Galatians 5
Follow the Spirit
11It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore 2keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a 3yoke of slavery.
2Look! I, 4Paul, tell you that if you have yourselves 5circumcised, Christ will be of no benefit to you. 3And I 6testify again to every man who has himself 7circumcised, that he is obligated to 8keep the whole Law. 4You have been severed from Christ, you who 9are seeking to be justified by the 10Law; you have 11fallen from grace. 5For we, 12through the Spirit, 13by faith, are 14waiting for the hope of righteousness. 6For in 15Christ Jesus 16neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but 17faith working through love.
7You were 18running well; who hindered you from obeying the truth? 8This persuasion did not come from 19Him who calls you. 920A little 21leaven leavens the whole lump of dough. 1022I have confidence 23in you in the Lord, that you 24will adopt no other view; but the one who is 25disturbing you will bear the punishment, whoever he is. 11But as for me, brothers and sisters, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still 26persecuted? Then 27the stumbling block of the cross has been eliminated. 12I wish that 28those who are troubling you would even 2930emasculate themselves.
13For you were called to 31freedom, brothers and sisters; 32only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but 33serve one another through love. 14For 34the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, “35You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 15But if you 36bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another.
16But I say, 37walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out 38the desire of the flesh. 17For 39the desire of the flesh is against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, 40in order to keep you from doing whatever you want. 18But if you are 41led by the Spirit, 42you are not under the Law. 19Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: 43sexual immorality, impurity, indecent behavior, 20idolatry, 44witchcraft, hostilities, 45strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, 46selfish ambition, dissensions, 47factions, 21envy, 48drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not 49inherit the kingdom of God. 22But 50the fruit of the Spirit is 51love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, 52self-control; against such things 53there is no law. 24Now those who 54belong to 55Christ Jesus 56crucified the flesh with its passions and 57desires.
25If we live by the Spirit, let’s follow 58the Spirit as well. 26Let’s not become 59boastful, challenging one another, envying one another.
