Deuteronomy 19
Revised Version 1895
1When the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 shall cutH3772 offH3772 the nationsH1471, whoseH834 landH776 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 giveth thee, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their citiesH5892, and in their housesH1004; 2thou shalt separateH914 threeH7969 citiesH5892 for thee in the midstH8432 of thy landH776, whichH834 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 giveth thee to possessH3423 it. 3Thou shalt prepareH3559 thee the wayH1870, and divideH5157 the bordersH1366 of thy landH776, whichH834 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 causeth thee to inheritH5157, intoH776 threeH8027 partsH8027, that everyH3605 manslayerH7523 may fleeH5127 thither. 4And this is the caseH1697 of the manslayerH7523, whichH834 shall fleeH5127 thither and live: whoso killeth his neighbour unawares, and hatedH8130 him notH3808 in time pastH8543; 5as when a manH4191 goeth intoH413 the forestH3293 with his neighbour to hew woodH6086, and his handH3027 fetcheth a stroke with the axeH1631 to cutH3772 downH3772 the treeH6086, and the headH1270 slippeth from the helve, and lighteth uponH935 his neighbour, that he dieH4191; he shall fleeH5127 unto one of theseH428 citiesH5892 and live: 6lestH6435 the avengerH1350 of bloodH1818 pursueH7291 the manslayerH7523, whileH1931 his heartH3824 is hot, and overtakeH5381 him, becauseH3588 the wayH1870 is longH5315, and smiteH5221 him mortally; whereas he was notH3808 worthyH4941 of deathH4194, inasmuch as he hatedH8130 him notH3808 in time pastH8543. 7Wherefore I commandH6680 thee, sayingH559, Thou shalt separateH914 threeH7969 citiesH5892 for thee. 8And ifH518 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 enlargeH7337 thy borderH1366, as he hath swornH7650 unto thy fathersH1, and giveH5414 thee allH3605 the landH776 whichH834 he promisedH1696 to giveH5414 unto thy fathersH1; 9ifH3588 thou shalt keepH8104 allH3605 this commandmentH4687 to doH6213 it, whichH834 I commandH6680 thee this dayH3117, to loveH157 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430, and to walkH1870 everH5750 in his waysH1870; then shalt thou addH3254 threeH7969 citiesH5892 moreH5750 for thee, besideH5921 theseH428 threeH7969: 10that innocentH5355 bloodH1818 be notH3808 shedH8210 in the midstH7130 of thy landH776, whichH834 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 giveth thee for an inheritanceH5159, and soH1961 bloodH1818 be uponH5921 thee. 11But ifH3588 anyH376 manH376 hateH8130 his neighbour, and lieH693 in waitH693 for him, and riseH6965 upH6965 againstH5921 him, and smiteH5221 him mortallyH4191 that he dieH4191; and he fleeH5127 intoH413 one of theseH411 citiesH5892: 12then the eldersH2205 of his cityH5892 shall sendH7971 and fetch him thence, and deliverH5414 him intoH3027 the handH3027 of the avengerH1350 of bloodH1818, that he may dieH4191. 13Thine eyeH5869 shall notH3808 pityH2347 him, but thou shalt put away the innocentH5355 bloodH1818 from IsraelH3478, that it may go wellH2896 with thee. 14Thou shalt notH3808 remove thy neighbour’s landmark, whichH834 they of oldH7223 time have setH5414, in thine inheritanceH5159 whichH834 thou shalt inheritH5157, in the landH776 that the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 giveth thee to possessH3423 it. 15One witnessH5707 shall notH3808 riseH6965 upH6965 againstH5921 a manH376 for anyH3605 iniquityH5771, or for anyH3605 sinH2398, in anyH3605 sinH2398 that he sinneth: at the mouthH6310 of twoH8147 witnessesH5707, or at the mouthH6310 of threeH7969 witnessesH5707, shall a matterH1697 be establishedH6965. 16IfH3588 an unrighteous witnessH5707 riseH6965 upH6965 againstH376 anyH376 manH376 to testifyH6030 againstH376 him of wrong-doing; 17then bothH8147 the menH376, between whomH834 the controversyH7379 is, shall standH5975 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, beforeH6440 the priestsH3548 and the judgesH8199 whichH834 shall be in thoseH834 daysH3117; 18and the judgesH8199 shall makeH3190 diligent inquisition: and, beholdH2009, ifH2009 the witnessH5707 be a falseH8267 witnessH5707, and hath testified falselyH8267 against his brotherH251; 19then shall ye doH6213 unto him, as he had thoughtH7130 to doH6213 unto his brotherH251: soH6213 shalt thou put awayH7451 the evilH7451 from the midstH7130 of thee. 20And thoseH2088 whichH2088 remainH7604 shall hearH8085, and fearH3372, and shall henceforth commit noH3808 moreH5750 anyH5750 suchH2088 evilH7451 in the midstH7130 of thee. 21And thine eyeH5869 shall notH3808 pityH2347; lifeH5315 shall go for lifeH5315, eyeH5869 for eyeH5869, toothH8127 for toothH8127, handH3027 for handH3027, footH7272 for footH7272.
