1 Kings 1:5-25
5Now 1AdonijahH138 the sonH1121 of HaggithH2294 exaltedH5375 himself, sayingH559, “I will beH4427 kingH4427.” So 2he preparedH6213 for himself chariotsH7393 and horsemenH6571, with fiftyH2572 menH376 to runH7323 beforeH6440 him. 6And his fatherH1 had neverH3808 rebukedH6087 him at anyH4480 timeH3117 by askingH559, “WhyH4069 have you doneH6213 soH3602?” And he was alsoH1571 a veryH3966 handsomeH2896H8389 man, and 34he was bornH3205 afterH310 AbsalomH53. 7Now 5he had conferredH1697H1961 with 6JoabH3097 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870 and with 7AbiatharH54 the priestH3548; and they alliedH5826H310 themselves with 8AdonijahH138. 8But 9ZadokH6659 the priestH3548, 10BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077, 11NathanH5416 the prophetH5030, 12ShimeiH8096, ReiH7472, and 13the mightyH1368 menH1368 whoH834 belonged to DavidH1732, were not with AdonijahH138.
9AdonijahH138 sacrificedH2076 sheepH6629, oxenH1241, and fattenedH4806 steersH4806 by the 14stoneH68 of ZohelethH2120, whichH834 is besideH681 15En-rogelH5883; and he invitedH7121 allH3605 his brothersH251, the king’sH4428 sonsH1121, and allH3605 the menH376 of JudahH3063, the king’sH4428 servantsH5650. 10But he did not inviteH7121 NathanH5416 the prophetH5030, BenaiahH1141, the mightyH1368 menH1368, or his brotherH251 16SolomonH8010.
11Then NathanH5416 spokeH559 to 17BathshebaH1339 the motherH517 of SolomonH8010, sayingH559, “Have you not heardH8085 that AdonijahH138 the sonH1121 of HaggithH2294 has becomeH4427 kingH4427, and DavidH1732 our lordH113 does not knowH3045 it? 12So nowH6258 comeH1980, pleaseH4994 let me 18giveH3289 you adviceH6098, and saveH4422 your lifeH5315 and the lifeH5315 of your sonH1121 SolomonH8010. 13GoH1980 19at onceH935 to KingH4428 DavidH1732 and sayH559 to him, ‘Have you not, my lordH113 the kingH4428, swornH7650 to your servantH519, sayingH559, “20SolomonH8010 your sonH1121 certainlyH3588 shall beH4427 kingH4427 afterH310 me, and he shall sitH3427 on my throneH3678”? WhyH4069 then has AdonijahH138 becomeH4427 kingH4427?’ 14BeholdH2009, while you are stillH5750 thereH8033 speakingH1696 with the kingH4428, I will comeH935 inH935 afterH310 you and confirmH4390 your wordsH1697.”
15So BathshebaH1339 enteredH935 to the kingH4428 in the bedroomH2315. Now 21the kingH4428 wasH2204 veryH3966 oldH2204, and AbishagH49 the ShunammiteH7767 was servingH8334 the kingH4428. 16Then BathshebaH1339 bowedH6915 and prostratedH2331 herself 22before the kingH4428. And the kingH4428 saidH559, “WhatH4100 23is on your mind?” 17So she saidH559 to him, “My lordH113, you yourselfH859 sworeH7650 to your servantH519 by the LordH3068 your GodH430, saying, ‘24Your sonH1121 SolomonH8010 certainlyH3588 shall beH4427 kingH4427 afterH310 me, and he shall sitH3427 on my throneH3678.’ 18But nowH6258, beholdH2009, AdonijahH138 isH4427 kingH4427; and nowH6258, my lordH113 the kingH4428, you do not knowH3045 it. 1925He has sacrificedH2076 oxenH7794 and fattenedH4806 steersH4806 and sheepH6629 in abundanceH7230, and has invitedH7121 allH3605 the sonsH1121 of the kingH4428, AbiatharH54 the priestH3548, and JoabH3097 the commanderH8269 of the armyH6635, but he has not invitedH7121 SolomonH8010 your servantH5650. 20And as for you, my lordH113 the kingH4428, the eyesH5869 of allH3605 IsraelH3478 are upon you, to announceH5046 to them whoH4310 shall sitH3427 on the throneH3678 of my lordH113 the kingH4428 afterH310 him. 21Otherwise it will comeH1961 aboutH1961, 26as soon as my lordH113 the kingH4428 27liesH7901 downH7901 with his fathersH1, that I and my sonH1121 SolomonH8010 will be considered 28offendersH2400.”
22And beholdH2009, while she was stillH5750 speakingH1696 with the kingH4428, NathanH5416 the prophetH5030 cameH935 inH935. 23They informedH5046 the kingH4428, sayingH559, “NathanH5416 the prophetH5030 is hereH2009.” And when he cameH935 into the king’s presenceH6440, he prostratedH2331 himself 29before the kingH4428 with his faceH639 to the groundH776. 24Then NathanH5416 saidH559, “My lordH113 the kingH4428, have you yourselfH859 saidH559, ‘AdonijahH138 shall beH4427 kingH4427 afterH310 me, and he shall sitH3427 on my throneH3678’? 2530For he has goneH3381 downH3381 todayH3117 and has sacrificedH2076 oxenH7794 and fattenedH4806 steersH4806 and sheepH6629 in abundanceH7230, and has invitedH7121 allH3605 the king’sH4428 sonsH1121, the commandersH8269 of the armyH6635, and AbiatharH54 the priestH3548, and beholdH2009, they are eatingH398 and drinkingH8354 in his presenceH6440; and they sayH559, ‘31Long liveH2421 KingH4428 AdonijahH138!’
