Job’s Confession

1Then Jobאִיּ֥וֹב'i.YovH347answeredוַיַּ֖עַןvai.Ya.'anH6030the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068and saidוַיֹּאמַֽר׃vai.yo.MarH559,

2“I knowיָ֭דַעְתִּיya.da'.taH3045thatYou canתּוּכָ֑לtu.KhalH3201doallH3605thingsH3605,And that noוְלֹא־ve.lo'-H3808planמְזִמָּֽה׃me.zi.MahH4209isH1219impossibleH1219for You.

3‘Whoמִ֤יmiH4310is thisזֶ֨ה׀zehH2088whoconcealsמַעְלִ֥יםma'.LimH5956adviceעֵצָ֗ה'e.TzahH6098withoutבְּֽלִ֫יbe.LiH1097knowledgeדָ֥עַתDa.'atH1847?’Thereforeלָכֵ֣ןla.KhenH3651I have declaredהִ֭גַּדְתִּיHi.gad.tiH5046that which I did not understandאָבִ֑ין'a.VinH995,Thingsנִפְלָא֥וֹתnif.la.'otH6381tooמִ֝מֶּ֗נִּיmi.Me.niH4480wonderfulH6381for me, which I do not knowאֵדָֽע׃'e.Da'H3045.

4‘Pleaseנָ֭אna'H4994listenשְֽׁמַֽע־she.ma'-H8085,and I will speakאֲדַבֵּ֑ר'a.da.BerH1696; I willaskאֶ֝שְׁאָלְךָ֗'esh.'al.khaH7592You, and You instructוְהוֹדִיעֵֽנִי׃ve.ho.di.'E.niH3045me.’

5I haveheardשְׁמַעְתִּ֑יךָshe.ma'.Ti.khaH8085of You by the hearingלְשֵֽׁמַע־le.she.ma'-H8088of the earאֹ֥זֶן'O.zenH241;But nowוְ֝עַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258myeyeעֵינִ֥י'ei.NiH5869seesרָאָֽתְךָ׃ra.'A.te.khaH7200You;

6Thereforeכֵּ֭ןkenH5921 H3651I retractאֶמְאַ֣ס'em.'AsH3988,And I repentוְנִחַ֑מְתִּיve.ni.Cham.tiH5162, sittingon dustעָפָ֥ר'a.FarH6083and ashesוָאֵֽפֶר׃ פva.'E.ferH665.”

7It cameH1961aboutH1961afterאַחַ֨ר'a.CharH310the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068had spokenדִּבֶּ֧רdi.BerH1696theseהָאֵ֖לֶּהha.'E.lehH428wordsהַדְּבָרִ֥יםha.de.va.RimH1697to Jobאִיּ֑וֹב'i.YovH347,that the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Eliphazאֱלִיפַ֣ז'e.li.FazH464the Temaniteהַתֵּֽימָנִ֗יha.tei.ma.NiH8489, “My wrathאַפִּ֤י'a.PiH639is kindledחָרָ֨הcha.RahH2734against you and against your twoוּבִשְׁנֵ֣יu.vish.NeiH8147friendsרֵעֶ֔יךָre.'Ei.khaH7453,becauseכִּ֠יkiH3588you have not spokenדִבַּרְתֶּ֥םdi.bar.TemH1696of Me whatH3559isH3559trustworthyH3559,as My servantכְּעַבְדִּ֥יke.'av.DiH5650Jobאִיּֽוֹב׃'i.YovH347has.

8Nowוְעַתָּ֡הve.'a.TahH6258therefore, takeקְחֽוּ־ke.chu-H3947for yourselvessevenשִׁבְעָֽה־shiv.'ah-H7651bullsפָרִים֩fa.RimH6499and sevenוְשִׁבְעָ֨הve.shiv.'AhH7651ramsאֵילִ֜ים'ei.LimH352,and goוּלְכ֣וּ׀u.le.KhuH1980to My servantעַבְדִּ֣י'av.DiH5650Jobאִיּ֗וֹב'i.YovH347,and offerוְהַעֲלִיתֶ֤םve.ha.'a.li.TemH5927upH5927aburntעוֹלָה֙o.LahH5930offeringH5930for yourselves, and My servantעַבְדִּ֔י'av.DiH5650Jobוְאִיּ֣וֹבve.'i.YovH347willprayיִתְפַּלֵּ֖לyit.pa.LelH6419for you. For I willacceptפָּנָ֣יו אֶשָּׂ֗אpa.Nav 'e.Sa'H6440 H5375him soH1115asH1115notH1115to doעֲשׂ֤וֹתa.SotH6213with you as yourfoolishnessנְבָלָ֔הne.va.LahH5039deserves,becauseH3588you have not spokenדִבַּרְתֶּ֥םdi.bar.TemH1696of Me whatH3559isH3559trustworthyH3559,as My servantכְּעַבְדִּ֥יke.'av.DiH5650Jobאִיּֽוֹב׃'i.YovH347has.”

