Hosea 13

American Standard Version

1When EphraimH669 spake, there was trembling; he exalted himself in IsraelH3478; but when he offended in BaalH1168, he diedH4191. 2And nowH6258 they sinH2398 more and more, and have madeH6213 them molten images of their silverH3701, even idolsH6091 according to their own understandingH8394, all of them the workH4639 of the craftsmenH2796: they sayH559 of them, Let the menH120 that sacrificeH2076 kiss the calvesH5695. 3ThereforeH3651 they shall beH1961 as the morningH1242 cloudH6051, and as the dewH2919 that passeth earlyH7925 away, as the chaffH4671 that is driven with the whirlwind out of the threshing-floor, and as the smokeH6227 out of the chimney.

4Yet I am Jehovah thy GodH430 from the landH776 of EgyptH4714; and thou shalt knowH3045 no godH430 but me, and besides me there is no saviour. 5I did knowH3045 thee in the wildernessH4057, in the landH776 of great drought. 6According to their pastureH4830, soH3651 were they filled; they were filled, and their heartH3820 was exaltedH7311: thereforeH3651 have they forgottenH7911 me. 7Therefore amH1961 I unto them as a lionH7826; as a leopardH5246 will I watchH7789 by the wayH1870; 8I will meetH6298 them as a bearH1677 that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heartH3820; and there will I devourH398 them like a lionessH3833; the wild beast shall tearH7167 them.

9It is thy destruction, O IsraelH3478, that thou art against me, against thy helpH5828. 10WhereH834 now is thy kingH4428, that he may saveH3467 thee in all thy citiesH5892? and thy judgesH8199, of whom thou saidst, GiveH5414 me a kingH4428 and princesH8269? 11I have givenH5414 thee a kingH4428 in mine angerH639, and have takenH3947 him awayH3947 in my wrathH5678. 12The iniquityH5771 of EphraimH669 is bound up; his sinH2403 is laid up in store. 13The sorrows of a travailing woman shall comeH935 upon him: he is an unwise sonH1121; for it is timeH6256 he should not tarry in the place of the breaking forthH3205 of children. 14I will ransomH6299 them from the power of SheolH7585; I will redeemH6299 them from deathH4194: O deathH4194, whereH165 are thy plagues? O SheolH7585, whereH165 is thy destruction? repentance shall be hidH5641 from mine eyesH5869.

15Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an eastH6921 windH7307 shall comeH935, the breathH7307 of Jehovah comingH935 up from the wildernessH4057; and his springH4599 shall become dry, and his fountainH4726 shall be dried up: he shall make spoil of the treasureH214 of all goodly vesselsH3627. 16Samaria shall bear her guilt; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword; their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.
