8Then the wordדְבַר־de.var-H1697of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068cameוַיְהִ֥יvay.HiH1961to him, sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

9“Ariseק֣וּםkumH6965,goלֵ֤ךְlekhH1980toZarephathצָרְפַ֙תָה֙tza.re.Fa.tahH6886,whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834belongs to Sidonלְצִיד֔וֹןle.tzi.DonH6721,and stayוְיָשַׁבְתָּ֖ve.ya.shav.TaH3427thereשָׁ֑םShamH8033;beholdהִנֵּ֨הhi.NehH2009,I have commandedצִוִּ֥יתִיtzi.Vi.tiH6680a widowאִשָּׁ֥ה אַלְמָנָ֖ה'i.Shah 'al.ma.NahH802 H490thereשָׁ֛םshamH8033to provideH3557foodH3557for you.”

10So he aroseוַיָּ֣קָם׀vai.Ya.komH6965and wentוַיֵּ֣לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980to Zarephathצָרְפַ֗תָהtza.re.Fa.tahH6886,and when he cameוַיָּבֹא֙vai.ya.Vo'H935to the entranceפֶּ֣תַחPe.tachH6607of the cityהָעִ֔ירha.'IrH5892,beholdוְהִנֵּֽה־ve.hi.neh-H2009,a widowאִשָּׁ֥ה אַלְמָנָ֖ה'i.Shah 'al.ma.NahH802 H490was thereשָׁ֛םshamH8033gatheringמְקֹשֶׁ֣שֶׁתme.ko.She.shetH7197sticksעֵצִ֑ים'e.TzimH6086; andhe calledוַיִּקְרָ֤אvai.yik.Ra'H7121to her and saidוַיֹּאמַ֔רvai.yo.MarH559, “Pleaseנָ֨אna'H4994getקְחִי־ke.chi-H3947me a littleמְעַט־me.'at-H4592waterמַ֛יִםMa.yimH4325in acupבַּכְּלִ֖יba.ke.LiH3627,so that I may drinkוְאֶשְׁתֶּֽה׃ve.'esh.TehH8354.”

11As she was goingוַתֵּ֖לֶךְva.Te.lekhH1980to getלָקַ֑חַתla.Ka.chatH3947it,he calledוַיִּקְרָ֤אvai.yik.Ra'H7121to her and saidוַיֹּאמַ֔רvai.yo.MarH559, “Pleaseנָ֥אna'H4994bringלִֽקְחִי־lik.chi-H3947me a pieceפַּת־pat-H6595of breadלֶ֖חֶםLe.chemH3899in your handבְּיָדֵֽךְ׃be.ya.DekhH3027.”

12But she saidוַתֹּ֗אמֶרva.To.merH559, “As the Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙'e.lo.Hei.khaH430livesחַי־chai-H2416,I haveיֶשׁ־yesh-H3426noאִם־'im-H518foodמָע֔וֹגma.'ogH4580,onlyכִּ֣י אִם־ki 'im-H3588 H518a handfulמְלֹ֤א כַף־me.Lo' khaf-H4393 H3709of flourקֶ֙מַח֙ke.machH7058in thebowlבַּכַּ֔דba.KadH3537and a littleוּמְעַט־u.me.'at-H4592oilשֶׁ֖מֶןShe.menH8081in the jarבַּצַּפָּ֑חַתba.tza.Pa.chatH6835;and beholdH2009,I am gatheringמְקֹשֶׁ֜שֶׁתme.ko.She.shetH7197a fewשְׁנַ֣יִםshe.Na.yimH8147sticksעֵצִ֗ים'e.TzimH6086so that I may goוּבָ֙אתִי֙u.Va.tiH935inH935and prepareוַעֲשִׂיתִ֙יהוּ֙va.'a.si.Ti.huH6213it for me and my sonוְלִבְנִ֔יve.liv.NiH1121, so that we mayeatוַאֲכַלְנֻ֖הוּva.'a.khal.Nu.huH398it anddieוָמָֽתְנוּ׃va.Ma.te.nuH4191.”

