Proverbs 28

Warnings and Instructions

1The wicked 1flee when no one is pursuing, But the righteous are 2bold as a lion.2Due to a 3wrongdoing of 4a land its leaders are 5many, But 6by a person of understanding and knowledge, so it endures.3A 7poor man who oppresses the helpless Is like a driving rain 8which leaves no food.4Those who abandon the Law 9praise the wicked, But those who keep the Law 10strive against them.5Evil people 11do not understand justice, But those who seek the Lord 12understand everything.613Better is a poor person who walks in his integrity, Than a person who is 14crooked, though he is rich.7He who keeps the Law is a discerning son, But he who is a companion of 15gluttons humiliates his father.8One who increases his wealth by 1617interest of any kind, Collects it 18for one who is gracious to the poor.9One who turns his ear away from listening to the Law, Even his 19prayer is an abomination.10One who leads the upright astray in an evil way Will 20himself fall into his own pit, But the 21blameless will inherit good.11The rich person is 22wise in his own eyes, But the poor who has understanding 23sees through him.12When the 24righteous triumph, there is great glory, But 25when the wicked rise, people 26hide themselves.13One who 27conceals his wrongdoings will not prosper, But one who 28confesses and abandons them will find compassion.14How blessed is the person who 29fears always, But one who 30hardens his heart will fall into disaster.15Like a 31roaring lion and a rushing bear Is a 32wicked ruler over a poor people.16A 33leader who is a great oppressor lacks understanding, But a person who hates unjust gain will prolong his days.17A person who is 34burdened with the guilt of human blood Will 35be a fugitive until death; no one is to support him!18One who walks blamelessly will receive help, But one who is 3637crooked will fall all at once.1938One who works his land will 39have plenty of food, But one who follows empty pursuits will have plenty of poverty.20A 40faithful person will abound with blessings, But one who 41hurries to be rich will not go unpunished.21To 4243show partiality is not good, 44Because for a piece of bread a man will do wrong.22A person with an 45evil eye 46hurries after wealth And does not know that poverty will come upon him.23One who 47rebukes a person will afterward find more favor Than one who 48flatters with the tongue.24He who 49robs his father or his mother And says, “There is no wrong done,” Is the 50companion of a person who destroys.25An 51arrogant person 52stirs up strife, But one who 53trusts in the Lord 54will 55prosper.26One who 56trusts in his own heart is a fool, But one who walks wisely will flee to safety.27One who 57gives to the poor will never lack anything, But one who 58shuts his eyes will have many curses.28When the wicked rise, people hide themselves; But when they perish, the righteous increase.
