1Then Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֣עַ־ye.ho.Shu.a'-H3091the sonבִּן־bin-H1121of Nunנ֠וּןnunH5126sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֣חvai.yish.LachH7971twoשְׁנַֽיִם־she.na.yim-H8147menH376as spiesמְרַגְּלִים֙me.ra.ge.LimH7270secretlyחֶ֣רֶשׁChe.reshH2791fromShittimהַשִּׁטִּ֞יםha.shi.TimH7851,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “Goלְכ֛וּle.KhuH1980,viewרְא֥וּre.'UH7200the landהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776,especiallyH853Jerichoיְרִיח֑וֹye.ri.ChoH3405.”So they wentוַיֵּ֨לְכ֜וּvai.Ye.le.KhuH1980and cameוַ֠יָּבֹאוּVai.ya.vo.'uH935into the houseבֵּית־beit-H1004ofa harlotאִשָּׁ֥ה זוֹנָ֛ה'i.Shah zo.NahH802 H2181whose nameוּשְׁמָ֥הּu.she.MahH8034was Rahabרָחָ֖בra.ChavH7343, andlodgedוַיִּשְׁכְּבוּ־vai.yish.ke.vu-H7901thereשָֽׁמָּה׃Sha.mahH8033.

2It was toldוַיֵּ֣אָמַ֔רvai.Ye.'a.MarH559the kingלְמֶ֥לֶךְle.Me.lekhH4428of Jerichoיְרִיח֖וֹye.ri.ChoH3405,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, “Beholdהִנֵּ֣הhi.NehH2009,menH376from the sonsמִבְּנֵ֥יmi.be.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478have comeבָּ֣אוּBa.'uH935hereהֵ֧נָּהHe.nahH2008tonightהַלַּ֛יְלָהha.Lay.lahH3915to searchלַחְפֹּ֥רlach.PorH2658out the landהָאָֽרֶץ׃ha.'A.retzH776.”

3And the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Jerichoיְרִיח֔וֹye.ri.ChoH3405sentוַיִּשְׁלַח֙vai.yish.LachH7971wordto Rahabרָחָ֖בra.ChavH7343,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, “Bringה֠וֹצִיאִיHo.tzi.'iH3318out the menH376who have comeהַבָּאִ֤יםha.ba.'ImH935to you, whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834have enteredבָּ֣אוּBa.'uH935your houseלְבֵיתֵ֔ךְle.vei.TekhH1004,for they have comeבָּֽאוּ׃Ba.'uH935to searchלַחְפֹּ֥רlach.PorH2658out allכָּל־kol-H3605the landהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776.”

4But thewomanהָֽאִשָּׁ֛הha.'i.ShahH802had takenוַתִּקַּ֧חva.ti.KachH3947the twoשְׁנֵ֥יshe.NeiH8147menH376and hiddenוַֽתִּצְפְּנ֑וֹva.titz.pe.NoH6845them, and she saidוַתֹּ֣אמֶר׀va.To.merH559, “YesH3653,the menH376cameבָּ֤אוּBa.'uH935to me, but I did not knowיָדַ֖עְתִּיya.Da'.tiH3045whereמֵאַ֥יִןme.'A.yinH370they were from.

5It cameוַיְהִ֨יvay.HiH1961about when it was timeto shutלִסְגּ֗וֹרlis.GorH5462the gateהַשַּׁ֜עַרha.Sha.'arH8179at darkבַּחֹ֙שֶׁךְ֙ba.Cho.shekhH2822,that the menH376wentיָצָ֔אוּya.Tza.'uH3318out; I do not knowיָדַ֔עְתִּיya.Da'.tiH3045whereאָ֥נָה'A.nahH575the menH376wentהָלְכ֖וּha.le.KhuH1980.Pursueרִדְפ֥וּrid.FuH7291them quicklyמַהֵ֛רma.HerH4118,for you will overtakeתַשִּׂיגֽוּם׃ta.si.GumH5381them.”

6Butshe had broughtהֶעֱלָ֣תַםhe.'e.La.tamH5927them up to the roofהַגָּ֑גָהha.Ga.gahH1406and hiddenוַֽתִּטְמְנֵם֙va.tit.me.NemH2934them in the stalksהָעֵ֔ץha.'EtzH6086of flaxבְּפִשְׁתֵּ֣יbe.fish.TeiH6593which she had laidH6186in orderH6186on the roofהַגָּֽג׃ha.GagH1406.

