20And when the menאַנְשֵׁי֩'an.SheiH582of Aiהָעַ֨יha.'AiH5857lookedוַיִּפְנ֣וּvai.yif.NuH6437behindאַחֲרֵיהֶ֜ם'a.cha.rei.HemH310them, they sawוַיִּרְא֗וּvai.yir.'UH7200,and, behold, the smokeעֲשַׁ֤ן'a.ShanH6227of the cityהָעִיר֙ha.'IrH5892ascended upעָלָ֜ה'a.LahH5927to heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יְמָהha.sha.May.mahH8064,and they had no powerיָדַ֛יִםya.Da.yimH3027to fleeלָנ֖וּסla.NusH5127this way or that wayH2008:and the peopleוְהָעָם֙ve.ha.'AmH5971that fledהַנָּ֣סha.NasH5127to the wildernessהַמִּדְבָּ֔רha.mid.BarH4057turned backנֶהְפַּ֖ךְneh.PakhH2015upon the pursuersהָרוֹדֵֽף׃ha.ro.DefH7291.

21And when Joshuaוִיהוֹשֻׁ֨עַvi.ho.Shu.a'H3091and all Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֜לYis.ra.'ElH3478sawרָא֗וּra.'UH7200that the ambushהָֽאֹרֵב֙ha.'o.RevH693had takenלָכַ֤דla.KhadH3920the cityהָעִ֔ירha.'IrH5892,and that the smokeעֲשַׁ֣ן'a.ShanH6227of the cityהָעִ֑ירha.'IrH5892ascendedעָלָ֖ה'a.LahH5927,then they turned againוַיָּשֻׁ֕בוּvai.ya.Shu.vuH7725,and slewוַיַּכּ֖וּvai.ya.KuH5221the menאַנְשֵׁ֥י'an.SheiH582of Aiהָעָֽי׃ha.'AiH5857.

22And the otherH428issued outיָצְא֤וּya.tze.'UH3318of the cityהָעִיר֙ha.'IrH5892againstH7125them; so they were in the midstבַּתָּ֔וֶךְba.Ta.vekhH8432of Israelלְיִשְׂרָאֵל֙le.Yis.ra.'ElH3478,some on this side, and some on that side: and they smoteוַיַּכּ֣וּvai.ya.KuH5221them, so thatעַד־'ad-H5704they letהִשְׁאִֽיר־hish.'ir-H7604none of them remainשָׂרִ֥ידsa.RidH8300or escapeוּפָלִֽיט׃u.fa.LitH6412.

23And the kingמֶ֥לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Aiהָעַ֖יha.'AiH5857they tookתָּ֣פְשׂוּTa.fe.suH8610aliveחָ֑יChaiH2416,and broughtוַיַּקְרִ֥בוּvai.yak.Ri.vuH7126him to Joshuaיְהוֹשֻֽׁעַ׃ye.ho.Shu.a'H3091.

24And it came to pass, when Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֡לYis.ra.'ElH3478had made an endכְּכַלּ֣וֹתke.kha.LotH3615of slayingלַהֲרֹג֩la.ha.RogH2026all the inhabitantsיֹשְׁבֵ֨יyo.she.VeiH3427of Aiהָעַ֜יha.'AiH5857in the fieldבַּשָּׂדֶ֗הba.sa.DehH7704,in the wildernessבַּמִּדְבָּר֙ba.mid.BarH4057wherein they chasedרְדָפ֣וּםre.da.FumH7291them, and when they were all fallenוַֽיִּפְּל֥וּvai.yi.pe.LuH5307on the edgeלְפִי־le.fi-H6310of the swordחֶ֖רֶבChe.revH2719,until they were consumedתֻּמָּ֑םtu.MamH8552,that all the Israelitesיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478returnedוַיָּשֻׁ֤בוּvai.ya.Shu.vuH7725unto Aiהָעַ֔יha.'AiH5857,and smoteוַיַּכּ֥וּvai.ya.KuH5221it with the edgeלְפִי־le.fi-H6310of the swordחָֽרֶב׃Cha.revH2719.
