Revelation 18:4-20
4I heard another voice from heaven, saying, “1Come out of her, my people, so that you will not participate in her sins and receive of her plagues; 5for her sins have 23piled up as high as heaven, and God has 4remembered her iniquities. 65Pay her back even as she has paid, and 6give back to her double according to her deeds; in the 7cup which she has mixed, mix twice as much for her. 78To the degree that she glorified herself and 9lived 10sensuously, to the same degree give her torment and mourning; for she says in her heart, ‘11I sit as a queen and I am not a widow, and will never see mourning.’ 8For this reason 12in one day her plagues will come, 13pestilence and mourning and famine, and she will be 14burned up with fire; for the Lord God who judges her 15is strong.
9“And 16the kings of the earth, who committed acts of immorality and 17lived 18sensuously with her, will 19weep and lament over her when they 20see the smoke of her burning, 1021standing at a distance because of the fear of her torment, saying, ‘22Woe, woe, 23the great city, Babylon, the strong city! For in 24one hour your judgment has come.’
11“And the 25merchants of the earth 26weep and mourn over her, because no one buys their cargoes any more-- 12cargoes of 27gold and silver and precious 28stones and pearls and fine linen and purple and silk and scarlet, and every kind of citron wood and every article of ivory and every article made from very costly wood and 29bronze and iron and marble, 13and cinnamon and 30spice and incense and perfume and frankincense and wine and olive oil and fine flour and wheat and cattle and sheep, and cargoes of horses and chariots and 31slaves and 3233human lives. 14The fruit 34you long for has gone from you, and all things that were luxurious and splendid have passed away from you and men will no longer find them. 15The 35merchants of 36these things, who became rich from her, will 37stand at a distance because of the fear of her torment, weeping and mourning, 16saying, ‘38Woe, woe, 39the great city, she who 40was clothed in fine linen and purple and scarlet, and 41adorned with gold and precious 42stones and pearls; 17for in 43one hour such great wealth has been laid 44waste!’ And 45every shipmaster and every 46passenger and sailor, and as many as make their living by the sea, 47stood at a distance, 18and were 48crying out as they 49saw the smoke of her burning, saying, ‘50What city is like 51the great city?’ 19And they threw 52dust on their heads and were crying out, weeping and mourning, saying, ‘53Woe, woe, the great city, in which all who had ships at sea 54became rich by her 55wealth, for in 56one hour she has been laid 57waste!’ 2058Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you 59saints and 60apostles and prophets, because 61God has 62pronounced judgment for you against her.”
