14Then he saidוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Ihave somethingדָּבָ֥רda.VarH1697to tellyouאֵלָ֑יִךְ'e.La.yikhH413.” “Say itדַּבֵּֽר׃da.BerH1696,”she answeredוַתֹּ֖אמֶרva.To.merH559.

15“Youאַ֤תְּ'atH859knowיָדַ֙עַתְּ֙ya.Da.'atH3045thatכִּי־ki-H3588the kingshipהַמְּלוּכָ֔הha.me.lu.KhahH4410was mineהָיְתָ֣הha.ye.TahH1961,”he saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559. “Allכָֽל־khol-H3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֛לYis.ra.'ElH3478expectedוְעָלַ֞י שָׂ֧מוּ פְּנֵיהֶ֖םve.'a.Lai Sa.mu pe.nei.HemH5921 H7760 H6440that I should reignלִמְלֹ֑ךְlim.LokhH4427,but the kingshipהַמְּלוּכָה֙ha.me.lu.KhahH4410has turnedוַתִּסֹּ֤בva.ti.SoH5437וַתְּהִ֣יva.te.HiH1961to my brotherלְאָחִ֔יle.'a.ChiH251,forכִּ֥יkiH3588it has comeהָ֥יְתָהHa.ye.tahH1961to himfrom the LORDמֵיְהוָ֖הme.Yah.wehH3068.

16So nowוְעַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258Iאָֽנֹכִי֙ שֹׁאֵ֣ל'a.no.Khi sho.'ElH595 H7592have just oneאַחַת֙'a.ChatH259requestשְׁאֵלָ֤הshe.'e.LahH7596of youמֵֽאִתָּ֔ךְme.'i.TakhH854;do notאַל־'al-H408denyתָּשִׁ֖בִיta.Shi.viH7725אֶת־'et-H853meפָּנָ֑יpa.NaiH6440.” “Stateדַּבֵּֽר׃da.BerH1696your request,”she toldוַתֹּ֥אמֶרva.To.merH559himאֵלָ֖יו'e.LavH413.

19So BathshebaH1339wentוַתָּבֹ֤אva.ta.Vo'H935toאֶל־'el-H413Kingהַמֶּ֣לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֔הshe.lo.MohH8010to speakלְדַבֶּר־le.da.ber-H1696to himforעַל־'al-H5921Adonijahאֲדֹנִיָּ֑הוּ'a.do.ni.Ya.huH138.The kingהַמֶּ֨לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428stood upוַיָּקָם֩vai.ya.KamH6965to greet herלִקְרָאתָ֜הּlik.ra.TahH7122,bowedוַיִּשְׁתַּ֣חוּvai.yish.Ta.chuH7812to her,and sat downוַיֵּ֙שֶׁב֙vai.Ye.shevH3427onעַל־'al-H5921his throneכִּסְא֔וֹkis.'OH3678.Then the king had a throneכִּסֵּא֙ki.Se'H3678broughtוַיָּ֤שֶׂםvai.Ya.semH7760forהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428hismotherלְאֵ֣םle.'EmH517, whosat downוַתֵּ֖שֶׁבva.Te.shevH3427at his right handלִֽימִינֽוֹ׃li.mi.noH3225.

21So Bathsheba saidוַתֹּ֕אמֶרva.To.merH559, “Let Abishagאֲבִישַׁ֣ג'a.vi.ShagH49the Shunammiteהַשֻּׁנַמִּ֑יתha.shu.na.MitH7767be givenיֻתַּ֖ןyu.TanH5414אֶת־'et-H853to your brotherאָחִ֖יךָ'a.Chi.khaH251Adonijahלַאֲדֹנִיָּ֥הוּla.'a.do.ni.Ya.huH138as his wifeלְאִשָּֽׁה׃le.'i.ShahH802.”

23Then Kingהַמֶּ֣לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֔הshe.lo.MohH8010sworeוַיִּשָּׁבַע֙vai.yi.sha.Va'H7650by the LORDבַּֽיהוָ֖ה לֵאמֹ֑רba.Yah.weh le.MorH3068 H559: “May Godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430punishכֹּ֣ה יַֽעֲשֶׂה־koh ya.'a.seh-H3541 H6213me,and ever soוְכֹ֣הve.KhohH3541severelyיוֹסִ֔יףyo.SifH3254,ifכִּ֣יkiH3588Adonijahאֲדֹ֣נִיָּ֔הוּ'a.Do.ni.Ya.huH138אֶת־'et-H853has not madeדִּבֶּר֙di.BerH1696thisהַזֶּֽה׃ha.ZehH2088requestהַדָּבָ֖רha.da.VarH1697at the expense of his lifeבְנַפְשׁ֔וֹve.naf.ShoH5315.

