1NowNadabנָדָ֨בna.DavH5070and Abihuוַאֲבִיה֜וּאva.'a.vi.Hu'H30,the sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of Aaronאַ֠הֲרֹן'A.ha.ronH175,tookוַיִּקְח֣וּvai.yik.ChuH3947their respectiveאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376firepansמַחְתָּת֗וֹmach.ta.ToH4289,and after puttingוַיִּתְּנ֤וּvai.yi.te.NuH5414fireאֵ֔שׁ'EshH784in them, placedוַיָּשִׂ֥ימוּvai.ya.Si.muH7760incenseקְטֹ֑רֶתke.To.retH7004on it and offeredוַיַּקְרִ֜בוּvai.yak.Ri.vuH7126strangeזָרָ֔הza.RahH2114fireאֵ֣שׁ'eshH784beforeלִפְנֵ֤יlif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068,whichאֲשֶׁ֧ר'a.SherH834He had not commandedצִוָּ֖הtzi.VahH6680them.

2And fireאֵ֛שׁ'eshH784cameוַתֵּ֥צֵאva.Te.tze'H3318out from the presenceמִלִּפְנֵ֥יmi.lif.NeiH6440of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068and consumedוַתֹּ֣אכַלva.To.khalH398them, and they diedוַיָּמֻ֖תוּvai.ya.Mu.tuH4191beforeלִפְנֵ֥יlif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.

3Then Mosesמֹשֶׁ֜הmo.ShehH4872saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Aaronאַהֲרֹ֗ן'a.ha.RonH175, “It is whatאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834the Lordיְהוָ֤ה׀Yah.wehH3068spokeדִּבֶּ֨רdi.BerH1696,sayingלֵאמֹר֙le.MorH559, ‘By those whocomeH7126nearבִּקְרֹבַ֣יbik.ro.VaiH7138Me Iwill be treatedH6942as holyאֶקָּדֵ֔שׁ'e.ka.DeshH6942,And beforeוְעַל־ פְּנֵ֥יve.'al- pe.NeiH5921 H6440allכָל־khol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֖םha.'AmH5971I willbe honoredאֶכָּבֵ֑ד'e.ka.VedH3513.’”So Aaronאַהֲרֹֽן׃'a.ha.RonH175,therefore, keptH1826silentוַיִּדֹּ֖םvai.yi.DomH1826.

4Mosesמֹשֶׁ֗הmo.ShehH4872calledוַיִּקְרָ֣אvai.yik.Ra'H7121also toMishaelמִֽישָׁאֵל֙mi.sha.'ElH4332and Elzaphanאֶלְצָפָ֔ן'el.tza.FanH469,the sonsבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121of Aaron’sאַהֲרֹ֑ן'a.ha.RonH175uncleדֹּ֣דdodH1730Uzzielעֻזִּיאֵ֖ל'u.zi.'ElH5816,and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to them, “ComeH7126forwardH7126,carryשְׂא֤וּse.'UH5375yourrelativesאֲחֵיכֶם֙'a.chei.KhemH251awayH5375from the frontפְּנֵי־pe.nei-H6440of the sanctuaryהַקֹּ֔דֶשׁha.Ko.deshH6944to the outsideמִח֖וּץmi.ChutzH4480 H2351of the campלַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃La.ma.cha.NehH4264.”

5So they cameH7126forwardH7126and carriedוַיִּשָּׂאֻם֙vai.yi.sa.'UmH5375them still in theirtunicsבְּכֻתֳּנֹתָ֔םbe.khu.to.no.TamH3801to the outsideמִח֖וּץmi.ChutzH4480 H2351of the campלַֽמַּחֲנֶ֑הla.ma.cha.NehH4264,as Mosesמֹשֶֽׁה׃mo.ShehH4872had saidדִּבֶּ֥רdi.BerH1696.

6Then Mosesמֹשֶׁ֣הmo.ShehH4872saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Aaronאַהֲרֹ֡ן'a.ha.RonH175and to his sonsבָּנָ֜יוba.NavH1121Eleazarוּלְאֶלְעָזָר֩u.le.'el.'a.ZarH499and Ithamarוּלְאִֽיתָמָ֨ר׀u.le.'i.ta.MarH385, “Do notuncoverתִּפְרָ֣עוּ׀tif.Ra.'uH6544your headsרָֽאשֵׁיכֶ֥םra.shei.KhemH7218norH3808tearתִפְרֹ֙מוּ֙tif.Ro.muH6533your clothesוּבִגְדֵיכֶ֤םu.vig.dei.KhemH899,so that you will not dieתָמֻ֔תוּta.Mu.tuH4191and that He will notbecomeH7107wrathfulH7107againstוְעַ֥לve.'AlH5921allכָּל־kol-H3605the congregationהָעֵדָ֖הha.'e.DahH5712. 7You shall not even goתֵֽצְאוּ֙te.tze.'UH3318out from the doorwayוּמִפֶּתַח֩u.mi.pe.TachH6607of the tentאֹ֨הֶל'O.helH168of meetingמוֹעֵ֜דmo.'EdH4150,orפֶּן־pen-H6435you will dieתָּמֻ֔תוּta.Mu.tuH4191; forthe Lord’sיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068anointingמִשְׁחַ֥תmish.ChatH4888oilשֶׁ֛מֶןShe.menH8081is upon you.” So they didוַֽיַּעֲשׂ֖וּvai.ya.'a.SuH6213according to the wordכִּדְבַ֥רkid.VarH1697of Mosesמֹשֶֽׁה׃ פmo.ShehH4872.

