Romans 6:2-23

212Far from it! How shall we who 3died to sin still live in it? 3Or do you not know that all of us who have been 4baptized into 5Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? 4Therefore we have been 6buried with Him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was 7raised from the dead through the 8glory of the Father, so we too may walk in 9newness of life. 5For 10if we have become 11united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be 12in the likeness of His resurrection, 6knowing this, that our 13old 14self was 15crucified with Him, in order that our 16body of sin might be 17done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; 7for 18the one who has died is 19freed from sin.

8Now 20if we have died with Christ, we believe that 21we shall also live with Him, 9knowing that Christ, having been 22raised from the dead, 23is never to die again; 24death no longer is master over Him. 10For 25the death that He died, He died to sin once for all time; but 26the life that He lives, He lives to 27God. 11So you too, consider yourselves to be 28dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

12Therefore sin is not to 29reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, 13and do not go on 30presenting 31the parts of your body to sin as 32instruments of unrighteousness; but 33present yourselves to God as those who are alive from the dead, and 34your body’s parts as 35instruments of righteousness for God. 14For 36sin shall not 37be master over you, for 38you are not under 39the Law but 40under grace.

15What then? 41Are we to sin because we are not under 42the Law but under grace? 4344Far from it! 16Do you not 45know that the one to whom you present yourselves as 46slaves for obedience, you are slaves of that same one whom you obey, either of 47sin 48resulting in death, or of obedience 49resulting in righteousness? 17But 50thanks be to God that 51though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that 5253form of teaching to which you were entrusted, 18and after being 54freed from sin, you became slaves to righteousness. 1955I am speaking 56in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just 57as you presented 58the parts of your body as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, 59resulting in further lawlessness, so now present 60your body’s parts as slaves to righteousness, 61resulting in sanctification.

20For 62when you were slaves of sin, you were free in relation to righteousness. 21Therefore what 6364benefit were you then 65deriving from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the outcome of those things is 66death. 22But now having been 67freed from sin and 68enslaved to God, you 69derive your 7071benefit, 72resulting in sanctification, and 73the outcome, eternal life. 23For the wages of 74sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is 75eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
