Samuel 14:24-46
And the menH376 of IsraelH3478 were distressed that dayH3117: but SaulH7586 adjured the peopleH5971, sayingH559, CursedH779 be the manH376 that eateth anyH3605 foodH3899 untilH5704 it be eveningH6153, and I be avengedH5358 on mine enemiesH341. SoH3808 noneH3808 of the peopleH5971 tastedH2938 foodH3899.
And allH3605 the peopleH776 cameH935 intoH935 the forestH3293; and there was honeyH1706 uponH5921 the groundH776.
And when the peopleH5971 were comeH935 unto the forestH3293, beholdH2009, the honeyH1706 dropped: but noH369 manH369 putH935 his handH3027 to his mouthH6310; for the peopleH5971 fearedH3372 the oathH7621.
But JonathanH3129 heardH8085 notH3808 when his fatherH1 charged the peopleH5971 with the oathH7650: wherefore he putH7971 forthH7971 the endH7097 of the rodH4294 that was in his handH3027, and dippedH2881 it in the honeycombH3295, and putH7971 his handH3027 to his mouthH6310; and his eyesH5869 were enlightened.
Then answeredH559 one of the peopleH5971, and saidH559, Thy fatherH1 straitly charged the peopleH5971 with an oathH7650, sayingH559, CursedH779 be the manH376 that eateth foodH3899 this dayH3117. And the peopleH5971 were faint.
Then saidH559 JonathanH3129, My fatherH1 hath troubledH5916 the landH776: seeH7200, I prayH4994 youH3588, howH3588 mine eyesH5869 have been enlightenedH215, becauseH3588 I tastedH2938 a littleH4592 of this honeyH1706.
HowH834 muchH7235 moreH637, ifH3588 haply the peopleH5971 had eatenH398 freelyH398 todayH3117 of the spoilH7998 of their enemiesH341 whichH834 they foundH4672? for nowH6258 hath there been noH3808 great slaughterH4347 among the PhilistinesH6430.
And they smoteH5221 of the PhilistinesH6430 that dayH3117 from MichmashH4363 to AijalonH357: and the peopleH5971 were veryH3966 faint.
and the peopleH5971 flew uponH5921 the spoilH7998, and tookH3947 sheepH6629, and oxenH1241, and calvesH1121, and slewH7819 them on the groundH776: and the peopleH5971 didH6213 eatH398 them with the bloodH1818.
Then they toldH5046 SaulH7586, sayingH559, BeholdH2009, the peopleH5971 sinH2398 againstH5921 the LORDH3068, in that they eatH398 with the bloodH1818. And he saidH559, Ye have dealtH898 treacherouslyH898: rollH1556 a greatH1419 stoneH68 unto meH413 this dayH3117.
And SaulH7586 saidH559, Disperse yourselves among the peopleH5971, and sayH559 unto them, BringH5066 meH413 hither everyH3605 manH376 his oxH7794, and everyH3605 manH376 his sheepH7716, and slayH7819 them hereH2088, and eatH398; and sinH2398 notH3808 againstH413 the LORDH3068 in eatingH398 with the bloodH1818. And allH3605 the peopleH5971 broughtH5066 everyH3605 manH376 his oxH7794 with him that nightH3915, and slewH7819 them there.
And SaulH7586 builtH1129 an altarH4196 unto the LORDH3068: the sameH853 was the first altarH4196 that he builtH1129 unto the LORDH3068.
And SaulH7586 saidH559, LetH3381 usH413 goH3381 downH3381 afterH310 the PhilistinesH6430 by nightH3915, and spoilH962 them untilH5704 the morningH1242 lightH216, and letH3381 usH413 notH3808 leaveH7604 a manH376 of them. And they saidH559, DoH6213 whatsoeverH3605 seemeth goodH2896 unto thee. Then saidH559 the priestH3548, LetH3381 usH413 drawH7126 nearH7126 hither unto GodH430.
And SaulH7586 askedH7592 counsel of GodH430, Shall I goH3381 downH3381 afterH310 the PhilistinesH6430? wilt thou deliverH5414 them intoH3027 the handH3027 of IsraelH3478? But he answeredH6030 him notH3808 that dayH3117.
And SaulH7586 saidH559, DrawH5066 nigh hither, allH3605 ye chiefsH6438 of the peopleH5971: and knowH3045 and seeH7200 wherein this sinH2403 hath been this dayH3117.
For, as the LORDH3068 liveth, which saveth IsraelH3478, thoughH3588 it be in JonathanH3129 my sonH1121, he shall surelyH3588 dieH4191. But there was notH369 a manH1121 among allH3605 the peopleH5971 that answeredH6030 him.
Then saidH559 he unto allH3605 IsraelH3478, Be ye on one sideH5676, and I and JonathanH3129 my sonH1121 will be on the otherH259 sideH5676. And the peopleH5971 saidH559 unto SaulH7586, DoH6213 whatH2896 seemeth goodH2896 unto thee.
Therefore SaulH7586 saidH559 unto the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, Shew the right. And JonathanH3129 and SaulH7586 were takenH3920 by lot: but the peopleH5971 escapedH3318.
And SaulH7586 saidH559, CastH5307 lots betweenH996 meH3920 and JonathanH3129 my sonH1121. And JonathanH3129 was takenH3920.
Then SaulH7586 saidH559 to JonathanH3129, TellH5046 meH413 whatH4100 thou hast doneH6213. And JonathanH3129 toldH5046 him, and saidH559, I didH6213 certainlyH4191 tasteH2938 a littleH4592 honeyH1706 with the endH7097 of the rodH4294 that was in mine handH3027; and, loH2005, I mustH4191 dieH4191.
And SaulH7586 saidH559, GodH430 doH6213 soH6213 and moreH3254 also: for thou shalt surelyH3588 dieH4191, JonathanH3129.
And the peopleH5971 saidH559 unto SaulH7586, Shall JonathanH3129 dieH4191, who hath wrought this greatH1419 salvationH3444 in IsraelH3478? GodH430 forbidH2486: as the LORDH3068 liveth, there shall notH3808 one hairH8185 of his headH7218 fallH5307 to the groundH776; for he hath wrought with GodH430 this dayH3117. SoH6213 the peopleH5971 rescuedH6299 JonathanH3129, that he diedH4191 notH3808.
Then SaulH7586 wentH1980 upH5927 from followingH310 the PhilistinesH6430: and the PhilistinesH6430 wentH1980 to their own placeH4725.