24And nowוְעַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258,as surely as the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068livesחַי־chai-H2416—the Oneאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834who established meהֱכִינַ֗נִיhe.khi.Na.niH3559,who set meוַיּֽוֹשִׁיבַ֙נִי֙vai.yo.shi.vi.niH3427onעַל־'al-H5921the throneכִּסֵּא֙ki.Se'H3678of my fatherאָבִ֔י'a.ViH1Davidדָּוִ֣דda.VidH1732,and who foundedעָֽשָׂה־'a.sah-H6213for mea dynastyבַּ֖יִתBa.yitH1004וַאֲשֶׁ֧רva.'a.SherH834asכַּאֲשֶׁ֣רka.'a.SherH834He promisedדִּבֵּ֑רdi.BerH1696—surelyכִּ֣יkiH3588Adonijahאֲדֹנִיָּֽהוּ׃'a.do.ni.Ya.huH138shall be put to deathיוּמַ֖תyu.MatH4191todayהַיּ֔וֹםhai.YomH3117!”

25So Kingהַמֶּ֣לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֔הshe.lo.MohH8010gave ordersוַיִּשְׁלַח֙vai.yish.LachH7971toבְּיַ֖דbe.YadH3027Benaiahבְּנָיָ֣הוּbe.na.Ya.huH1141sonבֶן־ven-H1121of Jehoiadaיְהוֹיָדָ֑עye.ho.ya.Da'H3077,and he struck downוַיִּפְגַּע־vai.yif.ga'-H6293Adonijahand he diedוַיָּמֹֽת׃ סvai.ya.MotH4191.

26Then the kingהַמֶּ֗לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428saidאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559to Abiatharוּלְאֶבְיָתָ֨רu.le.'ev.ya.TarH54the priestהַכֹּהֵ֜ןha.ko.HenH3548, “Go backלֵ֣ךְlekhH1980toעַל־'al-H5921your fieldsשָׂדֶ֔יךָsa.Dei.khaH7704in Anathothעֲנָתֹת֙'a.na.TotH6068.Even thoughכִּ֛י אִ֥ישׁki 'ishH3588 H376youאָ֑תָּה'A.tahH859deserve to dieמָ֖וֶתMa.vetH4194,I will notלֹ֣אlo'H3808put you to deathאֲמִיתֶ֗ךָ'a.mi.Te.khaH4191at thisהַזֶּ֜הha.ZehH2088timeוּבַיּ֨וֹםu.vai.YomH3117,sinceכִּֽי־ki-H3588you carriedנָשָׂ֜אתָna.Sa.taH5375אֶת־'et-H853the arkאֲר֨וֹן'a.RonH727of the Lordאֲדֹנָ֤י'a.do.NaiH136GODיְהֹוִה֙Yah.wehH3069beforeלִפְנֵי֙lif.NeiH6440my fatherאָבִ֔י וְכִ֣י'a.Vi ve.KhiH1 H3588Davidדָּוִ֣דda.VidH1732,and you sufferedהִתְעַנִּ֔יתָhit.'a.Ni.taH6031through allבְּכֹ֥לbe.KholH3605thatאֲשֶֽׁר־'a.Sher-H834my fatherאָבִֽי׃'a.ViH1sufferedהִתְעַנָּ֖הhit.'a.NahH6031.”

27So Solomonשְׁלֹמֹה֙she.lo.MohH8010אֶת־'et-H853banishedוַיְגָ֤רֶשׁvay.Ga.reshH1644Abiatharאֶבְיָתָ֔ר'ev.ya.TarH54fromמִהְי֥וֹתmih.YotH1961the priesthoodכֹּהֵ֖ןko.HenH3548of the LORDלַֽיהוָ֑הla.Yah.wehH3068and thus fulfilledלְמַלֵּא֙le.ma.Le'H4390אֶת־'et-H853the wordדְּבַ֣רde.VarH1697thatאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068had spokenדִּבֶּ֛רdi.BerH1696at Shilohבְּשִׁלֹֽה׃ פbe.shi.LohH7887againstעַל־'al-H5921the houseבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004of Eliעֵלִ֖י'e.LiH5941.

