1 John 4:2-21
2By this you know the Spirit of God: 1every spirit that 2confesses that 3Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; 3and every spirit that 4does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the 5antichrist, which you have heard is coming, and 6now it is already in the world. 4You are from God, 7little children, and 8have overcome them; because 9greater is He who is in you than 10he who is in the world. 511They are from the world, therefore they speak as from the world, and the world listens to them. 612We are from God. 13The one who knows God listens to us; 14the one who is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know 15the spirit of truth and 16the spirit of error.
717Beloved, let’s 18love one another; for love is from God, and 19everyone who loves has been 20born of God and 21knows God. 8The one who does not love does not know God, because 22God is love. 9By this the love of God was revealed 2324in us, that 25God has sent His only Son into the world so that we may live through Him. 10In this is love, 26not that we loved God, but that 27He loved us and sent His Son to be 28the 29propitiation for our sins. 1130Beloved, if God so loved us, 31we also ought to love one another. 1232No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God remains in us, and His 33love is perfected in us. 1334By this we know that we remain in Him and He in us, because He has given to us of His Spirit. 14We have seen and 35testify that the Father has 36sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.
1537Whoever confesses that 38Jesus is the Son of God, God 39remains in him, and he in God. 1640We have come to know and have believed the love which God has 4142for us. 43God is love, and the one who 44remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him. 17By this, 45love is perfected with us, so that we may have 46confidence in 47the day of judgment; because 48as He is, we also are in this world. 18There is no fear in love, but 49perfect love drives out fear, because fear 50involves punishment, and the one who fears is not 51perfected in love. 1952We love, because He first loved us. 2053If someone says, “I love God,” and yet he 54hates his brother or sister, he is a 55liar; for 56the one who does not love his brother and sister whom he has seen, 57cannot love God, whom he has not seen. 21And 58this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God 59must also love his brother and sister.
