1 Kings 11:1-13
1Now 1KingH4428 SolomonH8010 lovedH157 manyH7227 foreignH5237 womenH802 along with the daughterH1323 of PharaohH6547: MoabiteH4125, AmmoniteH5984, EdomiteH130, SidonianH6722, and HittiteH2850 womenH802, 2from the nationsH1471 of whichH834 the LordH3068 had saidH559 to the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478, “2You shall not 3associateH935 with them, norH3808 shall they 4associateH935 with you; they will certainlyH403 turnH5186 your heartH3824 awayH5186 5to followH310 their godsH430.” SolomonH8010 clungH1692 to theseH1992 in loveH157. 36He hadH1961 sevenH7651 hundredH3967 wivesH802, who were 7princessesH8282, and threeH7969 hundredH3967 concubinesH6370; and his wivesH802 turnedH5186 his heartH3820 awayH5186. 4For whenH6256 SolomonH8010 was oldH2209, his wivesH802 turnedH5186 his heartH3824 awayH5186 8to followH310 otherH312 godsH430; and 9his heartH3824 was not 10whollyH8003 devotedH8003 to the LordH3068 his GodH430, as the heartH3824 of his fatherH1 DavidH1732 had been. 5For SolomonH8010 becameH1980 a followerH1980H310 of 11AshtorethH6252 the goddessH430 of the SidoniansH6722, and of 1213MilcomH4445 the abhorrentH8251 idolH8251 of the AmmonitesH5984. 6So SolomonH8010 didH6213 whatH7451 wasH7451 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LordH3068, and did not followH310 the LordH3068 fullyH4390, as his fatherH1 DavidH1732 had done. 7ThenH227 SolomonH8010 builtH1129 a highH1116 placeH1116 for 14ChemoshH3645, the abhorrentH8251 idolH8251 of MoabH4124, on the mountainH2022 that is 15eastH5921H6440 of JerusalemH3389, and for 16MolechH4432, the abhorrentH8251 idolH8251 of the sonsH1121 of AmmonH5983. 8He also didH6213 the sameH3651 for allH3605 his foreignH5237 wivesH802, who burnedH6999 incenseH6999 and sacrificedH2076 to their godsH430.
9Now 17the LordH3068 was angryH599 with SolomonH8010 18becauseH3588 his heartH3824 had turnedH5186 awayH5186 from the LordH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, 19who had appearedH7200 to him twiceH6471, 10and 20had commandedH6680 him regardingH5921 thisH2088 thingH1697, that he was not to followH1980H310 otherH312 godsH430; but he did not complyH8104 withH8104 whatH834 the LordH3068 had commandedH6680. 11So the LordH3068 saidH559 to SolomonH8010, “SinceH3282H834 21you have doneH1961H5973 thisH2088, and you have not keptH8104 My covenantH1285 and My statutesH2708, whichH834 I have commandedH6680 you, 22I will certainlyH7167 tearH7167 the kingdomH4467 awayH7167 from you, and will giveH5414 it to your servantH5650. 12HoweverH389, I will not doH6213 it in your daysH3117, only for the sakeH4616 of your fatherH1 DavidH1732; but I will tearH7167 it awayH7167 from the handH3027 of your sonH1121. 13YetH7534 23I will not tearH7167 awayH7167 allH3605 the kingdomH4467, but 24I will giveH5414 oneH259 tribeH7626 to your sonH1121 for the sakeH4616 of My servantH5650 DavidH1732, and 25for the sakeH4616 of JerusalemH3389, whichH834 I have chosenH977.”
