Babylon Controls Jehoiakim

1During Jehoiakim’s reignH3117, NebuchadnezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894 invadedH5927. So JehoiakimH3079 becameH1961 his vassalH5650 for threeH7969 yearsH8141, until he turnedH7725 and rebelledH4775 against Nebuchadnezzar.

2And the LORDH3068 sentH7971 ChaldeanH3778,1 ArameanH758, MoabiteH4124, and AmmoniteH1121H5983 raidersH1416 against Jehoiakim in order to destroyH6 JudahH3063, according to the wordH1697 thatH834 the LORDH3068 had spokenH1696 throughH3027 His servantsH5650 the prophetsH5030. 3SurelyH389 this happenedH1961 to JudahH3063 atH5921 the LORD’sH3068 commandH6310, to remove themH5493 fromH5921 His presenceH6440 because of the sinsH2403 of ManassehH4519 and allH3605 thatH834 he had doneH6213, 4and also forH1571 the innocentH5355 bloodH1818 he had shedH8210. For he had filledH4390 JerusalemH3389 with innocentH5355 bloodH1818, and the LORDH3068 was unwillingH14 to forgiveH5545.

5As for the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of JehoiakimH3079, along with allH3605 his accomplishmentsH834H6213, are theyH1992 notH3808 writtenH3789 inH5921 the BookH5612 of the ChroniclesH1697H3117 of the KingsH4428 of JudahH3063?

Jehoiachin Reigns in Judah

(2 Chronicles 36:9–10)

6And JehoiakimH3079 restedH7901 withH5973 his fathersH1, and his sonH1121 JehoiachinH3078 reignedH4427 in his placeH8478.

7Now the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 did notH3808 march outH3318 of his landH776 againH3254H5750, becauseH3588 the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 had takenH3947 allH3605 his territoryH1961H4428H4714, from the BrookH5158 of EgyptH4714 toH5704 the EuphratesH6578 RiverH5104.

8JehoiachinH3078 was eighteenH8083H6240 years oldH1121H8141 when he became kingH4427, and he reignedH4427 in JerusalemH3389 threeH7969 monthsH2320. His mother’sH517 nameH8034 was NehushtaH5179 daughterH1323 of ElnathanH494; she was from JerusalemH3389. 9And he didH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068, just asH3605 his fatherH1 had doneH6213.

The Captivity of Jerusalem

(Lamentations 1:1–22)

10At thatH1931 timeH6256 the servantsH5650 of NebuchadnezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894 marched upH5927 to JerusalemH3389, and the cityH5892 cameH935 under siegeH4692. 11And NebuchadnezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894 cameH935 toH5921 the cityH5892 while his servantsH5650 were besieging itH6696H5921. 12JehoiachinH3078 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, his motherH517, his servantsH5650, his commandersH8269, and his officialsH5631 all surrenderedH3318 toH5921 the kingH4428 of BabylonH894H1931.

So in the eighthH8083 yearH8141 of his reignH4427, the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 took him captiveH3947. 13AsH834 the LORDH3068 had declaredH1696, Nebuchadnezzar also carried offH3318H8033 allH3605 the treasuresH214 from the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 and the royalH4428 palaceH1004, and he cut into piecesH7112 allH3605 the goldH2091 articlesH3627 thatH834 SolomonH8010 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 had madeH6213 in the templeH1964 of the LORDH3068. 14He carried into exileH1540 allH3605 JerusalemH3389—allH3605 the commandersH8269 andH853 mighty menH1368 of valorH2428, allH3605 the craftsmenH2796 and metalsmithsH4525—tenH6235 thousandH505 captivesH1473 in all. OnlyH2108 the poorestH1803 peopleH5971 of the landH776 remainedH7604.

15Nebuchadnezzar carried awayH1540 JehoiachinH3078 to BabylonH894, as well asH853 the king’sH4428 motherH517, his wivesH802, his officialsH5631, and the leading menH853H193 of the landH776. He took themH1980 into exileH1473 from JerusalemH3389 to BabylonH894. 16The kingH4428 of BabylonH894 also broughtH935 into exileH1473 to BabylonH894 allH3605 sevenH7651 thousandH505 menH582 of valorH2428 and a thousandH505 craftsmenH2796 and metalsmithsH4525—allH3605 strongH1368 and fitH6213 for battleH4421.

17Then the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 made MattaniahH4983, Jehoiachin’s uncleH1730, kingH4427 in his placeH8478 and changedH5437 his nameH8034 to ZedekiahH6667.

Zedekiah Reigns in Judah

(2 Chronicles 36:11–14; Jeremiah 52:1–3)

18ZedekiahH6667 was twenty-oneH6242H259 years oldH1121H8141 when he became kingH4427, and he reignedH4427 in JerusalemH3389 elevenH259H6240 yearsH8141. His mother’sH517 nameH8034 was HamutalH2537 daughterH1323 of JeremiahH3414; she was from LibnahH3841.

19And Zedekiah didH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068, just asH3605 JehoiakimH3079 had doneH6213. 20ForH3588 becauseH5921 of the angerH639 of the LORDH3068, all this happenedH1961 in JerusalemH3389 and JudahH3063, untilH5704 He finally banishedH7993 themH853 fromH5921 His presenceH6440.

And Zedekiah alsoH6667 rebelledH4775 against the kingH4428 of BabylonH894.