28When the newsוְהַשְּׁמֻעָה֙ve.ha.she.mu.'AhH8052reachedבָּ֣אָה עַד־Ba.'ah 'ad-H935 H5704Joabיוֹאָ֔בyo.'AvH3097כִּ֣יkiH3588, whoיוֹאָ֗בyo.'AvH3097had conspiredנָטָה֙na.TahH5186withאַחֲרֵ֣י'a.cha.ReiH310Adonijahאֲדֹנִיָּ֔ה'a.do.ni.YahH138butוְאַחֲרֵ֥יve.'a.cha.ReiH310notלֹ֣אlo'H3808withנָטָ֑הna.TahH5186Absalomאַבְשָׁל֖וֹם'av.sha.LomH53, heיוֹאָב֙yo.'AvH3097fledוַיָּ֤נָסvai.Ya.nosH5127toאֶל־'el-H413the tentאֹ֣הֶל'O.helH168of the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068and took holdוַֽיַּחֲזֵ֖קvai.ya.cha.ZekH2388of the hornsבְּקַרְנ֥וֹתbe.kar.NotH7161of the altarהַמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃ha.miz.Be.achH4196.

29It was reportedוַיֻּגַּ֞דvai.yu.GadH5046to Kingלַמֶּ֣לֶךְla.Me.lekhH4428Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֗ה כִּ֣יshe.lo.Moh kiH8010 H3588: “Joabיוֹאָב֙yo.'AvH3097has fledנָ֤סnasH5127toאֶל־'el-H413the tentאֹ֣הֶל'O.helH168of the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068and is nowוְהִנֵּ֖הve.hi.NehH2009besideאֵ֣צֶל'E.tzelH681the altarהַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַha.miz.Be.achH4196.”So Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֜הshe.lo.MohH8010אֶת־'et-H853sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֨חvai.yish.LachH7971Benaiahבְּנָיָ֧הוּbe.na.Ya.huH1141sonבֶן־ven-H1121of Jehoiadaיְהוֹיָדָ֛עye.ho.ya.Da'H3077,sayingלֵאמֹ֖רle.MorH559, “Goלֵ֥ךְlekhH1980,strike him downפְּגַע־pe.ga'-H6293!”

30And Benaiahבְנָיָ֜הוּve.na.Ya.huH1141enteredוַיָּבֹ֨א אֶל־vai.ya.Vo' 'el-H935 H413the tentאֹ֣הֶל'O.helH168of the LORDיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068and saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Joabאֵלָ֜יו'e.LavH413, “The kingכֹּֽה־ הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙koh- ha.Me.lekhH3541 H4428saysאָמַ֤ר'a.MarH559, ‘Come outצֵ֔אTze'H3318!’”But Joab repliedוַיֹּ֥אמֶר׀vai.Yo.merH559, “Noלֹ֖אlo'H3808כִּ֣יkiH3588,I will dieאָמ֑וּת'a.MutH4191hereפֹ֣הfohH6311.”So Benaiahבְּנָיָ֤הוּbe.na.Ya.huH1141אֶת־'et-H853relayed the messageוַיָּ֨שֶׁב דָּבָ֣רvai.Ya.shev da.VarH1697 H7725to the kingהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “This is howכֹּֽה־koh-H3541Joabיוֹאָ֖בyo.'AvH3097דִבֶּ֥רdi.BerH1696וְכֹ֥הve.KhohH3541answered meעָנָֽנִי׃'a.Na.niH6030.”

31And the kingהַמֶּ֗לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428repliedוַיֹּ֧אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Doעֲשֵׂה֙'a.SehH6213just asכַּאֲשֶׁ֣רka.'a.SherH834he saysדִּבֶּ֔רdi.BerH1696.Strike him downוּפְגַע־u.fe.ga'-H6293and bury himוּקְבַרְתּ֑וֹu.ke.var.ToH6912,and so removeוַהֲסִירֹ֣תָ׀va.ha.si.Ro.taH5493from meמֵעָלַ֕יme.'a.LaiH5921and fromוּמֵעַ֖לu.me.'AlH5921the houseבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004of my fatherאָבִֽי׃'a.ViH1the innocentחִנָּ֗םchi.NamH2600bloodדְּמֵ֣יde.MeiH1818thatאֲשֶׁר֙'a.SherH834Joabיוֹאָ֔בyo.'AvH3097shedשָׁפַ֣ךְsha.FakhH8210.

