2 Samuel 4

Ish-bosheth Murdered

1Now when 1Ish-bosheth, Saul’sH7586 sonH1121, heardH8085 that 2AbnerH74 had diedH4191 in HebronH2275, 34his courageH3027 failedH7503, and allH3605 IsraelH3478 was horrifiedH926. 2And Saul’sH7586 sonH1121 hadH1961 twoH8147 menH376 who were commandersH8269 of troopsH1416: the nameH8034 of the oneH259 was BaanahH1196, and the nameH8034 of the otherH8145 RechabH7394, sonsH1121 of RimmonH7417 the BeerothiteH886, of the sonsH1121 of BenjaminH1144 (for 5BeerothH881 is alsoH1571 consideredH2803 6part of BenjaminH1144, 3and the BeerothitesH886 fledH1272 to 7GittaimH1664 and have livedH1961 thereH8033 as strangersH1481 untilH5704 thisH2088 dayH3117).

4Now 8JonathanH3083, Saul’sH7586 sonH1121, had a sonH1121 who was disabledH5223 in both feetH7272. He was fiveH2568 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when the 9newsH8052 of SaulH7586 and JonathanH3083 cameH935 from JezreelH3157, and his nurseH539 pickedH5375 him upH5375 and fledH5127. But it happenedH1961 that in her hurryH2648 to fleeH5127, he fellH5307 and couldH6452 noH6452 longerH6452 walkH6452. And his nameH8034 was 1011MephiboshethH4648.

5So the sonsH1121 of RimmonH7417 the BeerothiteH886, RechabH7394 and BaanahH1196, departedH1980 and cameH935 to the houseH1004 of 12Ish-boshethH378 in the heatH2527 of the dayH3117, while he was takingH7901 his middayH6672 restH4904. 613And they cameH935 to the interiorH8432 of the houseH1004 as if 14to getH3947 wheatH2406, and 15they struckH5221 him in the bellyH2570; and RechabH7394 and his brotherH251 BaanahH1196 escapedH4422. 7Now when they had comeH935 into the houseH1004, as he was lyingH7901 on his bedH4296 in his bedroomH2315H4904, they struckH5221 him and killedH4191 him, and they beheadedH5493H7218 him. And they tookH3947 his headH7218 and 1617traveledH1980 by wayH1870 of the ArabahH6160 allH3605 nightH3915. 8Then they broughtH935 the headH7218 of Ish-boshethH378 to DavidH1732 at HebronH2275, and saidH559 to the kingH4428, “BeholdH2009, the headH7218 of Ish-boshethH378 18the sonH1121 of SaulH7586, your enemyH340, whoH834 soughtH1245 your lifeH5315; so the LordH3068 has givenH5414 my lordH113 the kingH4428 vengeanceH5360 thisH2088 dayH3117 on SaulH7586 and his 19descendantsH2233.”

9But DavidH1732 repliedH6030 to RechabH7394 and his brotherH251 BaanahH1196, sonsH1121 of RimmonH7417 the BeerothiteH886, and saidH559 to them, “As the LordH3068 livesH2416, 20whoH834 has redeemedH6299 my lifeH5315 from allH3605 distressH6869, 1021whenH3588 the one who informedH5046 me, sayingH559, ‘BeholdH2009, SaulH7586 is deadH4191,’ also 22viewedH5869 himselfH1931 as the bearerH1319 ofH1319 goodH1319 newsH1319, I seizedH270 him and killedH2026 him in ZiklagH6860, whichH834 was the rewardH1309 I gaveH5414 him forH1309 his newsH1309. 11HowH637 muchH637H3588 moreH637H3588, whenH3588 wickedH7563 menH376 have killedH2026 a righteousH6662 manH376 in his own houseH1004 on his bedH4904, shall I not nowH6258 23requireH1245 his bloodH1818 from your handsH3027 and eliminateH1197 you both from the earthH776?” 12Then 24DavidH1732 commandedH6680 the youngH5288 menH5288, and they killedH2026 them and cutH7112 offH7112 their handsH3027 and feetH7272, and hungH8518 them upH8518 besideH5921 the poolH1295 in HebronH2275. But they tookH3947 the headH7218 of Ish-boshethH378 25and buriedH6912 it in the graveH6913 of AbnerH74 in HebronH2275.
