Context of John 16:24

22Therefore you too have grief now; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one is going to take your joy away from you. 23And on that day you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you. Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full. 25“These things I have spoken to you in figures of speech; an hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures of speech, but will tell you plainly about the Father. 26On that day you will ask in My name, and I am not saying to you that I will request of the Father on your behalf;

• Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 24Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name - Ye have not as yet considered me the great Mediator between God and man; but this is one of the truths which shall be more fully revealed to you by the Holy Spirit. Ask - In my name; and ye shall receive - all the salvation ye thus request; the consequence of which shall be that your joy shall be full - ye shall be thoroughly happy in being made completely holy.Read the comment