13However, Elijahאֵלִיָּ֙הוּ֙'e.li.Ya.huH452saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to her, “Do not fearתִּ֣ירְאִ֔יtir.'IH3372;goבֹּ֖אִיBo.'iH935,doעֲשִׂ֣י'a.SiH6213as you have saidכִדְבָרֵ֑ךְkhid.va.RekhH1697.Justאַ֣ךְ'akhH389makeעֲשִׂי־'a.si-H6213me a littleקְטַנָּ֤הke.ta.NahH6996breadעֻגָ֨ה'u.GahH5692loafH5692fromit firstבָרִאשֹׁנָה֙va.ri.sho.NahH7223and bringוְהוֹצֵ֣אתְve.ho.TzetH3318itoutH3318to me, and afterwardבָּאַחֲרֹנָֽה׃ סba.'a.cha.ro.NahH314you may makeתַּעֲשִׂ֖יta.'a.SiH6213onefor yourself and for your sonוְלִבְנֵ֔ךְve.liv.NekhH1121.

14For thisH3541isH3541whatH3541the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068,the Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478saysאָמַ֨ר'a.MarH559: ‘Thebowlכַּ֤דkadH3537of flourהַקֶּ֙מַח֙ha.Ke.machH7058shall not be usedH3615upH3615,norH3808shall the jarוְצַפַּ֥חַתve.tza.Pa.chatH6835of oilהַשֶּׁ֖מֶןha.She.menH8081becomeH2637emptyH2637,untilעַ֠ד'adH5704the dayי֧וֹםYomH3117that the Lordיְהוָ֛הha.shemH3068providesתֵּתti.ten-H5414rainגֶּ֖שֶׁםGe.shemH1653on the faceפְּנֵ֥יpe.NeiH6440of the earthהָאֲדָמָֽה׃ha.'a.da.MahH127.’”

15So she wentוַתֵּ֥לֶךְva.Te.lekhH1980and didוַתַּעֲשֶׂ֖הva.ta.'a.SehH6213everythingin accordance with the wordכִּדְבַ֣רkid.VarH1697of Elijahאֵלִיָּ֑הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452,and she and he and her householdוּבֵיתָ֖הּu.vei.TahH1004ateוַתֹּ֧אכַלva.To.khalH398for manydaysיָמִֽים׃ya.MimH3117.

16Thebowlכַּ֤דkadH3537of flourהַקֶּ֙מַח֙ha.Ke.machH7058was not usedH3615upH3615,norH3808did the jarוְצַפַּ֥חַתve.tza.Pa.chatH6835of oilהַשֶּׁ֖מֶןha.She.menH8081becomeH2637emptyH2637,in accordance with the wordכִּדְבַ֣רkid.VarH1697of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834He spokeדִּבֶּ֖רdi.BerH1696throughבְּיַ֥דbe.YadH3027Elijahאֵלִיָּֽהוּ׃ פ'e.li.Ya.huH452.

17Now it happenedוַיְהִ֗יvay.HiH1961afterאַחַר֙'a.CharH310theseהָאֵ֔לֶּהha.'E.lehH428thingsהַדְּבָרִ֣יםha.de.va.RimH1697that the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of the womanהָאִשָּׁ֖הha.'i.ShahH802,the mistressבַּעֲלַ֣תba.'a.LatH1172of the houseהַבָּ֑יִתha.Ba.yitH1004,becameH2470sickחָלָ֕הcha.LahH2470; and hisconditionחָלְיוֹ֙chal.YoH2483becameוַיְהִ֤יvay.HiH1961veryמְאֹ֔דme.'OdH3966graveחָזָ֣קcha.ZakH2389,untilעַ֛ד'adH5704at the endhe wasH3498noלֹא־lo'-H3808longerH3498breathingנְשָׁמָֽה׃ne.sha.MahH5397.

18So she saidוַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙va.To.merH559to Elijahאֵ֣לִיָּ֔הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452, “Whyמַה־mah-H4100is my business any of yours, youmanאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֑יםha.'E.lo.HimH430? Yetyou have comeבָּ֧אתָBa.taH935to me to bringלְהַזְכִּ֥ירle.haz.KirH2142my wrongdoingעֲוֹנִ֖י'a.vo.NiH5771toH2142remembranceH2142,and to putוּלְהָמִ֥יתu.le.ha.MitH4191my sonבְּנִֽי׃be.NiH1121toH4191deathH4191!”

