Context of Luke 4:27
25But with all truthfulness I say to you, that there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when heaven was closed for three and a half years and there came a great famine over all the land. 26Elijah was not sent to any of them, but only to Zarephath in the land of Sidon, to a widowed woman. There were many with tza'arat in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them were purified apart from Naaman the Syrian.” 28Now all in the synagogue were filled with rage upon hearing these things. 29Rising up, they drove Him out of the town and brought Him as far as the edge of the mountain on which their city had been built, in order to throw Him off the cliff.

Commentaries on Luke 4:27
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 27None of them was cleansed - This verse is to be understood as the 26th; for Naaman, being a Syrian, was no leper in Israel. The meaning of these verses is, God dispenses his benefits when, where, and to whom he pleases. No person can complain of his conduct in these respects, because no person deserves any good from his hand. God never punishes any but those who deserve it; but he blesses incessantly those who deserve it not. The reason is evident…Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 14-30Verses 14-30 Christ taught in their synagogues, their places of public worship, where they met to read, expound, and apply the word, to pray and praise. All the gifts and graces of the Spirit were upon him and on him, without measure. By Christ, sinners may be loosed from the bonds of guilt, and by his Spirit and grace from the bondage of corruption. He came by the word of his gospel, to bring light to those that sat in the dark, and by the power of his…Read the comment

As He intended like them to feed the poor and cleanse the lepers, He points to these miracles of…Read the comment
