Amos 7
American Standard Version
1ThusH3541 the LordH136 Jehovah showedH7200 me: and, behold, he formedH3335 locustsH1462 in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king’sH4428 mowings. 2And it came to pass that, when they made an endH3615 of eatingH398 the grassH6212 of the landH776, then I saidH559, O LordH136 Jehovah, forgiveH5545, I beseech thee: how shall JacobH3290 standH6965? for he is smallH6996. 3Jehovah repentedH5162 concerning this: It shall not beH1961, saith Jehovah.
4ThusH3541 the LordH136 Jehovah showedH7200 me: and, behold, the LordH136 Jehovah calledH7121 to contendH7378 by fireH784; and it devouredH398 the greatH7227 deepH8415, and would have eatenH398 up the land. 5Then saidH559 I, O LordH136 Jehovah, ceaseH2308, I beseech thee: how shall JacobH3290 standH6965? for he is smallH6996. 6Jehovah repentedH5162 concerning this: This alsoH1571 shall not beH1961, saith the Lord Jehovah.
7ThusH3541 he showedH7200 me: and, behold, the LordH136 stoodH5324 beside a wallH2346 made by a plumb-line, with a plumb-line in his handH3027. 8And Jehovah saidH559 unto me, AmosH5986, what seest thou? And I saidH559, A plumb-line. Then saidH559 the Lord, Behold, I will setH7760 a plumb-line in the midstH7130 of my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478; I will not againH5750 passH5674 by them any more; 9and the highH1116 placesH1116 of IsaacH3446 shall be desolateH8074, and the sanctuariesH4720 of IsraelH3478 shall be laid waste; and I will riseH6965 against the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379 with the swordH2719.
10Then AmaziahH558 the priestH3548 of Beth-el sentH7971 to JeroboamH3379 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, sayingH559, AmosH5986 hath conspired against thee in the midstH7130 of the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478: the landH776 is not ableH3201 to bear all his wordsH1697. 11For thusH3541 AmosH5986 saith, JeroboamH3379 shall dieH4191 by the swordH2719, and IsraelH3478 shall surely be led away captive out of his landH127. 12Also AmaziahH558 saidH559 unto AmosH5986, O thou seerH2374, go, fleeH1272 thou awayH1272 into the landH776 of JudahH3063, and there eatH398 breadH3899, and prophesyH5012 there: 13but prophesyH5012 not againH5750 any more at Beth-el; for it is the king’sH4428 sanctuaryH4720, and it is a royal houseH1004.
14Then answered AmosH5986, and saidH559 to AmaziahH558, I was no prophetH5030, neither was I a prophet’s sonH1121; but I was a herdsman, and a dresser of sycomore-trees: 15and Jehovah tookH3947 me from following the flockH6629, and Jehovah saidH559 unto me, Go, prophesyH5012 unto my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478. 16NowH6258 thereforeH6258 hearH8085 thou the wordH1697 of Jehovah: Thou sayest, ProphesyH5012 not against IsraelH3478, and drop not thy wordH1697 against the houseH1004 of Isaac; 17thereforeH3651 thusH3541 saith Jehovah: Thy wifeH802 shall be a harlot in the cityH5892, and thy sonsH1121 and thy daughtersH1323 shall fallH5307 by the swordH2719, and thy landH127 shall be dividedH2505 by line; and thou thyself shalt dieH4191 in a landH127 that is uncleanH2931, and IsraelH3478 shall surely be led away captive out of his landH127.