8The Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068then spokeוַיְדַבֵּ֣רvay.da.BerH1696to Aaronאַהֲרֹ֖ן'a.ha.RonH175,sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

9“Do not drinkוְשֵׁכָ֞רve.she.KharH7941wineיַ֣יִןYa.yinH3196or strongH7941drinkתֵּ֣שְׁתְּ׀Te.shetH8354,neither you norאַל־'al-H408your sonsוּבָנֶ֣יךָu.va.Nei.khaH1121with you, when you comeבְּבֹאֲכֶ֛םbe.vo.'a.KhemH935into the tentאֹ֥הֶל'O.helH168of meetingמוֹעֵ֖דmo.'EdH4150,so that you will not dieתָמֻ֑תוּta.Mu.tuH4191--it is a perpetualעוֹלָ֖םo.LamH5769statuteחֻקַּ֥תchu.KatH2708throughout your generationsלְדֹרֹתֵיכֶֽם׃le.do.ro.tei.KhemH1755--

10andso as to makeH914a distinctionH914betweenH996the holyהַקֹּ֖דֶשׁha.Ko.deshH6944and the profaneהַחֹ֑לha.CholH2455,and betweenH996the uncleanהַטָּמֵ֖אha.ta.Me'H2931and the cleanהַטָּהֽוֹר׃ha.ta.HorH2889,

11andso as to teachוּלְהוֹרֹ֖תu.le.ho.RotH3384the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478allכָּל־kol-H3605the statutesהַ֣חֻקִּ֔יםha.chu.KimH2706whichאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068has spokenדִּבֶּ֧רdi.BerH1696to them throughבְּיַד־be.yad-H3027Mosesמֹשֶֽׁה׃ פmo.ShehH4872.”

12Then Mosesמֹשֶׁ֜הmo.ShehH4872spokeוַיְדַבֵּ֨רvay.da.BerH1696to Aaronאַהֲרֹ֗ן'a.ha.RonH175,and to his survivingH3498sonsבָּנָיו֮ba.NavH1121,Eleazarאֶ֠לְעָזָר'El.'a.zorH499and Ithamarאִ֨יתָמָ֥ר׀'i.ta.MarH385, “Takeקְח֣וּke.ChuH3947the grain offeringהַמִּנְחָ֗הha.min.ChahH4503that is leftH3498overH3498from the Lord’sיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068offeringsH801by fireמֵאִשֵּׁ֣יme.'i.SheiH801and eatוְאִכְל֥וּהָve.'ikh.Lu.haH398it unleavenedמַצּ֖וֹתma.TzotH4682besideאֵ֣צֶל'E.tzelH681the altarהַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַha.miz.Be.achH4196,for it is mostקֹ֥דֶשׁKo.deshH6944holyקָֽדָשִׁ֖יםka.da.ShimH6944.

13You shall eatוַאֲכַלְתֶּ֤םva.'a.khal.TemH398it, moreover, in a holyקָדֹ֔שׁka.DoshH6918placeבְּמָק֣וֹםbe.ma.KomH4725,becauseH3588it is your dueחָקְךָ֤cha.ke.ChaH2706and your sons’בָּנֶ֙יךָ֙ba.Nei.khaH1121dueוְחָק־ve.chok-H2706out of the Lord’sיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068offeringsH801by fireמֵאִשֵּׁ֖יme.'i.SheiH801;for thusכֵ֖ןkhenH3651I have been commandedצֻוֵּֽיתִי׃tzu.Vei.tiH6680.

