Testing the Spirits

11Beloved, do not believe every 2spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because 3many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2By this you know the Spirit of God: 4every spirit that 5confesses that 6Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; 3and every spirit that 7does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the 8antichrist, which you have heard is coming, and 9now it is already in the world. 4You are from God, 10little children, and 11have overcome them; because 12greater is He who is in you than 13he who is in the world. 514They are from the world, therefore they speak as from the world, and the world listens to them. 615We are from God. 16The one who knows God listens to us; 17the one who is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know 18the spirit of truth and 19the spirit of error.

God Is Love

720Beloved, let’s 21love one another; for love is from God, and 22everyone who loves has been 23born of God and 24knows God. 8The one who does not love does not know God, because 25God is love. 9By this the love of God was revealed 2627in us, that 28God has sent His only Son into the world so that we may live through Him. 10In this is love, 29not that we loved God, but that 30He loved us and sent His Son to be 31the 32propitiation for our sins. 1133Beloved, if God so loved us, 34we also ought to love one another. 1235No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God remains in us, and His 36love is perfected in us. 1337By this we know that we remain in Him and He in us, because He has given to us of His Spirit. 14We have seen and 38testify that the Father has 39sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.

1540Whoever confesses that 41Jesus is the Son of God, God 42remains in him, and he in God. 1643We have come to know and have believed the love which God has 4445for us. 46God is love, and the one who 47remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him. 17By this, 48love is perfected with us, so that we may have 49confidence in 50the day of judgment; because 51as He is, we also are in this world. 18There is no fear in love, but 52perfect love drives out fear, because fear 53involves punishment, and the one who fears is not 54perfected in love. 1955We love, because He first loved us. 2056If someone says, “I love God,” and yet he 57hates his brother or sister, he is a 58liar; for 59the one who does not love his brother and sister whom he has seen, 60cannot love God, whom he has not seen. 21And 61this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God 62must also love his brother and sister.
