8So he got upוַיָּ֖קָםvai.Ya.komH6965and ateוַיֹּ֣אכַלvai.Yo.khalH398and drankוַיִּשְׁתֶּ֑הvai.yish.TehH8354.And strengthenedבְּכֹ֣חַ׀be.Kho.achH3581by thatהַהִ֗יאha.Hi'H1931foodהָאֲכִילָ֣הha.'a.khi.LahH396,he walkedוַיֵּ֜לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980fortyאַרְבָּעִ֥ים'ar.ba.'ImH705daysיוֹם֙yOmH3117and fortyוְאַרְבָּעִ֣יםve.'ar.ba.'ImH705nightsלַ֔יְלָהLay.lahH3915until he reachedעַ֛ד'adH5704Horebחֹרֵֽב׃cho.RevH2722,the mountainהַ֥רharH2022of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֖יםha.'E.lo.HimH430.

9Thereשָׁ֥ם וְהִנֵּ֤הsham ve.hi.NehH8033 H2009Elijahenteredוַיָּבֹא־ אֶל־ שָׁ֑םvai.ya.vo'- 'el- ShamH935 H8033 H413a caveהַמְּעָרָ֖הha.me.'a.RahH4631and spent the nightוַיָּ֣לֶןvai.Ya.lenH3885.And the wordדְבַר־de.var-H1697of the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068came to himאֵלָ֔יו'e.LavH413,sayingוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Whatמַה־mah-H4100are you doinghereפֹ֖הfohH6311,Elijahאֵלִיָּֽהוּ׃'e.li.Ya.huH452?”

10“I have been very zealousH7065for the LORDלַיהוָ֣ה׀la.Yah.wehH3068,the Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of Hostsצְבָא֗וֹתtze.va.'otH6635,”he repliedוַיֹּאמֶר֩vai.yo.MerH559, “butכִּֽי־ki-H3588the Israelitesבְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔לbe.Nei Yis.ra.'ElH1121 H3478אֶת־'et-H853have forsakenעָזְב֤וּ'a.ze.VuH5800Your covenantבְרִֽיתְךָ֙ve.ri.te.KhaH1285,torn downהָרָ֔סוּha.Ra.suH2040וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853Your altarsמִזְבְּחֹתֶ֣יךָmiz.be.cho.Tei.khaH4196,and killedהָרְג֣וּha.re.GuH2026Your prophetsנְבִיאֶ֖יךָne.vi.'Ei.khaH5030with the swordבֶחָ֑רֶבve.Cha.revH2719.Iאֲנִי֙'a.NiH589am the only oneלְבַדִּ֔יle.va.DiH905leftוָֽאִוָּתֵ֤רva.'i.va.TerH3498,and they are seekingוַיְבַקְשׁ֥וּvay.vak.ShuH1245אֶת־'et-H853לְקַחְתָּֽהּ׃le.kach.TahH3947my life as wellנַפְשִׁ֖יnaf.ShiH5315.”

11Then the LORD saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Go outצֵ֣אtze'H3318and standוְעָמַדְתָּ֣ve.'a.mad.TaH5975on the mountainבָהָר֮va.HarH2022beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the LORDיְהוָה֒Yah.wehH3068.Beholdוְהִנֵּ֧הve.hi.NehH2009,the LORDיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068is about to pass byעֹבֵ֗ר'o.VerH5674.”And a greatגְּדוֹלָ֡הge.do.LahH1419and mightyוְחָזָ֞קve.cha.ZakH2389windוְר֣וּחַve.Ru.achH7307tore intoמְפָרֵק֩me.fa.RekH6561the mountainsהָרִ֨יםha.RimH2022and shatteredוּמְשַׁבֵּ֤רu.me.sha.BerH7665the rocksסְלָעִים֙se.la.'ImH5553beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,but the LORDיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068was notלֹ֥אlo'H3808in the windבָר֖וּחַva.Ru.achH7307.Afterוְאַחַ֤רve.'a.CharH310the windהָר֨וּחַha.Ru.achH7307there was an earthquakeרַ֔עַשׁRa.'ashH7494,but the LORDיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068was notלֹ֥אlo'H3808in the earthquakeבָרַ֖עַשׁva.Ra.'ashH7494.

