22And Absalomאַבְשָׁל֛וֹם'av.sha.LomH53neverוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808said a wordדִבֶּ֧רdi.BerH1696toעִם־'im-H5973Amnonאַמְנ֖וֹן'am.NonH550,either goodט֑וֹבTovH2896or badלְמֵרָ֣ע וְעַד־le.me.Ra' ve.'ad-H7451H5704,becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588heאַבְשָׁלוֹם֙'av.sha.lOmH53אֶת־'et-H853hatedשָׂנֵ֤אsa.Ne'H8130Amnonאַמְנ֔וֹן'am.NonH550forעַל־ דְּבַר֙'al- de.VarH5921H1697אֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834violatingעִנָּ֔ה'i.NahH6031אֵ֖ת'etH853his sisterאֲחֹתֽוֹ׃ פ'a.cho.ToH269Tamarתָּמָ֥רta.MarH8559.
23Two years laterוַֽיְהִי֙ לִשְׁנָתַ֣יִם יָמִ֔יםvay.Hi lish.na.Ta.yim ya.MimH8141H3117H1961,when Absalom’sלְאַבְשָׁל֔וֹםle.'av.sha.LomH53sheepshearersגֹֽזְזִים֙ בְּבַ֥עַלgo.ze.Zim be.Va.'alH1178H1494wereוַיִּהְי֤וּvai.yih.YuH1961at Baal-hazorחָצ֖וֹרcha.TzorH1178אֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834nearעִם־'im-H5973Ephraimאֶפְרָ֑יִם'ef.Ra.yimH669, heאַבְשָׁל֖וֹם'av.sha.LomH53invitedוַיִּקְרָ֥אvai.yik.Ra'H7121allלְכָל־le.kholH3605the sonsבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121of the kingהַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ha.Me.lekhH4428.
24And heאַבְשָׁלוֹם֙'av.sha.lOmH53wentוַיָּבֹ֤אvai.ya.Vo'H935toאֶל־'el-H413the kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428and saidוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Your servantלְעַבְדֶּ֑ךָle.'av.De.khaH5650has justהִנֵּה־hi.neh-H2009נָ֥אna'H4994hired shearersגֹזְזִ֖יםgo.ze.ZimH1494.Will the kingהַמֶּ֛לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428and his servantsוַעֲבָדָ֖יוva.'a.va.DavH5650pleaseנָ֥אna'H4994comeיֵֽלֶךְ־ye.lekh-H1980withעִם־'im-H5973meעַבְדֶּֽךָ׃'av.De.khaH5650?”
25“Noאַל־'al-H408,my sonבְּנִי֙be.NiH1121,”the kingהַמֶּ֜לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428repliedוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559אֶל־'el-H413אַבְשָׁל֗וֹם'av.sha.LomH53, “we should notאַל־ נָ֤א'al- na'H408H4994allכֻּלָּ֔נוּku.La.nuH3605goנֵלֵךְ֙ne.leKhH1980,orוְלֹ֥אve.Lo'H3808we would be a burdenנִכְבַּ֖דnikh.BadH3513to youעָלֶ֑יךָ'a.Lei.khaH5921.”Although Absalom urgedוַיִּפְרָץ־vai.yif.rotz-H6555him,he was notוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808willingאָבָ֥ה'a.VahH14to goלָלֶ֖כֶתla.Le.khetH1980,but gave him his blessingוַֽיְבָרֲכֵֽהוּ׃Vay.va.ra.Khe.huH1288.
26“If notוָלֹ֕אva.Lo'H3808,”saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559Absalomאַבְשָׁל֔וֹם'av.sha.LomH53, “pleaseנָ֥אna'H4994let my brotherאָחִ֑י'a.ChiH251Amnonאַמְנ֣וֹן'am.NonH550goיֵֽלֶךְ־ye.lekh-H1980with usאִתָּ֖נוּ'i.Ta.nuH854.” “Whyלָ֥מָּהLa.mahH4100should he goיֵלֵ֖ךְye.LekhH1980with youעִמָּֽךְ׃'i.MakhH5973?”the kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428askedוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559.