14The breastחֲזֵ֨הcha.ZehH2373of the waveH8573offeringH8573,however, and the thighשׁ֣וֹקShokH7785of the offeringהַתְּרוּמָ֗הha.te.ru.MahH8641you may eatתֹּֽאכְלוּ֙to.khe.LuH398in a cleanטָה֔וֹרta.HorH2889placeבְּמָק֣וֹםbe.ma.KomH4725,you and your sonsוּבָנֶ֥יךָu.va.Nei.khaH1121and your daughtersוּבְנֹתֶ֖יךָu.ve.no.Tei.khaH1323with you; for they have been givenנִתְּנ֔וּni.te.NuH5414as your dueחָקְךָ֤cha.ke.ChaH2706and your sons’בָּנֶ֙יךָ֙ba.Nei.khaH1121dueוְחָק־ve.chok-H2706out of the sacrificesמִזִּבְחֵ֥יmi.ziv.CheiH2077of the peaceשַׁלְמֵ֖יshal.MeiH8002offeringsH8002of the sonsבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

15The thighשׁ֣וֹקShokH7785offeredH8641by liftingH8641up and the breastוַחֲזֵ֣הva.cha.ZehH2373offeredH8573by wavingH8573they shall bringיָבִ֔יאוּya.Vi.'uH935alongעַ֣ל'alH5921with the offeringsH801by fireאִשֵּׁ֤י'i.SheiH801of the portionsH2459of fatהַחֲלָבִים֙ha.cha.la.VimH2459,to presentלְהָנִ֥יףle.ha.NifH5130as a waveH8573offeringH8573beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068;so it shall be a thingH2706perpetuallyעוֹלָ֔םo.LamH5769dueH2706you and your sonsוּלְבָנֶ֤יךָu.le.va.Nei.khaH1121with you, justH3512as the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068has commandedצִוָּ֥הtzi.VahH6680.”

16But Mosesמֹשֶׁ֖הmo.ShehH4872searchedדָּרֹ֥שׁda.RoshH1875carefullyדָּרַ֛שׁda.RashH1875for thegoatH5795of the sinהַֽחַטָּ֗אתha.cha.TatH2403offeringH2403,and beholdוְהִנֵּ֣הve.hi.NehH2009,it had been burnedשֹׂרָ֑ףso.RafH8313up! So he was angryוַ֠יִּקְצֹףVai.yik.tzofH7107with Aaron’sאַהֲרֹ֔ן'a.ha.RonH175survivingהַנּוֹתָרִ֖םha.no.ta.RimH3498sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121Eleazarאֶלְעָזָ֤ר'el.'a.ZarH499and Ithamarאִֽיתָמָר֙'i.ta.MarH385,sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

17“Whyמַדּ֗וּעַma.Du.a'H4069did you not eatאֲכַלְתֶּ֤ם'a.khal.TemH398the sinהַֽחַטָּאת֙ha.cha.taTH2403offeringH2403at the holyהַקֹּ֔דֶשׁha.Ko.deshH6944placeבִּמְק֣וֹםbim.KomH4725?For it is mostקֹ֥דֶשׁKo.deshH6944holyקָֽדָשִׁ֖יםka.da.ShimH6944, andHe gaveנָתַ֣ןna.TanH5414it to you to bearלָשֵׂאת֙la.seTH5375awaythe guiltעֲוֹ֣ן'a.VonH5771of the congregationהָעֵדָ֔הha.'e.DahH5712,to makeלְכַפֵּ֥רle.kha.PerH3722atonementH3722for them beforeלִפְנֵ֥יlif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.

18Beholdהֵ֚ןhenH2005,since its bloodדָּמָ֔הּda.MahH1818had not been broughtהוּבָ֣אhu.Va'H935insideפְּנִ֑ימָהpe.Ni.mahH6441,into the sanctuaryהַקֹּ֖דֶשׁha.Ko.deshH6944,you should certainlyאָכ֨וֹל'a.KholH398haveeatenתֹּאכְל֥וּto.khe.LuH398it in the sanctuaryבַּקֹּ֖דֶשׁba.Ko.deshH6944,justH3512as I commandedצִוֵּֽיתִי׃tzi.Vei.tiH6680.”

19But Aaronאַהֲרֹ֜ן'a.ha.RonH175spokeוַיְדַבֵּ֨רvay.da.BerH1696to Mosesמֹשֶׁ֗הmo.ShehH4872, “Beholdהֵ֣ןhenH2005,this very dayהַ֠יּוֹםHai.yomH3117theypresentedהִקְרִ֨יבוּhik.Ri.vuH7126their sinחַטָּאתָ֤םcha.ta.TamH2403offeringחַטָּאת֙cha.taTH2403and their burntעֹֽלָתָם֙'o.la.TamH5930offeringH5930beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068.When things like theseכָּאֵ֑לֶּהka.'E.lehH428happenedוַתִּקְרֶ֥אנָהva.tik.Re.nahH7122to me, if I had eatenוְאָכַ֤לְתִּיve.'a.Khal.tiH398a sinH2403offeringH2403todayהַיּ֔וֹםhai.YomH3117,would it have been goodהַיִּיטַ֖בhai.yi.TavH3190in the sightבְּעֵינֵ֥יbe.'ei.NeiH5869of the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068?”

20When Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872heardוַיִּשְׁמַ֣עvai.yish.Ma'H8085that,it seemedH3190goodוַיִּיטַ֖בvai.yi.TavH3190in his sightבְּעֵינָֽיו׃ פbe.'ei.NavH5869.
