1Now when the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971sawוַיַּ֣רְאvai.Yar'H7200that Mosesמֹשֶׁ֖הmo.ShehH4872delayedבֹשֵׁ֥שׁvo.SheshH954to comeלָרֶ֣דֶתla.Re.detH3381downH3381from the mountainהָהָ֑רha.HarH2022,the peopleהָעָ֜םha.'AmH5971assembledוַיִּקָּהֵ֨לvai.yi.ka.HelH6950aboutעַֽל־'al-H5921Aaronאַהֲרֹ֗ן'a.ha.RonH175and saidוַיֹּאמְר֤וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to him, “Comeק֣וּם׀kumH6965,makeעֲשֵׂה־'a.seh-H6213usa godאֱלֹהִ֗ים'E.lo.HimH430whoאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834will goיֵֽלְכוּ֙ye.le.KhuH1980beforeלְפָנֵ֔ינוּle.fa.Nei.nuH6440us; as forthisזֶ֣ה׀zehH2088Mosesמֹשֶׁ֣הmo.ShehH4872,the manהָאִ֗ישׁha.'IshH376whoאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834broughtהֶֽעֱלָ֙נוּ֙he.'e.La.nuH5927us up from the landמֵאֶ֣רֶץme.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרַ֔יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714,we do not knowיָדַ֖עְנוּya.Da'.nuH3045whatמֶה־meh-H4100has becomeהָ֥יָהHa.yahH1961of him.”

2Aaronאַהֲרֹ֔ן'a.ha.RonH175saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to them, “Tearפָּֽרְקוּ֙pa.re.KuH6561offH6561the goldהַזָּהָ֔בha.za.HavH2091ringsנִזְמֵ֣יniz.MeiH5141whichאֲשֶׁר֙'a.SherH834are in the earsבְּאָזְנֵ֣יbe.'a.ze.NeiH241of your wivesנְשֵׁיכֶ֔םne.shei.KhemH802,your sonsבְּנֵיכֶ֖םbe.nei.KhemH1121,and your daughtersוּבְנֹתֵיכֶ֑םu.ve.no.tei.KhemH1323,and bringוְהָבִ֖יאוּve.ha.Vi.'uH935them to me.”

3Then allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971toreH6561offH6561the goldהַזָּהָ֖בha.za.HavH2091ringsנִזְמֵ֥יniz.MeiH5141whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834were in their earsבְּאָזְנֵיהֶ֑םbe.'a.ze.nei.HemH241and broughtוַיָּבִ֖יאוּvai.ya.Vi.'uH935themto Aaronאַהֲרֹֽן׃'a.ha.RonH175.

4He tookוַיִּקַּ֣חvai.yi.KachH3947thisfrom their handמִיָּדָ֗םmi.ya.DamH3027,and fashionedוַיָּ֤צַרvai.Ya.tzarH6696it with a gravingH2747toolH2747and madeוַֽיַּעֲשֵׂ֖הוּvai.ya.'a.Se.huH6213it into amoltenמַסֵּכָ֑הma.se.KhahH4541calfעֵ֣גֶל'E.gelH5695;and they saidוַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559, “Thisאֵ֤לֶּה'E.lehH428is your godאֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙'e.lo.Hei.khaH430,O Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478,whoאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834broughtהֶעֱל֖וּךָhe.'e.Lu.khaH5927you up from the landמֵאֶ֥רֶץme.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרָֽיִם׃mitz.Ra.yimH4714.”

5Now when Aaronאַהֲרֹ֔ן'a.ha.RonH175sawוַיַּ֣רְאvai.Yar'H7200this,he builtוַיִּ֥בֶןvai.Yi.venH1129an altarמִזְבֵּ֖חַmiz.Be.achH4196beforeלְפָנָ֑יוle.fa.NavH6440it; and Aaronאַֽהֲרֹן֙'a.ha.RonH175madeH7121a proclamationH7121and saidוַיֹּאמַ֔רvai.yo.MarH559, “Tomorrowמָחָֽר׃ma.CharH4279shall bea feastחַ֥גchagH2282to the Lordלַיהוָ֖הla.Yah.wehH3068.”