28Now Absalomאַבְשָׁל֨וֹם'av.sha.LomH53אֶת־'et-H853had orderedוַיְצַו֩vay.TzavH6680his young menנְעָרָ֜יוne.'a.RavH5288לֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559, “Watchרְא֣וּre.'UH7200Amnonאַמְנ֤וֹן'am.NonH550untilנָ֠אna'H4994his heartלֵב־lev-H3820is merryכְּט֨וֹבke.TovH2895with wineבַּיַּ֙יִן֙bai.Ya.yinH3196,and when I orderוְאָמַרְתִּ֣יve.'a.mar.TiH559youאֲלֵיכֶ֔ם'a.lei.KhemH413to strikeהַכּ֧וּha.KuH5221אֶת־'et-H853Amnon downאַמְנ֛וֹן'am.NonH550,you are to kill himוַהֲמִתֶּ֥םva.ha.mi.TemH4191אֹת֖וֹ'o.ToH853.Do notאַל־'al-H408be afraidתִּירָ֑אוּti.Ra.'uH3372.Haveכִּ֤יkiH3588Iאָֽנֹכִי֙'a.no.KhiH595notהֲל֗וֹאha.Lo'H3808commandedצִוִּ֣יתִיtzi.Vi.tiH6680youאֶתְכֶ֔ם'et.KhemH853?Be courageousחִזְק֖וּchiz.KuH2388andוִהְי֥וּvih.YuH1961לִבְנֵי־liv.nei-H1121valiantחָֽיִל׃Cha.yilH2428!”
29So Absalom’sאַבְשָׁלוֹם֙'av.sha.lOmH53young menנַעֲרֵ֤יna.'a.ReiH5288didוַֽיַּעֲשׂ֞וּvai.ya.'a.SuH6213to Amnonלְאַמְנ֔וֹןle.'am.NonH550just asכַּאֲשֶׁ֥רka.'a.SherH834Absalomאַבְשָׁל֑וֹם'av.sha.LomH53had orderedצִוָּ֖הtzi.VahH6680.Then allכָּל־kol-H3605the othersonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of the kingהַמֶּ֗לֶךְ וַֽיִּרְכְּב֛וּha.Me.lekh vai.yir.ke.VuH4428H7392got upוַיָּקֻ֣מוּ׀vai.ya.Ku.muH6965,and each oneאִ֥ישׁ'ishH376fledוַיָּנֻֽסוּ׃vai.ya.Nu.suH5127onעַל־'al-H5921his muleפִּרְדּ֖וֹpir.DoH6505.
30While theyהֵ֣מָּהHe.mahH1992wereוַֽיְהִי֙vay.HiH1961on the wayבַדֶּ֔רֶךְva.De.rekhH1870,a reportוְהַשְּׁמֻעָ֣הve.ha.she.mu.'AhH8052reachedבָ֔אָה אֶל־Va.'ah 'el-H935H413Davidדָּוִ֖ד לֵאמֹ֑רda.Vid le.MorH1732H559: “Absalomאַבְשָׁלוֹם֙'av.sha.lOmH53אֶת־'et-H853has struck downהִכָּ֤הhi.KahH5221allכָּל־kol-H3605the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of the kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428;notוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808oneאֶחָֽד׃ ס'e.ChadH259of themis leftנוֹתַ֥רno.TarH3498!”
31Then the kingהַמֶּ֛לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428stood upוַיָּ֧קָםvai.Ya.komH6965,toreוַיִּקְרַ֥עvai.yik.Ra'H7167אֶת־'et-H853his clothesבְּגָדָ֖יוbe.ga.DavH899,and lay downוַיִּשְׁכַּ֣בvai.yish.KavH7901on the groundאָ֑רְצָה'A.re.tzahH776.And allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605his servantsעֲבָדָ֥יו'a.va.DavH5650stoodנִצָּבִ֖יםni.tza.VimH5324by with their clothesבְגָדִֽים׃ סve.ga.DimH899tornקְרֻעֵ֥יke.ru.'EiH7167.
