Revised Version 1895

Samuel 2:12-25

Now the sonsH1121 of EliH5941 were sonsH1121 of Belial; they knewH3045 notH3808 the LORDH3068.

And the customH4941 of the priestsH3548 with the peopleH5971 was, that, when anyH3605 manH376 offeredH2076 sacrificeH2077, the priest’sH3548 servantH5288 cameH935, whileH4941 the fleshH1320 was in seething, with a fleshhook of threeH7969 teethH8127 in his handH3027;

and he struckH5221 it intoH935 the panH3595, or kettleH1731, or caldronH7037, or potH6517; allH3605 that the fleshhook broughtH935 upH5927 the priestH3548 tookH3947 therewith. SoH6213 they didH6213 in ShilohH7887 unto allH3605 the IsraelitesH3478 that cameH935 thither.

YeaH3588, beforeH2962 they burntH6999 the fatH2459, the priest’sH3548 servantH5288 cameH935, and saidH559 to the manH376 that sacrificedH2076, GiveH5414 fleshH1320 to roastH6740 for the priestH3548; for he will notH3808 have sodden fleshH1320 of thee, but rawH2416.

And ifH518 the manH376 saidH559 unto him, They will surelyH3588 burnH6999 the fatH2459 presently, and then takeH3947 as muchH834 as thy soulH5315 desireth; then he would sayH559, Nay, but thou shalt giveH5414 it meH413 nowH6258: and ifH518 notH3808, I will takeH3947 it by forceH2394.

And the sinH2403 of the youngH5288 menH376 was veryH3966 greatH1419 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068: for menH376 abhorred the offering of the LORDH3068.

But SamuelH8050 ministeredH8334 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, being a childH5288, girdedH2296 with a linenH906 ephodH646.

Moreover his motherH517 madeH6213 him a littleH6996 robeH4598, and broughtH5927 it to him from yearH3117 to yearH3117, when sheH517 cameH5927 upH5927 with herH3117 husbandH376 to offerH5927 the yearlyH3117 sacrificeH2077.

And EliH5941 blessedH1288 ElkanahH511 and his wifeH802, and saidH559, The LORDH3068 giveH7760 thee seedH2233 of this womanH802 for the loan whichH834 was lent to the LORDH3068. And they wentH1980 unto their own homeH4725.

And the LORDH3068 visitedH6485 HannahH2584, and sheH3588 conceivedH2029, and bare threeH7969 sonsH1121 and twoH8147 daughtersH1323. And the childH5288 SamuelH8050 grewH1431 beforeH5973 the LORDH3068.

NowH8085 EliH5941 was veryH3966 oldH1121; and he heardH8085 allH3605 that his sonsH1121 didH6213 unto allH3605 IsraelH3478, and howH834 that they layH7901 with the womenH802 that didH6213 service at the doorH6607 of the tentH168 of meetingH4150.

And he saidH559 unto them, WhyH4100 doH6213 ye suchH428 things? for I hearH8085 of your evilH7451 dealingsH1697 from allH3605 this peopleH5971.

Nay, my sonsH1121; for it is noH3808 goodH2896 reportH8052 that I hearH8085: ye makeH8085 the LORD’SH3068 peopleH5971 to transgressH5674.

IfH518 one manH376 sinH2398 againstH2398 anotherH376, GodH430 shall judge him: but ifH518 a manH376 sinH2398 againstH2398 the LORDH3068, who shall entreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened notH3808 unto the voiceH6963 of their fatherH1, becauseH3588 the LORDH3068 would slayH4191 them.