6So the nextמִֽמָּחֳרָ֔תmi.mo.cho.RatH4283dayH4283they roseH7965earlyוַיַּשְׁכִּ֙ימוּ֙vai.yash.Ki.muH7925andofferedוַיַּעֲל֣וּvai.ya.'a.LuH5927burntעֹלֹ֔ת'o.LotH5930offeringsH5930,and broughtוַיַּגִּ֖שׁוּvai.ya.Gi.shuH5066peaceשְׁלָמִ֑יםshe.la.MimH8002offeringsH8002; andthe peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971satH3427downוַיֵּ֤שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427to eatלֶֽאֱכֹ֣לle.'e.KholH398and to drinkוְשָׁת֔וֹve.sha.ToH8354,and roseH6925upto playלְצַחֵֽק׃ פle.tza.ChekH6711.

7Then the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068spokeוַיְדַבֵּ֥רvay.da.BerH1696to Mosesמֹשֶׁ֑הmo.ShehH4872, “Goלֶךְ־lekh-H1980downH1980 H3381at onceH3381,for your peopleעַמְּךָ֔'a.me.KhaH5971,whomאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834you broughtהֶעֱלֵ֖יתָhe.'e.Lei.taH5927up from the landמֵאֶ֥רֶץme.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרָֽיִם׃mitz.Ra.yimH4714, havecorruptedשִׁחֵ֣תshi.ChetH7843themselves.

8They have quicklyמַהֵ֗רma.HerH4118turnedH5493asideסָ֣רוּSa.ruH5493from the wayהַדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ha.De.rekhH1870whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834I commandedצִוִּיתִ֔םtzi.vi.TimH6680them.They have madeעָשׂ֣וּ'a.SuH6213for themselves a moltenמַסֵּכָ֑הma.se.KhahH4541calfעֵ֖גֶל'E.gelH5695,and have worshipedוַיִּשְׁתַּֽחֲווּ־vai.yish.ta.cha.vu-H7812it andhave sacrificedוַיִּזְבְּחוּ־vai.yiz.be.chu-H2076to it and saidוַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559, ‘Thisאֵ֤לֶּה'E.lehH428is your godאֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙'e.lo.Hei.khaH430,O Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478,whoאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834broughtהֶֽעֱל֖וּךָhe.'e.Lu.khaH5927you up from the landמֵאֶ֥רֶץme.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרָֽיִם׃mitz.Ra.yimH4714!’”

9The Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Mosesמֹשֶׁ֑הmo.ShehH4872, “I have seenרָאִ֙יתִי֙ra.'I.tiH7200thisהַזֶּ֔הha.ZehH2088peopleהָעָ֣םha.'AmH5971,and beholdוְהִנֵּ֥הve.hi.NehH2009, they arean obstinateקְשֵׁה־ עֹ֖רֶףke.sheh- 'O.refH7186 H6203peopleעַם־'am-H5971.

10Nowוְעַתָּה֙ve.'a.TahH6258thenletH5117Me aloneהַנִּ֣יחָהha.Ni.chahH5117,that My angerאַפִּ֥י'a.PiH639may burnוְיִֽחַר־ve.yi.char-H2734against them and that I may destroyוַאֲכַלֵּ֑םva.'a.kha.LemH3615them; andI will makeוְאֶֽעֱשֶׂ֥הve.'e.'e.SehH6213of you a greatגָּדֽוֹל׃ga.DolH1419nationלְג֥וֹיle.GoyH1471.”

11ThenMosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872entreatedוַיְחַ֣לvay.ChalH2470the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068his Godאֱלֹהָ֑יו'e.lo.HavH430,and saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “O Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068,whyלָמָ֤הla.MahH4100does Your angerאַפְּךָ֙'a.pe.KhaH639burnיֶחֱרֶ֤הye.che.RehH2734against Your peopleבְּעַמֶּ֔ךָbe.'a.Me.khaH5971whomאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834You have broughtהוֹצֵ֙אתָ֙ho.Tze.taH3318out from the landמֵאֶ֣רֶץme.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרַ֔יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714with greatגָּד֖וֹלga.DolH1419powerבְּכֹ֥חַbe.Kho.achH3581and with a mightyחֲזָקָֽה׃cha.za.KahH2389handוּבְיָ֥דu.ve.YadH3027?

