.
9AllH3605 theseH428 buildings were constructed with costlyH3368 stonesH68, cutH1496 to sizeH4060 and trimmedH1641 with sawsH4050 insideH1004 and outH2351 from the foundationH4527 toH5704 the eavesH2947, and from the outsideH2351 toH5704 the greatH1419 courtyardH2691. 10The foundationsH3245 were laid with largeH1419H68, costlyH3368H68 stonesH68, some tenH6235 cubitsH520 long5 and someH68 eightH8083 cubitsH520 long.6 11Above theseH4605 were costlyH3368 stonesH68, cutH1496 to sizeH4060, and cedar beamsH730.
12The greatH1419 courtyardH2691 was surrounded byH5439 threeH7969 rowsH2905 of dressed stoneH1496 and a rowH2905 of trimmed cedarH730 beamsH3773, as were the innerH6442 courtyardH2691 and porticoH197 of the house ofH1004 the LORDH3068.
The Pillars and Capitals
(2 Chronicles 3:14–17)
13Now KingH4428 SolomonH8010 sentH7971 to bringH3947 HuramH24387 from TyreH6865. 14HeH1931 was the son ofH1121 a widowH490H802 from the tribeH4294 of NaphtaliH5321, and his fatherH1 was a manH376 of TyreH6876, a craftsmanH2794 in bronzeH5178. Huram had greatH4390 skillH2451, understandingH8394, and knowledgeH1847H6213 for every kindH3605 of bronzeH5178 workH4399. So he cameH935 toH413 KingH4428 SolomonH8010 and carried outH6213 allH3605 his workH4399.
15He castH6696 twoH8147 pillarsH5982 of bronzeH5178, eachH259 eighteenH8083H6240 cubitsH520 highH6967 and twelveH8147H6240 cubitsH520 in circumferenceH2339H5437.8 16He also madeH6213 twoH8147 capitalsH3805 of castH4165 bronzeH5178 to setH5414 onH5921 topH7218 of the pillarsH5982, each capitalH3805 fiveH2568 cubitsH520 highH6967.9 17For the capitalsH3805 onH5921 topH7218 of the pillarsH5982 he madeH4639 a networkH7639 of latticeH7639, with wreathsH1434 ofH4639 chainworkH8333, sevenH7651 forH259 each capitalH3805.10
18Likewise, he madeH6213 the pillarsH5982 with twoH8147 rowsH2905 of pomegranatesH7416 aroundH5439H5921 each gratingH7639 to coverH3680 each capitalH3805 atopH5921H7218 the pillars. 19And the capitalsH3805 atopH5921H7218 the pillarsH5982 in the porticoH197 were shapedH4639 like liliesH7799, fourH702 cubitsH520 high.11 20OnH5921 the capitalsH3805 of bothH8147 pillarsH5982, justH5980 aboveH4605 the rounded projectionH990 next toH5676 the networkH7639, were the two hundredH3967 pomegranatesH7416 in rowsH2905 encirclingH5439H5921 each capitalH3805H8145.
21Thus he set upH6965 the pillarsH5982 at the porticoH197 of the templeH1964. The pillarH5982 to the southH3233 he namedH7121 JachinH3199,12 and the pillarH5982 to the northH8042 he namedH7121 BoazH1162.13 22AndH5921 the topsH7218 of the pillarsH5982 were shapedH4639 like liliesH7799. So the workH4399 of the pillarsH5982 was completedH8552.
The Molten Sea
(2 Chronicles 4:1–5)
23He also madeH6213 the SeaH3220 of cast metalH4165. It was circular in shapeH5696H5439, measuring tenH6235 cubitsH520 from rimH8193 toH5704 rim, fiveH2568 cubitsH520 in heightH6967, and thirtyH7970 cubitsH520 in circumferenceH6961H5437.14 24BelowH8478 the rimH8193, ornamental budsH6497 encircledH5439H5437 itH853, tenH6235 per cubitH520 all the wayH5362 aroundH5439 the SeaH3220, castH3332 in twoH8147 rowsH2905 as a part ofH3333 the Sea.
25The Sea stoodH5975 onH5921 twelveH8147H6240 oxenH1241, threeH7969 facingH6437 northH6828, threeH7969 facingH6437 westH3220, threeH7969 facingH6437 southH5045, and threeH7969 facingH6437 eastH4217. The Sea rested on themH5921H4605, with allH3605 their hindquartersH268 toward the centerH1004. 26It was a handbreadthH2947 thickH5672,15 and its rimH8193 was fashionedH4639 like the brimH8193 of a cupH3563, like a lilyH7799 blossomH6525. It could holdH3557 two thousandH505 bathsH1324.16
The Ten Bronze Stands
27In addition, he madeH6213 tenH6235 movable standsH4350 of bronzeH5178, eachH259 fourH702 cubitsH520 longH753, fourH702 cubitsH520 wideH7341, and threeH7969 cubitsH520 highH6967.17
28ThisH2088 was the designH4639 of the standsH4350: They had side panelsH4526 attachedH996 to uprightsH7948, 29and onH5921 the panelsH4526 betweenH996 the uprightsH7948 were lionsH738, oxenH1241, and cherubimH3742. OnH5921 the uprightsH7948 was a pedestalH3653 aboveH4605, and belowH8478 the lionsH738 and oxenH1241 were wreathsH3914 of beveledH4174 workH4639.