9So Eliphazאֱלִיפַ֨ז'e.li.FazH464the Temaniteהַתֵּֽימָנִ֜יha.tei.ma.NiH8489,Bildadוּבִלְדַּ֣דu.vil.DadH1085the Shuhiteהַשּׁוּחִ֗יha.shu.ChiH7747, andZopharצֹפַר֙tzo.FarH6691the Naamathiteהַנַּ֣עֲמָתִ֔יha.Na.'a.ma.TiH5284wentוַיֵּלְכוּ֩vai.ye.le.KhuH1980and didוַֽיַּעֲשׂ֔וּvai.ya.'a.SuH6213as the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068toldדִּבֶּ֥רdi.BerH1696them; and the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068acceptedוַיִּשָּׂ֥א פְּנֵ֥יvai.yi.Sa' pe.NeiH5375 H6440Jobאִיּֽוֹב׃'i.YovH347.

God Restores Job’s Fortunes

10The Lordוַֽיהוָ֗הva.Yah.wehH3068alsorestoredשָׁ֚בSha.vH7725the fortunesשְׁב֣וּתshe.vitH7622of Jobאִיּ֔וֹב'i.YovH347when he prayedבְּהִֽתְפַּֽלְל֖וֹbe.hit.pa.LoH6419for his friendsרֵעֵ֑הוּre.'E.huH7453,and the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068increasedוַ֧יֹּסֶףVai.yo.sefH3254doubleלְמִשְׁנֶֽה׃le.mish.NehH4932allכָּל־kol-H3605that Jobלְאִיּ֖וֹבle.'i.YovH347had.

11Then allכָּל־kol-H3605hisbrothersאֶחָ֨יו'e.ChavH251,allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605his sistersאַחְיוֹתָ֜יו'ach.yo.tavH269,and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605who had knownיֹדְעָ֣יוyo.de.'AvH3045him beforeלְפָנִ֗יםle.fa.NimH6440cameוַיָּבֹ֣אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935to him, and they ateוַיֹּאכְל֨וּvai.yo.khe.LuH398breadלֶחֶם֮le.ChemH3899with him in his houseבְּבֵיתוֹ֒be.vei.ToH1004; and theysympathizedוַיָּנֻ֤דוּvai.ya.Nu.duH5110with him and comfortedוַיְנַחֲמ֣וּvay.na.cha.MuH5162him for allכָּל־kol-H3605the adversitiesH7463that the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068had broughtהֵבִ֥יאhe.Vi'H935on him. And eachH376oneH376gaveוַיִּתְּנוּ־vai.yi.te.nu-H5414him apieceקְשִׂיטָ֣הke.si.TahH7192ofH7192moneyH7192,and eachH376a ringנֶ֥זֶםNe.zemH5141of goldזָהָ֖בza.HavH2091.

12The Lordוַֽיהוָ֗הva.Yah.wehH3068blessedבֵּרַ֛ךְbe.RakhH1288the latterאַחֲרִ֥ית'a.cha.RitH319daysof Jobאִיּ֖וֹב'i.YovH347moreH4480thanH4480his beginningמֵרֵאשִׁת֑וֹme.re.shi.ToH7225;and he hadוַֽיְהִי־vay.hi-H1961fourteenאַרְבָּעָה֩ עָשָׂ֨ר'ar.ba.'Ah 'a.SarH702 H6240thousandאֶ֜לֶף'E.lefH505sheepצֹ֗אןTzonH6629,sixוְשֵׁ֤שֶׁתve.She.shetH8337thousandאֲלָפִים֙'a.la.FimH505camelsגְּמַלִּ֔יםge.ma.LimH1581,a thousandוְאֶֽלֶף־ve.'e.lef-H505yokeצֶ֥מֶדTze.medH6776of oxenבָּקָ֖רba.KarH1241,and a thousandוְאֶ֥לֶףve.'E.lefH505femaleאֲתוֹנֽוֹת׃'a.to.NotH860donkeysH860.

13He also hadוַֽיְהִי־vay.hi-H1961sevenשִׁבְעָ֥נָהshiv.'A.nahH7658sonsבָנִ֖יםva.NimH1121and threeוְשָׁל֥וֹשׁve.sha.Lo.oshH7969daughtersבָּנֽוֹת׃ba.NotH1323.

14He namedוַיִּקְרָ֤אvai.yik.Ra'H7121 H8034the firstהָֽאַחַת֙ha.'a.ChatH259Jemimahיְמִימָ֔הye.mi.MahH3224,the secondהַשֵּׁנִ֖יתha.she.NitH8145Keziahקְצִיעָ֑הke.tzi.'AhH7103,and the thirdהַשְּׁלִישִׁ֖יתha.she.li.ShitH7992Keren-happuchH7163.

15In allבְּכָל־be.kholH3605the landהָאָ֑רֶץha.'A.retzH776noוְלֹ֨אve.Lo'H3808womenנָשִׁ֥יםna.ShimH802were foundנִמְצָ֜אnim.Tza'H4672as beautifulיָפ֛וֹתya.FotH3303as Job’sאִיּ֖וֹב'i.YovH347daughtersכִּבְנ֥וֹתkiv.NotH1323;and their fatherאֲבִיהֶ֛ם'a.vi.HemH1gaveוַיִּתֵּ֨ןvai.yi.TenH5414them inheritancesנַחֲלָ֖הna.cha.LahH5159amongבְּת֥וֹךְbe.TokhH8432their brothersאֲחֵיהֶֽם׃ ס'a.chei.HemH251.