12Whyלָמָּה֩la.MahH4100shouldthe EgyptiansH4714speakיֹאמְר֨וּyo.me.RuH559,sayingלֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559, ‘With evilH7463intentHe broughtהֽוֹצִיאָם֙ho.tzi.'AmH3318them out to killלַהֲרֹ֤גla.ha.RogH2026them in the mountainsבֶּֽהָרִ֔יםbe.ha.RimH2022and to destroyוּ֨לְכַלֹּתָ֔םu.le.kha.lo.TamH3615them from the faceפְּנֵ֣יpe.NeiH6440of the earthהָֽאֲדָמָ֑הha.'a.da.MahH127’?Turnשׁ֚וּבShuvH7725from Your burningמֵחֲר֣וֹןme.cha.RonH2740angerאַפֶּ֔ךָ'a.Pe.khaH639and changeH5162Your mindH5162aboutH5921doingharmH7463to Your peopleלְעַמֶּֽךָ׃le.'a.Me.khaH5971.

13Rememberזְכֹ֡רze.KhorH2142Abrahamלְאַבְרָהָם֩le.'av.ra.HamH85,Isaacלְיִצְחָ֨קle.yitz.ChakH3327,and Israelוּלְיִשְׂרָאֵ֜לu.le.Yis.ra.'ElH3478,Your servantsעֲבָדֶ֗יךָ'a.va.Dei.khaH5650to whomאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834Yousworeנִשְׁבַּ֣עְתָּnish.Ba'.taH7650by Yourself, and saidוַתְּדַבֵּ֣רva.te.da.BerH1696to them, ‘I willmultiplyאַרְבֶּה֙'ar.BehH7235yourdescendantsזַרְעֲכֶ֔םzar.'a.KhemH2233as the starsכְּכוֹכְבֵ֖יke.chokh.VeiH3556of the heavensהַשָּׁמָ֑יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064, andallוְכָל־ve.kholH3605thisH2088landהָאָ֨רֶץha.'A.retzH776of whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834I have spokenאָמַ֗רְתִּי'a.Mar.tiH559I will giveאֶתֵּן֙'e.TenH5414to yourdescendantsלְזַרְעֲכֶ֔םle.zar.'a.KhemH2233,and they shall inheritוְנָחֲל֖וּve.na.cha.LuH5157itforeverלְעֹלָֽם׃le.'o.LamH5769.’”

14So the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068changedH5162His mindH5162aboutעַל־'al-H5921the harmH7463whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834He saidדִּבֶּ֖רdi.BerH1696He would doלַעֲשׂ֥וֹתla.'a.SotH6213to His peopleלְעַמּֽוֹ׃ פle.'a.MoH5971.

15Then Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872turnedוַיִּ֜פֶןvai.Yi.fenH6437and wentH3381downוַיֵּ֤רֶדvai.Ye.redH3381from the mountainהָהָ֔רha.HarH2022with the twoוּשְׁנֵ֛יu.she.NeiH8147tabletsלֻחֹ֥תlu.ChotH3871of the testimonyהָעֵדֻ֖תha.'e.DutH5715in his handבְּיָד֑וֹbe.ya.DoH3027,tabletsלֻחֹ֗תlu.ChotH3871which were writtenכְּתֻבִים֙ke.tu.VimH3789on bothמִשְּׁנֵ֣יmi.she.NeiH8147sidesעֶבְרֵיהֶ֔ם'ev.rei.HemH5676;they were writtenכְּתֻבִֽים׃ke.tu.VimH3789on oneמִזֶּ֥הmi.ZehH2088sideand the otherוּמִזֶּ֖הu.mi.ZehH2088.

16The tabletsוְהַ֨לֻּחֹ֔תve.Ha.lu.ChotH3871were God’sאֱלֹהִ֖ים'E.lo.HimH430workמַעֲשֵׂ֥הma.'a.SehH4639,and the writingוְהַמִּכְתָּ֗בve.ha.mikh.TavH4385was God’sאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430writingמִכְתַּ֤בmikh.TavH4385engravedחָר֖וּתcha.RutH2801on the tabletsהַלֻּחֹֽת׃ha.lu.ChotH3871.

17Now when Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091heardוַיִּשְׁמַ֧עvai.yish.Ma'H8085the soundק֥וֹלKolH6963of the peopleהָעָ֖םha.'AmH5971as they shoutedבְּרֵע֑וֹbe.re.'OH7452,he saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559to Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872, “There is a soundק֥וֹלKolH6963of warמִלְחָמָ֖הmil.cha.MahH4421in the campבַּֽמַּחֲנֶה׃Ba.ma.cha.nehH4264.”

18But he saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “It is not the soundקוֹל֙kOlH6963of the cryH6031of triumphגְּבוּרָ֔הge.vu.RahH1369,NorH369is it the soundק֖וֹלKolH6963of the cryH6031of defeatחֲלוּשָׁ֑הcha.lu.ShahH2476;But the soundק֣וֹלKolH6963of singingH6031I hearשֹׁמֵֽעַ׃sho.Me.a'H8085.”

