Context of Song of Songs 4:8
6Until the day cools and the shadows flee away, I will go to the mountain of myrrh and to the hill of frankincense. 7You are altogether lovely, my darling, and no blemish is in you. Come with me from Lebanon, my bride, come with me from Lebanon. Watch from the top of Amana, from the top of Senir, even Hermon, from lions’ dens, from mountains of leopards. 9You have captivated my heart, my sister, my bride— you captivated me with one of your eyes, with one jewel from your necklace. 10How delightful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much better is your love than wine, and the fragrance of your oils better than all spices!

Commentaries on Song of Songs 4:8
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 8My spouse - The כלה callah which we translate spouse, seems to have a peculiar meaning. Mr. Harmer thinks the Jewish princess is intended by it; and this seems to receive confirmation from the bridegroom calling her sister, Song of Solomon 4:9, that is, one of the same stock and country; and thus different from the Egyptian bride. Mr. Harmer's opinion is very probable, that Two Queens are mentioned in this song: one Pharaoh's daughter, the other a Jewess…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 8-15Verses 8-15 Observe the gracious call Christ gives to the church. It is, 1. A precept; so this is Christ's call to his church to come off from the world. These hills seem pleasant, but there are in them lions' dens; they are mountains of the leopards. 2. As a promise; many shall be brought as members of the church, from every point. The church shall be delivered from her persecutors in due time, though now she dwells among lions, Ps. 57:4. Christ's heart…Read the comment
