21When Joshuaוִיהוֹשֻׁ֨עַvi.ho.Shu.a'H3091and allוְכָֽל־ve.kholH3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֜לYis.ra.'ElH3478sawרָא֗וּra.'UH7200that the men inambushהָֽאֹרֵב֙ha.'o.RevH693had capturedלָכַ֤דla.KhadH3920the cityהָעִ֔ירha.'IrH5892and that the smokeעֲשַׁ֣ן'a.ShanH6227of the cityהָעִ֑ירha.'IrH5892ascendedעָלָ֖ה'a.LahH5927,they turnedH7725backוַיָּשֻׁ֕בוּvai.ya.Shu.vuH7725andslewוַיַּכּ֖וּvai.ya.KuH5221the menH376of Aiהָעָֽי׃ha.'AiH5857.

22The othersוְאֵ֨לֶּהve.'E.lehH428cameיָצְא֤וּya.tze.'UH3318out from the cityהָעִיר֙ha.'IrH5892to encounterלִקְרָאתָ֔םlik.ra.TamH7122them, so that they were trappedin the midstבַּתָּ֔וֶךְba.Ta.vekhH8432of Israelלְיִשְׂרָאֵל֙le.Yis.ra.'ElH3478,someאֵ֥לֶּה'E.lehH428on thisH2088sideH2088and someוְאֵ֣לֶּהve.'E.lehH428on that sideH2088; and theyslewוַיַּכּ֣וּvai.ya.KuH5221them untilעַד־'ad-H5704noבִּלְתִּ֥יbil.TiH1115one was leftהִשְׁאִֽיר־hish.'ir-H7604of those whoH8300survivedH8300or escapedוּפָלִֽיט׃u.fa.LitH6412.

23But they tookתָּ֣פְשׂוּTa.fe.suH8610aliveחָ֑יChaiH2416the kingמֶ֥לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Aiהָעַ֖יha.'AiH5857and broughtוַיַּקְרִ֥בוּvai.yak.Ri.vuH7126him to Joshuaיְהוֹשֻֽׁעַ׃ye.ho.Shu.a'H3091.

24Now when Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֡לYis.ra.'ElH3478had finishedכְּכַלּ֣וֹתke.kha.LotH3615killingלַהֲרֹג֩la.ha.RogH2026allכָּל־kol-H3605the inhabitantsיֹשְׁבֵ֨יyo.she.VeiH3427of Aiהָעַ֜יha.'AiH5857in the fieldבַּשָּׂדֶ֗הba.sa.DehH7704in the wildernessבַּמִּדְבָּר֙ba.mid.BarH4057whereאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834they pursuedרְדָפ֣וּםre.da.FumH7291them, and allכֻלָּ֛םkhu.LamH3605of them were fallenוַֽיִּפְּל֥וּvai.yi.pe.LuH5307by the edgeלְפִי־le.fi-H6310of the swordחֶ֖רֶבChe.revH2719untilעַד־'ad-H5704they were destroyedתֻּמָּ֑םtu.MamH8552,then allכָל־khol-H3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478returnedוַיָּשֻׁ֤בוּvai.ya.Shu.vuH7725to Aiהָעַ֔יha.'AiH5857and struckוַיַּכּ֥וּvai.ya.KuH5221it with the edgeלְפִי־le.fi-H6310of the swordחָֽרֶב׃Cha.revH2719.