19It cameוַֽיְהִ֗יvay.HiH1961about, as soonH3512asMoses cameH7126nearH7126the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔הha.ma.cha.NehH4264, thathe sawוַיַּ֥רְאvai.Yar'H7200the calfהָעֵ֖גֶלha.'E.gelH5695and thedancingוּמְחֹלֹ֑תu.me.cho.LotH4246;and Moses’מֹשֶׁ֗הmo.ShehH4872angerאַ֣ף'afH639burnedוַיִּֽחַר־vai.yi.char-H2734, andhe threwוַיַּשְׁלֵ֤ךְvai.yash.LekhH7993the tabletsהַלֻּחֹ֔תha.lu.ChotH3871from his handsמִיָּדָיו֙mi.ya.dovH3027and shatteredוַיְשַׁבֵּ֥רvay.sha.BerH7665themat the footתַּ֥חַתTa.chatH8478of the mountainהָהָֽר׃ha.HarH2022.

20He tookוַיִּקַּ֞חvai.yi.KachH3947the calfהָעֵ֨גֶלha.'E.gelH5695whichאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834they had madeעָשׂוּ֙'a.SuH6213and burnedוַיִּשְׂרֹ֣ףvai.yis.RofH8313itwith fireבָּאֵ֔שׁba.'EshH784,and groundוַיִּטְחַ֖ןvai.yit.ChanH2912it to powderאֲשֶׁר־ דָּ֑ק'a.Sher- DakH834 H1854,and scatteredוַיִּ֙זֶר֙vai.Yi.zerH2219it overעַל־'al-H5921the surfaceפְּנֵ֣יpe.NeiH6440of the waterהַמַּ֔יִםha.Ma.yimH4325and made the sonsבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478drinkוַיַּ֖שְׁקְvai.YashkH8248it.

21Then Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Aaronאַהֲרֹ֔ן'a.ha.RonH175, “Whatמֶֽה־meh-H4100did thisהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088peopleהָעָ֣םha.'AmH5971doעָשָׂ֥ה'a.SahH6213to you, that you have broughtהֵבֵ֥אתָhe.Ve.taH935suchgreatגְדֹלָֽה׃ge.do.LahH1419sinחֲטָאָ֥הcha.ta.'AhH2401upon them?”

22Aaronאַהֲרֹ֔ן'a.ha.RonH175saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Do not let the angerאַ֖ף'afH639of my lordאֲדֹנִ֑י'a.do.NiH113burnיִ֥חַרYi.charH2734;you knowיָדַ֣עְתָּya.Da'.taH3045the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971yourselfאַתָּה֙'a.TahH859, that they areprone to evilבְרָ֖עve.Ra'H7451.

23Forthey saidוַיֹּ֣אמְרוּvai.Yo.me.ruH559to me, ‘Makeעֲשֵׂה־'a.seh-H6213a godאֱלֹהִ֔ים'E.lo.HimH430for us whoאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834will goיֵלְכ֖וּye.le.KhuH1980beforeלְפָנֵ֑ינוּle.fa.Nei.nuH6440us; for thisזֶ֣ה׀zehH2088Mosesמֹשֶׁ֣הmo.ShehH4872,the manהָאִ֗ישׁha.'IshH376whoאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834broughtהֶֽעֱלָ֙נוּ֙he.'e.La.nuH5927us up from the landמֵאֶ֣רֶץme.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרַ֔יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714,we do not knowיָדַ֖עְנוּya.Da'.nuH3045whatמֶה־meh-H4100has becomeהָ֥יָהHa.yahH1961of him.’

24I saidוָאֹמַ֤רva.'o.MarH559to them, ‘Whoeverלְמִ֣יle.MiH4310has any goldזָהָ֔בza.HavH2091,let them tearהִתְפָּרָ֖קוּhit.pa.Ra.kuH6561it offH6561.’So they gaveוַיִּתְּנוּ־vai.yi.te.nu-H5414it to me, andI threwוָאַשְׁלִכֵ֣הוּva.'ash.li.Khe.huH7993it into the fireבָאֵ֔שׁva.'EshH784,and out cameוַיֵּצֵ֖אvai.ye.Tze'H3318thisהַזֶּֽה׃ha.ZehH2088calfהָעֵ֥גֶלha.'E.gelH5695.”
