Proverbs 10

Contrast of the Righteous and the Wicked

1The 1proverbs of Solomon. 2A wise son makes a father glad, But 3a foolish son is a grief to his mother.245Ill-gotten gains do not benefit, But righteousness rescues from death.3The Lord 6will not allow the 7righteous to hunger, But He 8will 9reject the craving of the wicked.4Poor is one who works with 10a lazy hand, But the 11hand of the diligent makes rich.5He who gathers in summer is a son who acts wisely, But he who sleeps in harvest is a son who acts shamefully.612Blessings are on the head of the righteous, But 13the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.7The 14mentioning of the righteous is a blessing, But 15the name of the wicked will rot.8The 16wise of heart will receive commands, But 17a babbling fool will come to ruin.9One 18who walks in integrity walks securely, But 19one who perverts his ways will be found out.10He 20who winks the eye causes trouble, And 2122a babbling fool will come to ruin.11The 23mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, But 24the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.12Hatred stirs up strife, But 25love covers all offenses.13On 26the lips of the discerning, wisdom is found, But 27a rod is for the back of him who has no 28sense.14Wise people 29store up knowledge, But with 30the mouth of the foolish, ruin is at hand.15The 31rich person’s wealth is his 32fortress, The 33ruin of the poor is their poverty.16The 3435wages of the righteous is life, The income of the wicked, punishment.17One who 36is on the path of life follows instruction, But one who ignores a rebuke goes astray.18One 37who conceals hatred has lying lips, And one who spreads slander is a fool.19When there are 38many words, wrongdoing is unavoidable, But 39one who restrains his lips is wise.20The tongue of the righteous is like 40choice silver, The heart of the wicked is worth little.21The 41lips of the righteous feed many, But fools 42die for lack of 43understanding.22It is the 44blessing of the Lord that makes rich, And He adds no sorrow to it.23Doing wickedness is like 45sport to a fool, And so is wisdom to a person of understanding.24What 46the wicked fears will come upon him, But the 47desire of the righteous will be granted.25When the 48whirlwind passes, the wicked is no more, But the 49righteous has an everlasting foundation.26Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, So is the 5051lazy one to those who send him.27The 52fear of the Lord prolongs 53life, But the 54years of the wicked will be shortened.28The 55hope of the righteous is gladness, But the 56expectation of the wicked perishes.29The 57way of the Lord is a stronghold for the upright, But 58ruin to the workers of injustice.30The 59righteous will never be shaken, But 60the wicked will not live in the land.31The 61mouth of the righteous flows with wisdom, But the 62perverted tongue will be cut out.32The lips of the righteous know 63what is acceptable, But the 64mouth of the wicked, what is perverted.
