3When Davidדָוִ֣דda.VidH1732returnedוַיָּבֹ֨אvai.ya.Vo'H935toאֶל־'el-H413his palaceבֵּיתוֹ֮bei.ToH1004in Jerusalemיְרֽוּשָׁלִַם֒ye.ru.sha.LimH3389,heהַמֶּ֡לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428אֵ֣ת'etH853tookוַיִּקַּ֣חvai.yi.KachH3947the tenעֶֽשֶׂר־ נָשִׁ֣ים׀'e.ser- na.ShimH6235 H802concubinesפִּלַגְשִׁ֡יםpi.lag.ShimH6370אֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834he had leftהִנִּיחַ֩hi.ni.aChH5117to take care ofלִשְׁמֹ֨רlish.MorH8104the palaceהַבַּ֜יִתha.Ba.yitH1004,and he placed themוַֽיִּתְּנֵ֤םvai.yi.te.NemH5414in a houseבֵּית־beit-H1004under guardמִשְׁמֶ֙רֶת֙mish.Me.retH4931.He provided for themוַֽיְכַלְכְּלֵ֔םvay.khal.ke.LemH3557,but he no longerלֹא־lo'-H3808slept withוַאֲלֵיהֶ֖םva.'a.lei.HemH413themבָ֑אVa'H935.They wereוַתִּהְיֶ֧ינָהva.tih.Yei.nahH1961confinedצְרֻר֛וֹתtze.ru.RotH6887untilעַד־'ad-H5704the dayי֥וֹםYomH3117of their deathמֻתָ֖ןmu.TanH4191,livingחַיּֽוּת׃ סchai.YutH2424as widowsאַלְמְנ֥וּת'al.me.NutH491.

4Then the kingהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413Amasaעֲמָשָׂ֔א'a.ma.Sa'H6021, “Summonהַזְעֶק־haz.'ek-H2199אֶת־'et-H853the menאִישׁ־'ish-H376of Judahיְהוּדָ֖הye.hu.DahH3063to come to mewithin threeשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁתshe.Lo.shetH7969daysיָמִ֑יםya.MimH3117,and be hereפֹּ֥ה עֲמֹֽד׃poh 'a.ModH6311 H5975yourselfוְאַתָּ֖הve.'a.TahH859.”

5So Amasaעֲמָשָׂ֖א'a.ma.Sa'H6021wentוַיֵּ֥לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980to summonלְהַזְעִ֣יקle.haz.'IkH2199אֶת־'et-H853Judahיְהוּדָ֑הye.hu.DahH3063,but he took longerוַיּ֕וֹחֶרvai.yi.cherH309thanמִן־min-H4480the timeהַמּוֹעֵ֖דha.mo.'EdH4150אֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834allotted himיְעָדֽוֹ׃ סye.'a.DoH3259.

7So Joab’sיוֹאָ֔בyo.'AvH3097menאַנְשֵׁ֣י'an.SheiH582וַיֵּצְא֤וּvai.ye.tze.'UH3318אַֽחֲרָיו֙'a.cha.RavH310,along with the Cherethitesוְהַכְּרֵתִ֥יve.ha.ke.re.TiH3774,the Pelethitesוְהַפְּלֵתִ֖יve.ha.pe.le.TiH6432,and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the mighty menהַגִּבֹּרִ֑יםha.gi.bo.RimH1368,marched out ofוַיֵּֽצְאוּ֙vai.ye.tze.'UH3318Jerusalemמִיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔םmi.Ru.sha.LimH3389in pursuitלִרְדֹּ֕ף אַחֲרֵ֖יlir.Dof 'a.cha.ReiH7291 H310of Shebaשֶׁ֥בַעShe.va'H7652sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Bichriבִּכְרִֽי׃bikh.RiH1075.

8And whiletheyהֵ֗םHemH1992were atעִם־'im-H5973the greatהַגְּדוֹלָה֙ha.ge.do.LahH1419אֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834stoneהָאֶ֤בֶןha.'E.venH68in Gibeonבְּגִבְע֔וֹןbe.giv.'onH1391,Amasaוַעֲמָשָׂ֖אva.'a.ma.Sa'H6021joinedבָּ֣אba'H935themלִפְנֵיהֶ֑םlif.nei.HemH6440.Now Joabוְיוֹאָ֞בve.yo.'AvH3097was dressedחָג֣וּר׀cha.GurH2296in military attireמִדּ֣וֹ לְבֻשׁ֗וּmi.Do le.vu.ShuH4055 H3830,with a daggerחֶ֙רֶב֙che.revH2719strappedמְצֻמֶּ֤דֶתme.tzu.Me.detH6775וְעָלָ֞יוve.'a.loH5921to his beltחֲג֥וֹר עַל־ מָתְנָיו֙cha.Gor 'al- ma.te.NavH2290 H5921 H4975.And as heוְה֥וּאve.Hu'H1931stepped forwardיָצָ֖אya.Tza'H3318,he slipped the daggerוַתִּפֹּֽל׃ סva.ti.PolH5307from its sheathבְּתַעְרָ֔הּbe.ta'.RahH8593.
