1 Thessalonians 2:6-20

6nor did we 1seek honor from people, either from you or from others, though 2we could have 3asserted our authority as 4apostles of Christ. 7But we 5proved to be 67gentle 8among you. 9As a nursing mother 10tenderly cares for her own children, 8in the same way we had a fond affection for you and were delighted to 11share with you not only the 12gospel of God, but also our own 13lives, because you had become 14very dear to us.

9For you recall, brothers and sisters, our 15labor and hardship: it was by 16working night and day so as not to be a 17burden to any of you, that we proclaimed to you the 18gospel of God. 10You are witnesses, and so is 19God, of 20how devoutly and rightly and blamelessly we 21behaved toward you 22believers; 11just as you know how we were 23exhorting and encouraging and 24imploring each one of you as 25a father would his own children, 12so that you would 26walk in a manner worthy of the God who 27calls you into His own kingdom and 28glory.

13For this reason we also constantly 29thank God that when you received the 30word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it 31not as the word of mere men, but as what it really is, the word of God, 32which also is at work in you who believe. 14For you, brothers and sisters, became 33imitators of 34the churches of God in Christ Jesus that are 35in Judea, for 36you also endured the same sufferings at the hands of your own countrymen, 37even as they did from the Jews, 1538who both killed the Lord Jesus and 39the prophets, and 40drove us out. 41They are not pleasing to God, 42but hostile to all people, 1643hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles 44so that they may be saved; with the result that they always 4546reach the limit of their sins. But 47wrath has come upon them 48fully.

17But we, brothers and sisters, having been orphaned from you by absence for a 49short while--50in 51person, not in 52spirit--were all the more eager with great desire 53to see your face. 1854For 55we wanted to come to you--I, Paul, 5657more than once--and 58Satan 59hindered us. 19For who is our hope, or 60joy or crown of pride, in the presence of our Lord Jesus at His 6162coming? Or is it not indeed you? 20For you are 63our glory and joy.