7So the menH376pursuedרָדְפ֤וּra.de.FuH7291them on the roadדֶּ֣רֶךְDe.rekhH1870to the Jordanהַיַּרְדֵּ֔ןhai.yar.DenH3383to the fordsהַֽמַּעְבְּר֑וֹתha.ma'.be.RotH4569;and as soonH3512as those who were pursuingהָרֹדְפִ֖יםha.ro.de.FimH7291them had goneיָצְא֥וּya.tze.'UH3318out, they shutסָגָ֔רוּsa.Ga.ruH5462the gateוְהַשַּׁ֣עַרve.ha.Sha.'arH8179.

8Now beforeטֶ֣רֶםTe.remH2962they layH7901downיִשְׁכָּב֑וּןyish.ka.VunH7901,she cameעָלְתָ֥ה'al.TahH5927up to them on the roofהַגָּֽג׃ha.GagH1406,

9and saidוַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙va.To.merH559to the menH376, “I knowיָדַ֕עְתִּיya.Da'.tiH3045that the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068has givenנָתַ֧ןna.TanH5414you the landהָאָ֑רֶץha.'A.retzH776, and that theterrorאֵֽימַתְכֶם֙'ei.mat.KhemH367of you has fallenנָפְלָ֤הna.fe.LahH5307on us, and that allכָּל־kol-H3605the inhabitantsיֹשְׁבֵ֥יyo.she.VeiH3427of the landהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776havemeltedH4127awayנָמֹ֛גוּna.Mo.guH4127beforeמִפְּנֵיכֶֽם׃mi.pe.nei.KhemH4480 H6440you.

10For we have heardשָׁמַ֗עְנוּsha.Ma'.nuH8085howאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068driedהוֹבִ֨ישׁho.VishH3001up the waterמֵ֤יmeiH4325of theRedסוּף֙sufH5488 H3220Seaיַם־yam-H3220beforeמִפְּנֵיכֶ֔םmi.pe.nei.KhemH4480 H6440you when you cameבְּצֵאתְכֶ֖םbe.tze.te.KhemH3318out of Egyptמִמִּצְרָ֑יִםmi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714, andwhatוַאֲשֶׁ֣רva.'a.SherH834you didעֲשִׂיתֶ֡ם'a.si.TemH6213to the twoלִשְׁנֵי֩lish.NeiH8147kingsמַלְכֵ֨יmal.KheiH4428of the Amoritesהָאֱמֹרִ֜יha.'e.mo.RiH567whoאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834were beyondבְּעֵ֤בֶרbe.'E.verH5676the Jordanהַיַּרְדֵּן֙hai.yar.DenH3383,to Sihonלְסִיחֹ֣ןle.si.ChonH5511and Ogוּלְע֔וֹגu.le.'ogH5747,whomאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834youutterlyH2763destroyedהֶחֱרַמְתֶּ֖םhe.che.ram.TemH2763.

11When we heardוַנִּשְׁמַע֙va.nish.Ma'H8085it,our heartsלְבָבֵ֔נוּle.va.Ve.nuH3824meltedוַיִּמַּ֣סvai.yi.MasH4549and noוְלֹא־ve.lo'-H3808courageר֛וּחַRu.achH7307remainedקָ֨מָהKa.mahH6965in anyH376manH376anyH5750longerH5750becauseמִפְּנֵיכֶ֑םmi.pe.nei.KhemH4480 H6440of you; for theLordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֔ם'e.lo.hei.KhemH430,He is Godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430in heavenבַּשָּׁמַ֣יִםba.sha.Ma.yimH8064aboveמִמַּ֔עַלmi.Ma.'alH4480 H4605and on earthהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776beneathמִתָּֽחַת׃mi.Ta.chatH4480 H8478.

12Nowוְעַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258therefore, pleaseנָ֥אna'H4994swearהִשָּֽׁבְעוּ־hi.sha.ve.'u-H7650to me by the Lordבַּֽיהוָ֔הba.Yah.wehH3068,sinceכִּי־ki-H3588I have dealtעָשִׂ֥יתִי'a.Si.tiH6213kindlyחָ֑סֶדCha.sedH2617with you, that you alsoגַּם־gam-H1571will dealוַעֲשִׂיתֶ֨םva.'a.si.TemH6213kindlyחֶ֔סֶדChe.sedH2617with my father’sאָבִי֙'a.ViH1householdבֵּ֤יתbeitH1004,and giveוּנְתַתֶּ֥םu.ne.ta.TemH5414me apledgeא֥וֹת'otH226oftruthאֱמֶֽת׃'e.MetH571,

13andspareוְהַחֲיִתֶ֞םve.ha.cha.yi.TemH2421my fatherאָבִ֣י'a.ViH1and my motherאִמִּ֗י'i.MiH517and my brothersאַחַי֙'a.ChaiH251and my sistersאַחְיוֹתַ֔י'a.cho.taiH269,with allכָּל־kol-H3605whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834belong to them, and deliverוְהִצַּלְתֶּ֥םve.hi.tzal.TemH5337ourlivesנַפְשֹׁתֵ֖ינוּnaf.sho.Tei.nuH5315from deathמִמָּֽוֶת׃mi.Ma.vetH4194.”

