Amos 6
American Standard Version
1WoeH1945 to them that are at easeH7600 in ZionH6726, and to them that are secureH982 in the mountainH2022 of SamariaH8111, the notable men of the chief of the nationsH1471, to whom the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 comeH935! 2PassH5674 ye unto CalnehH3641, and seeH7200; and from thence goH3381 ye to Hamath the greatH7227; then goH3381 down to GathH1661 of the PhilistinesH6430: are they betterH2896 than these kingdomsH4467? or is their borderH1366 greaterH7227 than your borderH1366? 3—ye that put far away the evilH7451 dayH3117, and cause the seat of violenceH2555 to come near; 4that lieH7901 upon bedsH4296 of ivoryH8127, and stretch themselves upon their couchesH4296, and eatH398 the lambsH3733 out of the flockH6629, and the calvesH5695 out of the midstH8432 of the stallH4770; 5that sing idle songsH7892 to the sound of the viol; that invent for themselves instrumentsH3627 of music, like DavidH1732; 6that drinkH8354 wineH3196 in bowlsH4219, and anointH4886 themselves with the chief oilsH8081; but they are not grieved for the affliction of JosephH3130.
7ThereforeH3651 shall they nowH6258 goH1540 captive with the first that goH1540 captive; and the revelry of them that stretched themselves shall pass awayH5493. 8The Lord Jehovah hath swornH7650 by himself, saith Jehovah, the GodH430 of hostsH6635: I abhor the excellency of JacobH3290, and hateH8130 his palaces; therefore will I deliverH5462 up the cityH5892 with all that is therein. 9And it shall come to pass, if there remain tenH6235 menH376 in oneH259 houseH1004, that they shall dieH4191. 10And when a man’s uncleH1730 shall takeH5375 him up, even he that burneth him, to bringH3318 out the bonesH6106 out of the houseH1004, and shall sayH559 unto him that is in the innermostH3411 partsH3411 of the houseH1004, Is there yetH5750 any with thee? and he shall sayH559, No; then shall he sayH559, Hold thy peace; for we may not makeH2142 mention of the nameH8034 of Jehovah. 11For, behold, Jehovah commandeth, and the greatH1419 houseH1004 shall be smitten with breaches, and the littleH6996 houseH1004 with clefts.
12Shall horsesH5483 runH7323 upon the rockH5553? will one plowH2790therewith oxenH1241? that ye have turnedH2015 justiceH4941 into gall, and the fruitH6529 of righteousnessH6666 into wormwoodH3939; 13ye that rejoiceH8055 in a thingH1697 of nought, that sayH559, Have we not takenH3947 to us hornsH7161 by our own strengthH2392? 14For, behold, I will raiseH6965 up against you a nationH1471, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, saith Jehovah, the GodH430 of hostsH6635; and they shall afflict you from the entrance of HamathH2574 unto the brook of the ArabahH6160.
