Samuel 13:6-29
So AmnonH550 lay downH7901 and feigned illnessH2470. When the kingH4428 cameH935 to see himH7200, AmnonH550 saidH559, “PleaseH4994 let my sisterH269H3823 TamarH8559 comeH935 and make a coupleH8147 of cakesH3834 in my sightH5869, so that I may eatH1262 from her handH3027.”
Then DavidH1732 sentH7971 word toH413 TamarH8559 at the palaceH1004H559: “PleaseH4994 goH1980 to the houseH1004 of AmnonH550 your brotherH251 and prepareH6213 a mealH1279 for him.”
So TamarH8559 wentH1980 to the houseH1004 of her brotherH251 AmnonH550, who was lying downH7901. She tookH3947 some doughH1217, kneadedH3888 it, made cakesH3823 in his sightH5869, and bakedH1310 themH3834. 9Then she broughtH3947 the panH4958 and set it downH3332 before himH6440, but he refusedH3985 to eatH398. “Send everyoneH3605H376H5921 awayH3318!” saidH559 AmnonH550. And everyoneH3605H376H5921 went outH3318.
Then AmnonH550 saidH559 toH413 TamarH8559, “BringH935 the foodH1279 into the bedroomH2315, so that I may eat itH1262 from your handH3027.”
TamarH8559 tookH3947 the cakesH3834 she had madeH6213 and wentH935 to her brotherH251 Amnon’sH550 bedroomH2315. 11And when she had broughtH5066 them to himH413 to eatH398, he took holdH2388 of her and saidH559, “ComeH935 lieH7901 with meH5973, my sisterH269!”
“NoH408, my brotherH251!” she criedH559. “Do notH408 violate meH6031, forH3588 suchH3651 a thing should neverH3808 be doneH6213 in IsraelH3478. Do notH408 doH6213 thisH2063 disgraceful thingH5039! 13WhereH575 could IH589 ever takeH1980 my shameH2781? And youH859 would beH1961 like oneH259 of the foolsH5036 in IsraelH3478H6258! PleaseH4994 speakH1696 toH413 the kingH4428, forH3588 he will notH3808 withhold meH4513 from youH4480.”
But Amnon refusedH3808H14 to listen to herH8085H6963, and being strongerH2388H4480, he violated herH6031 and lay withH7901 herH854.
Then AmnonH550 hatedH8130 Tamar with such intensityH1419H3966 thatH3588 his hatredH8135H8130 was greater thanH1419H8135 the loveH160 he previously hadH157. “Get upH6965!” he saidH559 to her. “Be goneH1980!”
“NoH408H182,” she repliedH559, “sending me awayH7971 is worse thanH312 thisH2063 greatH1419 wrongH7451 you have already doneH6213 to meH5973!”
But he refusedH3808H14 to listenH8085 to her. 17Instead, he calledH7121 to his attendantH5288H8334 and saidH559, “ThrowH7971H4994 thisH2063H5921 woman outH2351 and boltH5274 the doorH1817 behind herH310!”
So Amnon’s attendantH8334 threwH3318 herH853 outH2351 and boltedH5274 the doorH1817 behind herH310. Now Tamar was wearingH5921 a robeH3801 of many colorsH6446,1 becauseH3588 this is whatH3651 the king’sH4428 virginH1330H4598 daughtersH1323 woreH3847. 19And TamarH8559 putH3947 ashesH665 onH5921 her headH7218 and toreH7167 herH834 robeH3801. And puttingH7760 her handH3027 onH5921 her headH7218, she went awayH1980 crying aloudH2199.
Her brotherH251 AbsalomH53 saidH559 to herH413, “Has your brotherH251 AmnonH550 beenH1961 with youH5973? Be quietH2790 for nowH6258, my sisterH269. HeH1931 is your brotherH251. Do notH408 takeH7896 thisH2088 thingH1697 to heartH3820.”
So TamarH8559 livedH3427 as a desolateH8076 woman in the houseH1004 of her brotherH251 AbsalomH53.
When KingH4428 DavidH1732 heardH8085 allH3605 thisH428, he was furiousH2734H3966.2 22And AbsalomH53 neverH3808 said a wordH1696 toH5973 AmnonH550, either goodH2896 or badH7451H5704, becauseH3588 heH53 hatedH8130 AmnonH550 forH5921H1697 violatingH6031 his sisterH269 TamarH8559.
Two years laterH8141H3117H1961, when Absalom’sH53 sheepshearersH1178H1494 wereH1961 at Baal-hazorH1178 nearH5973 EphraimH669, he invitedH7121 allH3605 the sonsH1121 of the kingH4428. 24And heH53 wentH935 toH413 the kingH4428 and saidH559, “Your servantH5650 has justH2009 hired shearersH1494. Will the kingH4428 and his servantsH5650 pleaseH4994 comeH1980 withH5973 me?”
“NoH408, my sonH1121,” the kingH4428 repliedH559, “we should notH408H4994 allH3605 goH1980, orH3808 we would be a burdenH3513 to youH5921.” Although Absalom urgedH6555 him, he was notH3808 willingH14 to goH1980, but gave him his blessingH1288.
“If notH3808,” saidH559 AbsalomH53, “pleaseH4994 let my brotherH251 AmnonH550 goH1980 with usH854.”
“WhyH4100 should he goH1980 with youH5973?” the kingH4428 askedH559.
But AbsalomH53 urgedH6555 him, so the king sentH7971H854 AmnonH550 and the restH3605 ofH4428 his sonsH1121.3
Now AbsalomH53 had orderedH6680 his young menH5288, “WatchH7200 AmnonH550 untilH4994 his heartH3820 is merryH2895 with wineH3196, and when I orderH559 youH413 to strikeH5221 Amnon downH550, you are to kill himH4191. Do notH408 be afraidH3372. HaveH3588 IH595 notH3808 commandedH6680 youH853? Be courageousH2388 andH1961 valiantH2428!”
So Absalom’sH53 young menH5288 didH6213 to AmnonH550 just asH834 AbsalomH53 had orderedH6680. Then allH3605 the other sonsH1121 of the kingH4428H7392 got upH6965, and each oneH376 fledH5127 onH5921 his muleH6505.