19But he saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to her, “Giveתְּנִֽי־te.ni-H5414me your sonבְּנֵ֑ךְbe.NekhH1121.”Then he tookוַיִּקָּחֵ֣הוּvai.yi.ka.Che.huH3947him from herarmsמֵחֵיקָ֗הּme.chei.KahH2436and carriedH5927him upH5927to the upstairsH5944roomהָעֲלִיָּ֗הha.'a.li.YahH5944whereאֲשֶׁר־ שָׁ֔ם'a.Sher- ShamH834 H8033he was livingיֹשֵׁ֣בyo.ShevH3427,and laidוַיַּשְׁכִּבֵ֖הוּvai.yash.ki.Ve.huH7901him on his own bedמִטָּתֽוֹ׃mi.ta.ToH4296.

20And he calledוַיִּקְרָ֥אvai.yik.Ra'H7121to the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068and saidוַיֹּאמַ֑רvai.yo.MarH559, “Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068,my Godאֱלֹהָ֔י'e.lo.HaiH430,have You alsoהֲ֠גַםHa.gamH1571broughtH7489catastropheH7489upon the widowהָאַלְמָנָ֞הha.'al.ma.NahH490with whomאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834I amstayingמִתְגּוֹרֵ֥רmit.go.RerH1481,by causing her sonבְּנָֽהּ׃be.NahH1121to dieלְהָמִ֥יתle.ha.MitH4191?”

21Then he stretchedH4058himself outH4058overH5921the boyהַיֶּ֙לֶד֙hai.Ye.ledH3206threeשָׁלֹ֣שׁsha.LoshH7969timesפְּעָמִ֔יםpe.'a.MimH6471,and calledוַיִּקְרָ֥אvai.yik.Ra'H7121to the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068and saidוַיֹּאמַ֑רvai.yo.MarH559, “Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068,my Godאֱלֹהָ֔י'e.lo.HaiH430,pleaseנָ֛אna'H4994,let thisהַזֶּ֖הha.ZehH2088boy’sהַיֶּ֥לֶדhai.Ye.ledH3206lifeנֶֽפֶשׁ־ne.fesh-H5315returnתָּ֥שָׁבta.shoH7725to him.”

22And the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068listenedוַיִּשְׁמַ֥עvai.yish.Ma'H8085to the voiceבְּק֣וֹלbe.KolH6963of Elijahאֵלִיָּ֑הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452,and the lifeנֶֽפֶשׁ־ne.fesh-H5315of the boyהַיֶּ֛לֶדhai.Ye.ledH3206returnedוַתָּ֧שָׁבva.Ta.shovH7725to him and he revivedוַיֶּֽחִי׃vai.Ye.chiH2421.

23Elijahאֵלִיָּ֜הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452then tookוַיִּקַּ֨חvai.yi.KachH3947the boyהַיֶּ֗לֶדhai.Ye.ledH3206and broughtH3381him downוַיֹּרִדֵ֤הוּvai.yo.ri.De.huH3381from the upstairsH5944roomהָעֲלִיָּה֙ha.'a.li.YahH5944into the houseהַבַּ֔יְתָהha.Bay.tahH1004and gaveוַֽיִּתְּנֵ֖הוּvai.yi.te.Ne.huH5414him to his motherלְאִמּ֑וֹle.'i.MoH517;and Elijahאֵ֣לִיָּ֔הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “Seeרְאִ֖יre.'IH7200,your sonבְּנֵֽךְ׃be.NekhH1121is aliveחַ֥יchaiH2416.”

24Then the womanהָֽאִשָּׁה֙ha.'i.ShahH802saidוַתֹּ֤אמֶרva.To.merH559to Elijahאֵ֣לִיָּ֔הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452, “Nowעַתָּה֙'a.TahH6258I knowיָדַ֔עְתִּיya.Da'.tiH3045that you are a manאִ֥ישׁ'ishH376of Godאֱלֹהִ֖ים'E.lo.HimH430,and that the wordוּדְבַר־u.de.var-H1697of the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068in your mouthבְּפִ֖יךָbe.Fi.khaH6310is truthאֱמֶֽת׃ פ'e.MetH571.”
