23Theyבֵית־ יוֹסֵ֖ףveit- yo.SefH1004 H3130בְּבֵֽית־be.veit-H1008sent spiesוַיָּתִ֥ירוּvai.ya.Ti.ruH8446to Bethelאֵ֑ל'ElH1008הָעִ֥ירha.'IrH5892(formerlyלְפָנִ֖יםle.fa.NimH6440known asוְשֵׁם־ve.shem-H8034Luzלֽוּז׃LuzH3870),

24and when the spiesהַשֹּׁ֣מְרִ֔יםha.Sho.me.RimH8104sawוַיִּרְאוּ֙vai.yir.'UH7200a manאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376coming outיוֹצֵ֣אyo.Tze'H3318ofמִן־min-H4480the cityהָעִ֑ירha.'IrH5892,they saidוַיֹּ֣אמְרוּvai.Yo.me.ruH559to him, “Pleaseנָא֙na'H4994אֶת־'et-H853show usהַרְאֵ֤נוּhar.'E.nuH7200how to get intoמְב֣וֹאme.Vo'H3996the cityהָעִ֔ירha.'IrH5892,and we will treatוְעָשִׂ֥ינוּve.'a.Si.nuH6213youעִמְּךָ֖'i.me.KhaH5973kindlyחָֽסֶד׃Cha.sedH2617.”

25So the man showed themוַיַּרְאֵם֙vai.yar.'EmH7200אֶת־'et-H853the entranceמְב֣וֹאme.Vo'H3996to the cityהָעִ֔ירha.'IrH5892,and they putוַיַּכּ֥וּvai.ya.KuH5221אֶת־'et-H853the cityהָעִ֖ירha.'IrH5892to the swordלְפִי־ חָ֑רֶבle.fi- Cha.revH6310 H2719וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853but releasedשִׁלֵּֽחוּ׃shi.Le.chuH7971that manהָאִ֥ישׁha.'IshH376וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853and allכָּל־kol-H3605his familyמִשְׁפַּחְתּ֖וֹmish.pach.ToH4940.

26And the manהָאִ֔ישׁha.'IshH376wentוַיֵּ֣לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980to the landאֶ֖רֶץ'E.retzH776of the Hittitesהַחִתִּ֑יםha.chi.TimH2850,builtוַיִּ֣בֶןvai.Yi.venH1129a cityעִ֗יר'IrH5892,and called itוַיִּקְרָ֤א שְׁמָהּ֙vai.yik.Ra' she.MahH7121 H8034Luzל֔וּזLuzH3870,whichה֣וּאhu'H1931is its nameשְׁמָ֔הּshe.MahH8034toעַ֖ד'adH5704thisהַזֶּֽה׃ פha.ZehH2088dayהַיּ֥וֹםhai.YomH3117.

28וַֽיְהִי֙vay.HiH1961Whenכִּֽי־ki-H3588Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478became strongerחָזַ֣קcha.ZakH2388,they pressedוַיָּ֥שֶׂםvai.Ya.semH7760אֶת־'et-H853the Canaanitesהַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֖יha.ke.na.'a.NiH3669into forced laborלָמַ֑סla.MasH4522,but they neverלֹ֥אlo'H3808drove them outוְהוֹרֵ֖ישׁve.ho.ReishH3423completelyהוֹרִישֽׁוֹ׃ סho.ri.ShoH3423.
