Revelation 18:4-20
4I heard another voice from heaven, saying, “1Come out of her, my people, so that you will not participate in her sins and receive any of her plagues; 5for her sins have 23piled up as high as heaven, and God has 4remembered her offenses. 65Pay her back even as she has paid, and 6give back to her double according to her deeds; in the 7cup which she has mixed, mix twice as much for her. 78To the extent that she glorified herself and 9lived luxuriously, to the same extent give her torment and mourning; for she says in her heart, ‘10I sit as a queen and I am not a widow, and will never see mourning.’ 8For this reason 11in one day her plagues will come, 12plague and mourning and famine, and she will be 13burned up with fire; for the Lord God who judges her 14is strong.
9“And 15the kings of the earth, who committed acts of sexual immorality and 16lived luxuriously with her, will 17weep and mourn over her when they 18see the smoke of her burning, 1019standing at a distance because of the fear of her torment, saying, ‘20Woe, woe, 21the great city, Babylon, the strong city! For in 22one hour your judgment has come.’
11“And the 23merchants of the earth 24weep and mourn over her, because no one buys their cargo any more-- 12cargo of 25gold, silver, precious 26stones, and pearls; fine linen, purple, silk, and scarlet; every kind of citron wood, every article of ivory, and every article made from very valuable wood, 27bronze, iron, and marble; 13cinnamon, 28spice, incense, perfume, frankincense, wine, olive oil, fine flour, wheat, cattle, sheep, and cargo of horses, carriages, 29slaves, and 30human lives. 14The fruit 31you long for has left you, and all things that were luxurious and splendid have passed away from you and people will no longer find them. 15The 32merchants of 33these things, who became rich from her, will 34stand at a distance because of the fear of her torment, weeping and mourning, 16saying, ‘35Woe, woe, 36the great city, she who 37was clothed in fine linen and purple and scarlet, and 38adorned with gold, precious 39stones, and pearls; 17for in 40one hour such great wealth has been laid 41waste!’ And 42every shipmaster and every 43passenger and sailor, and all who 44make their living by the sea, 45stood at a distance, 18and were 46crying out as they 47saw the smoke of her burning, saying, ‘48What city is like 49the great city?’ 19And they threw 50dust on their heads and were crying out, weeping and mourning, saying, ‘51Woe, woe, the great city, in which all who had ships at sea 52became rich from her prosperity, for in 53one hour she has been laid 54waste!’ 2055Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you 56saints and 57apostles and prophets, because 58God has 59pronounced judgment for you against her.”