12Afterוְאַחַ֤רve.'a.CharH310the earthquakeהָרַ֙עַשׁ֙ha.Ra.'ashH7494there was a fireאֵ֔שׁ'EshH784,but the LORDיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068was notלֹ֥אlo'H3808in the fireבָאֵ֖שׁva.'EshH784.And afterוְאַחַ֣רve.'a.CharH310the fireהָאֵ֔שׁha.'EshH784came a stillדְּמָמָ֥הde.ma.MahH1827,smallדַקָּֽה׃da.KahH1851voiceק֖וֹלKolH6963.

13וַיְהִ֣י׀vay.HiH1961When Elijahאֵלִיָּ֗הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452heard itכִּשְׁמֹ֣עַkish.Mo.a'H8085,he wrappedוַיָּ֤לֶטvai.Ya.letH3874his faceפָּנָיו֙pa.NavH6440in his cloakבְּאַדַּרְתּ֔וֹbe.'a.dar.ToH155and went outוַיֵּצֵ֕אvai.ye.Tze'H3318and stoodוַֽיַּעֲמֹ֖דvai.ya.'a.ModH5975at the mouthפֶּ֣תַחPe.tachH6607of the caveהַמְּעָרָ֑הha.me.'a.RahH4631.Suddenlyוְהִנֵּ֤הve.hi.NehH2009a voiceק֔וֹלKolH6963cameto himאֵלָיו֙'e.LavH413and saidוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Whatמַה־mah-H4100are you doinghereפֹ֖הfohH6311,Elijahאֵלִיָּֽהוּ׃'e.li.Ya.huH452?”

15Then the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to himאֵלָ֔יו'e.LavH413, “Goלֵ֛ךְlekhH1980backשׁ֥וּבshuvH7725by the way you cameלְדַרְכְּךָ֖le.dar.ke.KhaH1870, and goto the Desertמִדְבַּ֣רָהmid.Ba.rahH4057of Damascusדַמָּ֑שֶׂקda.Ma.sekH1834.When you arriveוּבָ֗אתָu.Va.taH935,you are to anointוּמָשַׁחְתָּ֧u.ma.shach.TaH4886אֶת־'et-H853Hazaelחֲזָאֵ֛לcha.za.'ElH2371as kingלְמֶ֖לֶךְle.Me.lekhH4428overעַל־'al-H5921Aramאֲרָֽם׃'a.RamH758.

16You are also to anointוְאֵת֙ תִּמְשַׁ֥חve.'Et tim.ShachH853 H4886Jehuיֵה֣וּאye.Hu'H3058sonבֶן־ven-H1121of Nimshiנִמְשִׁ֔יnim.ShiH5250as kingלְמֶ֖לֶךְle.Me.lekhH4428overעַל־'al-H5921Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853and Elishaאֱלִישָׁ֤ע'e.li.Sha'H477sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Shaphatשָׁפָט֙sha.FatH8202from Abel-meholahתִּמְשַׁ֥חtim.ShachH65 H4886to succeed youתַּחְתֶּֽיךָ׃tach.Tei.khaH8478as prophetלְנָבִ֖יאle.na.Vi'H5030.

17Thenוְהָיָ֗הve.ha.YahH1961Jehuיֵה֑וּאye.Hu'H3058will put to deathיָמִ֣יתya.MitH4191whoever escapesהַנִּמְלָ֛טha.nim.LatH4422the swordמֵחֶ֥רֶבme.Che.revH2719of Hazaelחֲזָאֵ֖לcha.za.'ElH2371,and Elishaאֱלִישָֽׁע׃'e.li.Sha'H477will put to deathיָמִ֥יתya.MitH4191whoever escapesוְהַנִּמְלָ֛טve.ha.nim.LatH4422the swordמֵחֶ֥רֶבme.Che.revH2719of Jehuיֵה֖וּאye.Hu'H3058.

18Nevertheless, I have reservedוְהִשְׁאַרְתִּ֥יve.hish.'ar.TiH7604sevenשִׁבְעַ֣תshiv.'AtH7651thousandאֲלָפִ֑ים'a.la.FimH505in Israelבְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לve.Yis.ra.'ElH3478—allכָּל־kol-H3605whoseאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834kneesהַבִּרְכַּ֗יִםha.bir.Ka.yimH1290have notלֹֽא־lo'-H3808bowedכָֽרְעוּ֙kha.re.'UH3766to Baalלַבַּ֔עַלla.Ba.'alH1168andוְכָ֨ל־ve.kholH3605whosemouthsהַפֶּ֔הha.PehH6310אֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834have notלֹֽא־lo'-H3808kissedנָשַׁ֖קna.ShakH5401him.”
