Joshua 7:1-9
The IsraelitesH1121, howeverH3478, actedH4603 unfaithfullyH4604 regarding the things devoted to destructionH2764.1 AchanH59122 sonH1121 of CarmiH3756, the sonH1121 of ZabdiH2067,3 the sonH1121 of ZerahH2226, of the tribeH4294 of JudahH3063, tookH3947 some ofH4480 what was set apartH2764. So the angerH639 of the LORDH3068 burnedH2734 against the IsraelitesH1121H3478.
Meanwhile, JoshuaH3091 sentH7971 menH582 from JerichoH3405 to AiH5857, whichH834 is nearH5973 Beth-avenH1007 to the eastH6924 of BethelH1008, and told themH559H413, “Go upH5927 and spy outH7270 the landH776.” So the menH582 went upH5927 and spied outH7270 AiH5857.
On returningH7725 toH413 JoshuaH3091, they reportedH559H413, “There is no needH408H5927 to send allH3605 the peopleH5971; twoH505 orH176 threeH7969 thousandH505 menH376 are enough to go upH5927 and attackH5221 AiH5857. SinceH3588 the people of AiH1992 are so fewH4592, you need notH408 wear outH3021 allH3605 our peopleH5971 thereH8033.”
So about threeH7969 thousandH505 menH376 went upH5927H4480H5971H8033, but they fledH5127 beforeH6440 the menH582 of AiH5857. 5And the menH376 of AiH5857 struck downH5221H582 about thirty-six of themH7970H8337, chasing themH7291 fromH6440 the gateH8179 as far asH5704 the quarriesH76714 and striking them downH5221 on the slopesH4174. So the heartsH3824 of the peopleH5971 meltedH4549 and becameH1961 like waterH4325.
Then JoshuaH3091 toreH7167 his clothesH8071 and fellH5307 facedownH6440H776 beforeH6440 the arkH727 of the LORDH3068 untilH5704 eveningH6153H1931, as did the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478; and they all sprinkledH5927 dustH6083 onH5921 their headsH7218.
“OH162, LordH136 GODH3069,” JoshuaH3091 saidH559, “whyH4100 did You ever bringH5674 thisH2088 peopleH5971 across the JordanH3383 to deliverH5414 usH853 into the handH3027 of the AmoritesH567 to be destroyedH6? If onlyH3863 we had been contentH2974 to stayH3427 on the other sideH5676 of the JordanH3383! 8OH994 LordH136, whatH4100 can I sayH559, now thatH310 IsraelH3478 has turnedH2015 its backH6203 and run fromH6440 its enemiesH341? 9When the CanaanitesH3669 and allH3605 who liveH3427 in the landH776 hear about thisH8085, they will surroundH5437 usH5921 and wipe outH3772 our nameH8034 fromH4480 the earthH776. Then whatH4100 will You doH6213 for Your greatH1419 nameH8034?”