14So the menH376saidוַיֹּ֧אמְרוּvai.Yo.me.ruH559to her, “Ourlifeנַפְשֵׁ֤נוּnaf.She.nuH5315for yours ifאִ֚ם'imH518you do not tellתַגִּ֔ידוּta.Gi.duH5046thisזֶ֑הZehH2088businessדְּבָרֵ֖נוּde.va.Re.nuH1697of ours; and it shall comeוְהָיָ֗הve.ha.YahH1961about when the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068givesבְּתֵת־be.tet-H5414us the landהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776that we willdealוְעָשִׂ֥ינוּve.'a.Si.nuH6213kindlyחֶ֥סֶדChe.sedH2617andfaithfullyוֶאֱמֶֽת׃ve.'e.MetH571with you.”

The Promise to Rahab

15Then she letH3381them downוַתּוֹרִדֵ֥םva.to.ri.DemH3381by a ropeבַּחֶ֖בֶלba.Che.velH2256throughבְּעַ֣דbe.'AdH1157the windowהַֽחַלּ֑וֹןha.cha.LonH2474,for her houseבֵיתָהּ֙vei.TahH1004was on the cityבְּקִ֣ירbe.KirH7023wallהַֽחוֹמָ֔הha.cho.MahH2346,so that she was livingיוֹשָֽׁבֶת׃yo.Sha.vetH3427on the wallוּבַֽחוֹמָ֖הu.va.cho.MahH2346.

16She saidוַתֹּ֤אמֶרva.To.merH559to them, “Goלֵּ֔כוּLe.khuH1980to the hillהָהָ֣רָהha.Ha.rahH2022countryH2022,soפֶּֽן־pen-H6435that the pursuersהָרֹדְפִ֑יםha.ro.de.FimH7291will not happenיִפְגְּע֥וּyif.ge.'UH6293upon you, and hideוְנַחְבֵּתֶ֨םve.nach.be.TemH2247yourselves thereשָׁ֜מָּהSha.mahH8033for threeשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁתshe.Lo.shetH7969daysיָמִ֗יםya.MimH3117untilעַ֚ד'adH5704the pursuersהָרֹֽדְפִ֔יםha.ro.de.FimH7291returnשׁ֣וֹבShovH7725.Then afterwardוְאַחַ֖רve.'a.CharH310you may goתֵּלְכ֥וּte.le.KhuH1980on your wayלְדַרְכְּכֶֽם׃le.dar.ke.KhemH1870.”

17The menH376saidוַיֹּאמְר֥וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to her, “We shall befreeנְקִיִּ֣םne.ki.YimH5355from thisהַזֶּ֖הha.ZehH2088oathמִשְּׁבֻעָתֵ֥ךְmi.she.vu.'a.TekhH7621to you whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834you have made us swearהִשְׁבַּעְתָּֽנוּ׃hish.ba'.Ta.nuH7650,

18unlessהִנֵּ֛הhi.NehH2009,when we comeבָאִ֖יםva.'ImH935into the landבָּאָ֑רֶץba.'A.retzH776,you tieתִּקְשְׁרִ֗יtik.she.RiH7194thisהַזֶּ֜הha.ZehH2088cordתִּקְוַ֡תtik.VatH8615of scarletהַשָּׁנִ֨יha.sha.NiH8144threadחוּט֩chutH2339in the windowבַּֽחַלּוֹן֙ba.cha.lOnH2474through whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834you letH3381us downהוֹרַדְתֵּ֣נוּho.rad.Te.nuH3381, andgatherתַּאַסְפִ֥יta.'as.FiH622to yourself into the houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004your fatherאָבִ֨יךְ'a.VikhH1and your motherאִמֵּ֜ךְ'i.MekhH517and your brothersאַחַ֗יִךְ'a.Cha.yikhH251and allכָּל־kol-H3605your father’sאָבִ֔יךְ'a.VikhH1householdהַבָּֽיְתָה׃ha.Ba.ye.tahH1004.

