Romans 6
Believers Are Dead to Sin, Alive to God
11What shall we say then? Are we to 2continue in sin so that grace may increase? 234Far from it! How shall we who 5died to sin still live in it? 3Or do you not know that all of us who have been 6baptized into 7Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? 4Therefore we have been 8buried with Him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was 9raised from the dead through the 10glory of the Father, so we too may walk in 11newness of life. 5For 12if we have become 13united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be 14in the likeness of His resurrection, 6knowing this, that our 15old 16self was 17crucified with Him, in order that our 18body of sin might be 19done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; 7for 20the one who has died is 21freed from sin.
8Now 22if we have died with Christ, we believe that 23we shall also live with Him, 9knowing that Christ, having been 24raised from the dead, 25is never to die again; 26death no longer is master over Him. 10For 27the death that He died, He died to sin once for all time; but 28the life that He lives, He lives to 29God. 11So you too, consider yourselves to be 30dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
12Therefore sin is not to 31reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, 13and do not go on 32presenting 33the parts of your body to sin as 34instruments of unrighteousness; but 35present yourselves to God as those who are alive from the dead, and 36your body’s parts as 37instruments of righteousness for God. 14For 38sin shall not 39be master over you, for 40you are not under 41the Law but 42under grace.
15What then? 43Are we to sin because we are not under 44the Law but under grace? 4546Far from it! 16Do you not 47know that the one to whom you present yourselves as 48slaves for obedience, you are slaves of that same one whom you obey, either of 49sin 50resulting in death, or of obedience 51resulting in righteousness? 17But 52thanks be to God that 53though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that 5455form of teaching to which you were entrusted, 18and after being 56freed from sin, you became slaves to righteousness. 1957I am speaking 58in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just 59as you presented 60the parts of your body as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, 61resulting in further lawlessness, so now present 62your body’s parts as slaves to righteousness, 63resulting in sanctification.
20For 64when you were slaves of sin, you were free in relation to righteousness. 21Therefore what 6566benefit were you then 67deriving from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the outcome of those things is 68death. 22But now having been 69freed from sin and 70enslaved to God, you 71derive your 7273benefit, 74resulting in sanctification, and 75the outcome, eternal life. 23For the wages of 76sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is 77eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
