Deuteronomy 29

Revised Version 1895

1TheseH3605 are the words of the covenant whichH834 the LORDH3068 commandedH559 MosesH4872 to makeH6213 with the children of IsraelH3478 in the landH776 of Moab, besideH413 the covenant whichH834 he madeH6213 with them in Horeb. 2And Moses called unto allH1419 Israel, and said unto them, Ye have seenH7200 allH1419 that the LORD didH834 beforeH5869 your eyesH5869 in the land of Egypt unto Pharaoh, and unto allH1419 his servants, and unto allH1419 his land; 3the great temptations whichH5869 thine eyesH5869 sawH7200, the signs, and thoseH2088 great wonders: 4but the LORD hath notH3808 given youH5921 an heart to know, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day. 5And I have led youH3588 forty years in the wilderness: your clothes are notH3808 waxen old upon youH3588, and thy shoe is notH3808 waxen old upon thy foot. 6Ye have notH2088 eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong drink: that ye might know that I am the LORD your GodH413. 7And when ye came unto this placeH5414, Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came outH853 against usH5414 unto battle, and weH776 smote them: 8and weH834 tookH853 their land, and gaveH6213 it for an inheritance unto the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half tribe of the Manassites. 9Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and doH3605 them, that ye may prosper in allH3605 that ye doH3605. 10Ye stand this day allH5704 of youH834 beforeH5704 the LORD your God; your heads, your tribes, your elders, and your officers, evenH5704 allH5704 the menH4264 of Israel, 11your little ones, your wives, and thy stranger that is in the midst of thy camps, from the hewer of thy wood unto the drawer of thy water: 12that thou shouldest enter intoH1961 the covenantH7650 of the LORD thy GodH430, and intoH1961 his oathH7650, whichH834 the LORD thy GodH430 maketh with thee this dayH3117: 13that he may establish thee this day unto himselfH905 for a peopleH3808, and that he may be unto thee a GodH3808, as he spake unto thee, and as he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. 14NeitherH369 with youH834 only doH369 I makeH3588 this covenant and this oath; 15but with him that standeth here with usH3045 this day beforeH3045 the LORD our God, and also with him that is notH3588 here with usH3045 this day: 16(for ye know howH834 weH834 dwelt in the land of Egypt; and howH834 weH834 came throughH7200 the midst of the nations throughH7200 whichH834 ye passed; 17and ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stoneH834, silver and gold, whichH834 were among them:) 18lest there should be among youH3588 manH6771, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heartH3820 turneth awayH5595 this day from the LORD our GodH559, to goH1961 to serveH1961 the gods of thoseH853 nations; lest there should be among youH3588 a root that beareth gall and wormwood; 19and it comeH7068 to pass, when he heareth the words of this curseH423, that he bless himselfH1931 in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, thoughH3588 I walk in the stubbornness of mineH8478 heart, to destroyH3605 the moist with the dry: 20the LORDH3068 will notH2088 pardon him, but then the anger of the LORDH3068 and his jealousy shall smoke againstH3605 that manH3605, and allH3605 the curseH423 that is writtenH3789 in this bookH5612 shall lie upon him, and the LORDH3068 shall blot outH3605 his name from under heaven. 21And the LORDH3068 shall separate him unto evil outH7200 of allH1755 the tribes of Israel, accordingH310 to allH1755 the curses of the covenant that is written in this book of the law. 22And the generation to comeH5927, your children that shall riseH5927 upH5927 afterH776 youH834, and the foreigner that shall comeH5927 from a farH3605 landH776, shall say, when they seeH834 the plagues of that landH776, and the sicknesses wherewith the LORDH3068 hath madeH3605 it sick; 23and that the wholeH3605 landH776 thereof is brimstone, and salt, and a burning, that it is notH2088 sown, nor beareth, nor anyH3605 grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, whichH1471 the LORDH3068 overthrew in his angerH639, and in his wrathH639: 24evenH853 all the nationsH776 shall sayH559, Wherefore hath the LORDH3068 done thus unto this landH776? whatH834 meaneth the heat of this greatH430 anger? 25Then men shall say, BecauseH834 they forsook the covenant of the LORD, the GodH430 of their fathers, whichH834 he madeH3045 with them when he brought them forthH3045 outH3045 of the land of Egypt; 26and wentH935 and served otherH2088 gods, and worshipped them, gods whom they knew notH2088, and whom he had notH2088 given unto them: 27therefore the angerH639 of the LORDH3068 was kindled againstH5921 this landH776, to bring uponH5921 it allH3117 the curse that is written in this book: 28and the LORDH3068 rooted them outH3605 of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in greatH430 indignation, and cast them intoH1540 another land, as at this day. 29The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but the things that are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