30EachH259 standH4350 had fourH702 bronzeH5178 wheelsH212 with bronzeH5178 axlesH5633 and a basinH3595 resting onH3802 fourH702 supportsH6471H3802, with wreathsH3914 at eachH376 sideH5676. 31The openingH6310 to each stand insideH1004 the crownH3805 at the topH4605 was one cubitH520 deep,18 with a roundH5696 openingH6310 like the designH4639 of a pedestalH3653, a cubitH520 and a halfH2677 wide.19 AndH1571 aroundH5921 its openingH6310 were engravingsH4734, but the panels of the stands wereH4526 squareH7251, notH3808 roundH5696.
32There were fourH702 wheelsH212 underH8478 the panelsH4526, and the axlesH3027 of the wheelsH212 were attached to the standH4350; eachH259 wheelH212 was a cubitH520 and a halfH2677H520 in diameterH6967. 33The wheelsH212 were madeH4639 likeH4639 chariotH4818 wheelsH212; their axlesH3027, rimsH1354, spokesH2839, and hubsH2840 were allH3605 of cast metalH3332.
34EachH259 standH4350 hadH413 fourH702 handlesH3802, one for each cornerH6438, projectingH3802 fromH4480 the standH4350. 35At the topH7218 of each standH4350 was a circularH5696 bandH5439 halfH2677 a cubitH520 highH6967.20 The supportsH3027 and panelsH4526 were cast as a unitH4480 withH5921 the topH7218 of the standH4350.
36He engravedH6605 cherubimH3742, lionsH738, and palm treesH8561 onH5921 the surfacesH3871 of the supportsH3027 andH5921 panelsH4526, wherever eachH376 had spaceH4629, with wreathsH3914 all aroundH5439. 37In this wayH2063 he madeH6213 the tenH6235 standsH4350, eachH3605 with the sameH259 castingH4165H259, dimensionsH4060H259, and shapeH7095.
The Ten Bronze Basins
(2 Chronicles 4:6–8)
38He also madeH6213 tenH6235 bronzeH5178 basinsH3595, eachH259 holdingH3557 fortyH705 bathsH132421 and measuring fourH702 cubits acrossH520, oneH259 basinH3595 for eachH259 of the tenH6235H4350 standsH4350.
39He setH5414 fiveH2568 standsH4350 onH5921 the southH3225 sideH3802 of the templeH1004 and fiveH2568 onH5921 the northH8040, andH853 he putH5414 the SeaH3220 on the southH3233 sideH3802, at the southeast cornerH6924H4136H5045 of the templeH1004.
Completion of the Bronze Works
(2 Chronicles 4:11–18)
40Additionally, HuramH2438 madeH6213 the potsH3595,22 shovelsH3257, and sprinkling bowlsH4219.
So HuramH2438 finishedH3615 allH3605 the workH4399 thatH834 he had undertakenH6213 for KingH4428 SolomonH8010 in the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068:
41the twoH8147 pillarsH5982; the twoH8147 bowl-shapedH1543 capitalsH3805 atopH5921H7218 the pillarsH5982; the twoH8147 sets of networkH7639 coveringH3680 bothH8147 bowlsH1543 of the capitalsH3805 atopH7218 the pillarsH5982; 42the fourH702 hundredH3967 pomegranatesH7416 for the twoH8147 sets of networkH7639 (twoH8147 rowsH2905 of pomegranatesH7416 for eachH259 networkH7639 coveringH3680 bothH8147 the bowl-shapedH1543 capitalsH3805 atopH5921H6440 the pillarsH5982); 43the tenH6235 standsH4350; the tenH6235 basinsH3595 onH5921 the standsH4350; 44the SeaH3220H259; the twelveH8147H6240 oxenH1241 underneathH8478 the SeaH3220; 45andH853 the potsH5518, shovelsH3257, and sprinkling bowlsH4219.
AllH3605 the articlesH3627H168 thatH834 HuramH2438 madeH6213 for KingH4428 SolomonH8010 in the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 were made of burnishedH4803 bronzeH5178. 46The kingH4428 had them castH3332 in clayH4568 moldsH127 in the plainH3603 of the JordanH3383 betweenH996 SuccothH5523H996 and ZarethanH6891.23 47Solomon leftH8010 allH3605 these articlesH3627 unweighedH5117, because there were soH3966 manyH7230. The weightH4948 of the bronzeH5178 could notH3808 be determinedH2713.
Completion of the Gold Furnishings
(2 Chronicles 4:19–22)
48SolomonH8010 also madeH6213 allH3605 the furnishingsH3627 for the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068:
the goldenH2091 altarH4196; the goldenH2091 tableH7979 on whichH834 was placedH5921 the BreadH3899 of the PresenceH6440; 49the lampstandsH4501 of pureH5462 goldH2091 in frontH6440 of the inner sanctuaryH1687, fiveH2568 on the rightH3225 side and fiveH2568 on the leftH8040; the goldH2091 flowersH6525, lampsH5216, and tongsH4457; 50the pureH5462 goldH2091 basinsH5592, wick trimmersH4212, sprinkling bowlsH4219, ladlesH3709, and censersH4289; and the goldH2091 hingesH6596 for the doorsH1817 of the innerH6442 templeH1004 (that is, the Most Holy PlaceH694424) as well as for the doorsH1817 of the main hallH1004 of the templeH1964.
51So allH3605 the workH4399 thatH834 KingH4428 SolomonH8010 had performedH6213 for the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 was completedH7999.
Then SolomonH8010 brought in the itemsH935 his fatherH1 DavidH1732 had dedicatedH6944—the silverH3701, the goldH2091, andH853 the furnishingsH3627—and he placed themH5414 in the treasuriesH214 of the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068.