19It shall comeH1961about that anyoneכֹּ֣לkolH3605whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834goesיֵצֵא֩ye.Tze'H3318out of the doorsמִדַּלְתֵ֨יmi.dal.TeiH1817of your houseבֵיתֵ֧ךְ׀vei.TekhH1004into the streetהַח֛וּצָהha.Chu.tzahH2351,his bloodדָּמ֥וֹda.MoH1818shall beon his own headבְרֹאשׁ֖וֹve.ro.ShoH7218, and we shall befreeנְקִיִּ֑םne.ki.YimH5355;but anyoneוְ֠כֹלVe.kholH3605whoאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834is with you in the houseבַּבַּ֔יִתba.Ba.yitH1004,his bloodדָּמ֣וֹda.MoH1818shall beon our headבְרֹאשֵׁ֔נוּve.ro.She.nuH7218ifאִם־'im-H518a handיָ֖דyadH3027is laid on him.

20But ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518you tellתַּגִּ֖ידִיta.Gi.diH5046thisזֶ֑הZehH2088businessדְּבָרֵ֣נוּde.va.Re.nuH1697of ours, then we shall be freeנְקִיִּ֔םne.ki.YimH5355from the oathמִשְּׁבֻעָתֵ֖ךְmi.she.vu.'a.TekhH7621whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834you have made us swearהִשְׁבַּעְתָּֽנוּ׃hish.ba'.Ta.nuH7650.”

21She saidוַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙va.To.merH559, “According to your wordsכְּדִבְרֵיכֶ֣םke.div.rei.KhemH1697,soכֶּן־ken-H3651be it.” So she sentH7971them awayH7971,and they departedוַיֵּלֵ֑כוּvai.ye.Le.khuH1980;and she tiedוַתִּקְשֹׁ֛רva.tik.ShorH7194the scarletהַשָּׁנִ֖יha.sha.NiH8144cordתִּקְוַ֥תtik.VatH8615in the windowבַּחַלּֽוֹן׃ba.cha.LonH2474.

22They departedוַיֵּלְכוּ֙vai.ye.le.KhuH1980and cameוַיָּבֹ֣אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935to the hillהָהָ֔רָהha.Ha.rahH2022countryH2022,and remainedוַיֵּ֤שְׁבוּvai.Ye.she.vuH3427thereשָׁם֙shamH8033for threeשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁתshe.Lo.shetH7969daysיָמִ֔יםya.MimH3117untilעַד־'ad-H5704the pursuersהָרֹדְפִ֑יםha.ro.de.FimH7291returnedשָׁ֖בוּSha.vuH7725.Now the pursuersהָרֹדְפִ֛יםha.ro.de.FimH7291had soughtוַיְבַקְשׁ֧וּvay.vak.ShuH1245themallבְּכָל־be.kholH3605along the roadהַדֶּ֖רֶךְha.De.rekhH1870,but had not foundמָצָֽאוּ׃ma.Tza.'uH4672them.

23Then the twoשְׁנֵ֤יshe.NeiH8147menH376returnedוַיָּשֻׁ֜בוּvai.ya.Shu.vuH7725and cameH3381downוַיֵּרְד֣וּvai.ye.re.DuH3381from the hillמֵֽהָהָ֔רme.ha.HarH2022countryH2022and crossedH5674overH5674and cameוַיָּבֹ֔אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935to Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091the sonבִּן־bin-H1121of Nunנ֑וּןNunH5126,and they relatedוַיְסַ֨פְּרוּ־vay.Sa.pe.ru-H5608to him allכָּל־kol-H3605that had happenedהַמֹּצְא֖וֹתha.mo.tze.'otH4672to them.

24They saidוַיֹּאמְרוּ֙vai.yo.me.RuH559to Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091, “Surelyכִּֽי־ki-H3588the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068has givenנָתַ֧ןna.TanH5414allכָּל־kol-H3605the landהָאָ֑רֶץha.'A.retzH776into our handsבְּיָדֵ֖נוּbe.ya.De.nuH3027;moreoverוְגַם־ve.gam-H1571,allכָּל־kol-H3605the inhabitantsיֹשְׁבֵ֥יyo.she.VeiH3427of the landהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776havemeltedH4127awayנָמֹ֛גוּna.Mo.guH4127beforeמִפָּנֵֽינוּ׃ סmi.pa.Nei.nuH4480 H6440us.”
