22Then the Israelitesאִֽישׁ־ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙'ish- Yis.ra.'ElH376H3478saidוַיֹּאמְר֤וּvai.yo.me.RuH559toאֶל־'el-H413Gideonגִּדְע֔וֹןgid.'onH1439, “Ruleמְשָׁל־me.shol-H4910over us—youאַתָּ֔ה'a.TahH859andגַּם־gam-H1571your sonגַּם־gam-H1121H1571andגַּ֣םgamH1571grandsonH1121—forכִּ֥יkiH3588you have saved usהוֹשַׁעְתָּ֖נוּho.sha'.Ta.nuH3467from the handמִיַּ֥דmi.YadH3027of Midianמִדְיָֽן׃mid.YanH4080.”
23But Gideonגִּדְע֔וֹןgid.'onH1439repliedוַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֲלֵהֶם֙vai.Yo.mer 'a.le.HemH559H413, “Iאֲנִי֙'a.NiH589will notלֹֽא־lo'-H3808ruleאֶמְשֹׁ֤ל'em.SholH4910over you,norוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808willיִמְשֹׁ֥לyim.SholH4910my sonבְּנִ֖יbe.NiH1121.The LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068shall ruleיִמְשֹׁ֥לyim.SholH4910over you.”
24Then heגִּדְע֗וֹןgid.'onH1439addedוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559אֲלֵהֶ֜ם'a.le.HemH413, “Let me make a requestאֶשְׁאֲלָ֤ה שְׁאֵלָ֔ה'esh.'a.Lah she.'e.LahH7592H7596of you,that each of youאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376giveוּתְנוּ־u.te.nu-H5414mean earringנֶ֣זֶםNe.zemH5141from his plunderשְׁלָל֑וֹshe.la.LoH7998.” (Forכִּֽי־ki-H3588the enemieshad goldזָהָב֙za.HavH2091earringsנִזְמֵ֤יniz.MeiH5141becauseכִּ֥יkiH3588theyהֵֽם׃HemH1992were Ishmaelitesיִשְׁמְעֵאלִ֖יםyish.me.'e.LimH3459.)
25“We will give them gladlyH5414,”they repliedוַיֹּאמְר֖וּvai.yo.me.RuH559.So they spread outוַֽיִּפְרְשׂוּ֙vai.yif.re.SuH6566אֶת־'et-H853a garmentהַשִּׂמְלָ֔הha.sim.LahH8071,and each manאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376threwוַיַּשְׁלִ֣יכוּvai.yash.Li.khuH7993an earringנֶ֥זֶםNe.zemH5141from his plunderשְׁלָלֽוֹ׃she.la.LoH7998onto itשָׁ֔מָּהSha.mahH8033.

27From all thisGideonגִדְע֜וֹןgid.'onH1439madeוַיַּעַשׂ֩vai.ya.'AsH6213אוֹת֨וֹ'o.ToH853an ephodלְאֵפ֗וֹדle.'e.FodH646,which he placedוַיַּצֵּ֨גvai.ya.TzegH3322אוֹת֤וֹ'o.ToH853in Ophrahבְּעָפְרָ֔הbe.'a.fe.RahH6084,his hometownבְעִירוֹ֙ve.'i.RoH5892.But soon allכָֽל־khol-H3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֛לYis.ra.'ElH3478prostituted themselvesוַיִּזְנ֧וּvai.yiz.NuH2181by worshiping itאַחֲרָ֖יו'a.cha.RavH310thereשָׁ֑םShamH8033,and it becameוַיְהִ֛יvay.HiH1961a snareלְמוֹקֵֽשׁ׃le.mo.KeshH4170to Gideonלְגִדְע֥וֹןle.gid.'onH1439and his householdוּלְבֵית֖וֹu.le.vei.ToH1004.
