1 Thessalonians 2:6-20

6nor did we 1seek glory from men, either from you or from others, even though as 2apostles of Christ 3we might have 4asserted our authority. 7But we 5proved to be 67gentle 8among you, 9as a nursing mother 10tenderly cares for her own children. 8Having so fond an affection for you, we were well-pleased to 11impart to you not only the 12gospel of God but also our own 13lives, because you had become 14very dear to us.

9For you recall, brethren, our 15labor and hardship, how 16working night and day so as not to be a 17burden to any of you, we proclaimed to you the 18gospel of God. 10You are witnesses, and so is 19God, 20how devoutly and uprightly and blamelessly we 21behaved toward you 22believers; 11just as you know how we were 23exhorting and encouraging and 2425imploring each one of you as 26a father would his own children, 12so that you would 27walk in a manner worthy of the God who 28calls you into His own kingdom and 29glory.

13For this reason we also constantly 30thank God that when you received the 31word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it 32not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, 33which also performs its work in you who believe. 14For you, brethren, became 34imitators of 35the churches of God in Christ Jesus that are 36in Judea, for 37you also endured the same sufferings at the hands of your own countrymen, 38even as they did from the Jews, 1539who both killed the Lord Jesus and 40the prophets, and 41drove us out. 42They are not pleasing to God, 43but hostile to all men, 1644hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles 45so that they may be saved; with the result that they always 46fill up the measure of their sins. But 47wrath has come upon them 48to the utmost.

17But we, brethren, having been taken away from you for a 49short while--50in 51person, not in 52spirit--were all the more eager with great desire 53to see your face. 1854For 55we wanted to come to you--I, Paul, 5657more than once--and yet 58Satan 59hindered us. 19For who is our hope or 60joy or crown of exultation? Is it not even you, in the presence of our Lord Jesus at His 6162coming? 20For you are 63our glory and joy.