32But Jonadabיוֹנָדָ֣ב׀yo.na.DavH3122,the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of David’sדָוִ֜דda.VidH1732brotherאֲחִֽי־'a.chi-H251Shimeahשִׁמְעָ֨הshim.'AhH8093,spoke upוַיַּ֡עַןvai.Ya.'anH6030: “My lordאֲדֹנִי֙'a.do.NiH113אֵ֣ת'etH853must notוַיֹּ֗אמֶר אַל־vai.Yo.mer 'al-H408H559thinkיֹאמַ֤רyo.MarH559they have killedהֵמִ֔יתוּhe.Mi.tuH4191allכָּל־kol-H3605הַנְּעָרִ֤יםha.ne.'a.RimH5288the sonsבְּנֵֽי־be.nei-H1121of the kingהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428,forכִּֽי־ki-H3588onlyלְבַדּ֖וֹle.va.DoH905Amnonאַמְנ֥וֹן'am.NonH550is deadמֵ֑תMetH4191.In factכִּֽי־ki-H3588,Absalomאַבְשָׁלוֹם֙'av.sha.lOmH53עַל־'al-H5921פִּ֤יpiH6310הָיְתָ֣הha.ye.TahH1961has planned thisשׂוּמָ֔הsu.MahH7760since the dayמִיּוֹם֙mi.yOmH3117Amnon violatedעַנֹּת֔וֹa.no.ToH6031אֵ֖ת'etH853his sisterאֲחֹתֽוֹ׃'a.cho.ToH269Tamarתָּמָ֥רta.MarH8559.
33So nowוְעַתָּ֡הve.'a.TahH6258,my lordאֲדֹנִ֨י'a.do.NiH113the kingהַמֶּ֤לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428,do notאַל־'al-H408takeיָשֵׂם֩ya.SemH7760toאֶל־'el-H413heartלִבּוֹ֙li.BoH3820the report thatדָּבָ֣ר לֵאמֹ֔רda.Var le.MorH1697H559allכָּל־kol-H3605the sonsבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121of the kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428are deadמֵ֑תוּ כִּֽי־Me.tu ki-H4191H3588H518.Onlyלְבַדּ֖וֹle.va.DoH905Amnonאַמְנ֥וֹן'am.NonH550is deadמֵֽת׃ פMetH4191.”
34Meanwhile, Absalomאַבְשָׁל֑וֹם'av.sha.LomH53had fledוַיִּבְרַ֖חvai.yiv.RachH1272.When the young manהַנַּ֤עַרha.Na.'arH5288standing watchH6822אֶת־'et-H853looked upוַיִּשָּׂ֞א עֵינָ֔יוvai.yi.Sa' ei.noH5375H5869,he sawH7200וְהִנֵּ֨הve.hi.NehH2009manyרַ֜בravH7227peopleעַם־'am-H5971comingהֹלְכִ֥יםho.le.KhimH1980down the roadH1870west of himאַחֲרָ֖יו'a.cha.RavH310,along the sideמִצַּ֥דmi.TzadH6654of the hill. And the watchman went and reported to the king, “I see men coming from the direction of Horonaim, along the side of the hillהָהָֽר׃ha.HarH2022.”
35So Jonadabיֽוֹנָדָב֙yo.na.DavH3122saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413the kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428, “Lookהִנֵּ֥הhi.NehH2009,the sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of the kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428have arrivedבָּ֑אוּBa.'uH935!It is just asכֵּ֥ןkenH3651your servantעַבְדְּךָ֖ הָיָֽה׃'av.de.Kha ha.YahH5650H1961saidכִּדְבַ֥רkid.VarH1697.”
36וַיְהִ֣י׀vay.HiH1961And as he finishedכְּכַלֹּת֣וֹke.kha.lo.ToH3615speakingלְדַבֵּ֗ר וְהִנֵּ֤הle.da.Ber ve.hi.NehH1696H2009,the sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of the kingהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428came inבָּ֔אוּBa.'uH935,wailingוַיִּבְכּ֑וּvai.yiv.KuH1058loudlyוַיִּשְׂא֥וּ קוֹלָ֖םvai.yis.'U ko.LamH5375H6963.Then the kingהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605his servantsעֲבָדָ֔יו'a.va.DavH5650alsoוְגַם־ve.gam-H1571weptבָּכ֕וּ בְּכִ֖יba.Khu be.KhiH1058H1065veryמְאֹֽד׃me.'OdH3966bitterlyגָּד֥וֹלga.DolH1419.
37Now Absalomוְאַבְשָׁל֣וֹםve.'av.sha.LomH53fledבָּרַ֔חba.RachH1272and wentוַיֵּ֛לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980toאֶל־'el-H413Talmaiתַּלְמַ֥יtal.MaiH8526sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of AmmihudH5991,the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Geshurגְּשׁ֑וּרge.ShurH1650.But David mournedוַיִּתְאַבֵּ֥לvai.yit.'a.BelH56forעַל־'al-H5921his sonבְּנ֖וֹbe.NoH1121everyכָּל־kol-H3605dayהַיָּמִֽים׃hai.ya.MimH3117.