32The LORDיְהוָ֨הYah.wehH3068אֶת־'et-H853will bringוְהֵשִׁיב֩ve.he.ShivH7725his bloodshedדָּמ֜וֹda.MoH1818back uponעַל־'al-H5921his own headרֹאשׁ֗וֹro.ShoH7218,forאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834withoutלֹ֣אlo'H3808the knowledgeיָדָ֑עya.Da'H3045of my fatherוְאָבִ֥יve.'a.ViH1Davidדָוִ֖דda.VidH1732he struck downפָּגַ֣עpa.Ga'H6293twoבִּשְׁנֵֽי־bish.nei-H8147menאֲ֠נָשִׁים'A.na.shimH582more righteousצַדִּקִ֨יםtza.di.KimH6662and betterוְטֹבִ֤יםve.to.VimH2896than heמִמֶּ֙נּוּ֙mi.Me.nuH4480when he putוַיַּהַרְגֵ֣םvai.ya.har.GemH2026to the swordבַּחֶ֔רֶבba.Che.revH2719אֶת־'et-H853Abnerאַבְנֵ֤ר'av.NerH74sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Nerנֵר֙nerH5369,commanderשַׂר־sar-H8269of Israel’sיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853armyצְבָ֣אtze.Va'H6635,and Amasaעֲמָשָׂ֥א'a.ma.Sa'H6021sonבֶן־ven-H1121of Jetherיֶ֖תֶרYe.terH3500,commanderשַׂר־sar-H8269of Judah’sיְהוּדָֽה׃ye.hu.DahH3063armyצְבָ֥אtze.Va'H6635.

33Their bloodדְמֵיהֶם֙de.mei.HemH1818will come backוְשָׁ֤בוּve.Sha.vuH7725upon the headsבְּרֹ֣אשׁbe.RoshH7218of Joabיוֹאָ֔בyo.'AvH3097andוּבְרֹ֥אשׁu.ve.RoshH7218his descendants foreverזַרְע֖וֹ לְעֹלָ֑םzar.'O le.'o.LamH2233 H5769;but for Davidוּלְדָוִ֡דu.le.da.VidH1732,his descendantsוּ֠לְזַרְעוֹu.le.zar.'oH2233,his houseוּלְבֵית֨וֹu.le.vei.ToH1004,and his throneוּלְכִסְא֜וֹu.le.khis.'OH3678,there shall beיִהְיֶ֥הyih.YehH1961peaceשָׁל֛וֹםsha.LomH7965fromמֵעִ֥םme.'ImH5973the LORDיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068foreverעַד־ עוֹלָ֖ם'ad- o.LamH5704 H5769.”

34So Benaiahבְּנָיָ֙הוּ֙be.na.Ya.huH1141sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Jehoiadaיְה֣וֹיָדָ֔עye.Ho.ya.Da'H3077went upוַיַּ֗עַלvai.Ya.'alH5927,struck down Joabוַיִּפְגַּע־vai.yif.ga'-H6293,and killed himוַיְמִתֵ֑הוּvay.mi.Te.huH4191.He was buriedוַיִּקָּבֵ֥רvai.yi.ka.VerH6912at his own homeבְּבֵית֖וֹbe.vei.ToH1004in the wildernessבַּמִּדְבָּֽר׃ba.mid.BarH4057.

35And the kingהַמֶּ֜לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428אֶת־'et-H853appointedוַיִּתֵּ֨ןvai.yi.TenH5414Benaiahבְּנָיָ֧הוּbe.na.Ya.huH1141sonבֶן־ven-H1121of Jehoiadaיְהוֹיָדָ֛עye.ho.ya.Da'H3077in Joab’s placeתַּחְתָּ֖יוtach.TavH8478overעַל־'al-H5921the armyהַצָּבָ֑אha.tza.Va'H6635וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853,and he appointedנָתַ֣ן הַמֶּ֔לֶךְna.Tan ha.Me.lekhH5414 H4428Zadokצָד֤וֹקtza.DokH6659the priestהַכֹּהֵן֙ha.ko.HenH3548in Abiathar’sאֶבְיָתָֽר׃'ev.ya.TarH54placeתַּ֖חַתTa.chatH8478.

36Then the kingהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428summonedוַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח וַיִּקְרָ֣אvai.yish.Lach vai.yik.Ra'H7971 H7121Shimeiלְשִׁמְעִ֔יle.shim.'IH8096and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “Buildבְּֽנֵה־be.neh-H1129a houseבַ֙יִת֙va.yitH1004for yourselfin Jerusalemבִּיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔םbi.Ru.sha.LimH3389and liveוְיָשַׁבְתָּ֖ve.ya.shav.TaH3427thereשָׁ֑םShamH8033,but do notוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808goתֵצֵ֥אte.Tze'H3318מִשָּׁ֖םmi.ShamH8033anywhere elseH575.
