Galatians 3:2-18
2This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by works of 1the Law, or by 2hearing 3with faith? 3Are you so foolish? Having begun 4by the Spirit, are you now 5being perfected by the flesh? 4Did you 6suffer so many things in vain--7if indeed it was in vain? 5So then, does He who 8provides you with the Spirit and 9works 10miracles among you, do it by works of 11the Law, or by 12hearing 13with faith?
6Just as 14Abraham 15believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness. 7Therefore, recognize that 16it is those who are of faith who are 17sons of Abraham. 8The Scripture, foreseeing that God 18would justify the 19Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “20All the nations will be blessed in you.” 9So then, 21those who are of faith are blessed with 22Abraham, the believer.
10For all who are of works of 23the Law are under a curse; for it is written: “24Cursed is everyone who does not abide by all the things written in the book of the Law, to do them.” 11Now, that 25no one is justified 26by 27the Law before God is evident; for, “2829the righteous one will live by faith.” 1230However, the Law is not 31of faith; on the contrary, “32The person who performs 33them will live by 34them.” 13Christ 35redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us--for it is written: “36Cursed is everyone who hangs on 37a 38tree”-- 14in order that 39in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles, so that we 40would receive 41the promise of the Spirit through faith.
1542Brothers and sisters, 43I speak 44in terms of human relations: 45even though it is only a man’s 46covenant, yet when it has been ratified, no one sets it aside or adds 47conditions to it. 16Now the promises were spoken 48to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as one would in referring to many, but rather as in referring to one, “49And to your seed,” that is, Christ. 17What I am saying is this: the Law, which came 50430 years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise. 18For 51if the inheritance is 52based on law, it is no longer 53based on a promise; but 54God has granted it to Abraham by means of a promise.
