Context of Song of Songs 4:8
6I will go to the mountain of myrrh and the hill of frankincense. I will stay among them until the dawn comes and the shadows go away. 7You are completely beautiful, my dear friend. Your body is perfect in every way. Come with me from Lebanon, my bride. Yes, come with me from Lebanon. Come down from the top of Amana, from the top of Senir. Come down from the highest part of Hermon. Come away from those mountains where lions live, and where there are leopards. 9I love you so much that I never want to leave you, my sister and my bride. When you looked at me only once and I saw one jewel in your necklace, I knew that I could never leave you. 10Your love for me is wonderful, my sister and my bride. I enjoy your love even more than I enjoy wine. Your perfume has a smell that is more lovely than any spice!

Commentaries on Song of Songs 4:8
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 8My spouse - The כלה callah which we translate spouse, seems to have a peculiar meaning. Mr. Harmer thinks the Jewish princess is intended by it; and this seems to receive confirmation from the bridegroom calling her sister, Song of Solomon 4:9, that is, one of the same stock and country; and thus different from the Egyptian bride. Mr. Harmer's opinion is very probable, that Two Queens are mentioned in this song: one Pharaoh's daughter, the other a Jewess…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 8-15Verses 8-15 Observe the gracious call Christ gives to the church. It is, 1. A precept; so this is Christ's call to his church to come off from the world. These hills seem pleasant, but there are in them lions' dens; they are mountains of the leopards. 2. As a promise; many shall be brought as members of the church, from every point. The church shall be delivered from her persecutors in due time, though now she dwells among lions, Ps. 57:4. Christ's heart…Read the comment
