2And he sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֧חvai.yish.LachH7971messengersמַלְאָכִ֛יםmal.'a.KhimH4397to Ahabאַחְאָ֥ב'ach.'AvH256kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478into the cityהָעִֽירָה׃ha.'I.rahH5892,and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559unto him, Thus saithאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559Ben–hadadH1130,

3Thy silverכַּסְפְּךָ֥kas.pe.KhaH3701and thy goldוּֽזְהָבְךָ֖u.ze.ha.ve.KhaH2091ismine; thy wivesוְנָשֶׁ֧יךָve.na.Shei.khaH802also and thy childrenוּבָנֶ֛יךָu.va.Nei.khaH1121, eventhe goodliestהַטּוֹבִ֖יםha.to.VimH2896, are mine.

4And the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478answeredוַיַּ֤עַןvai.Ya.'anH6030and saidוַיֹּ֔אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559,My lordאֲדֹנִ֣י'a.do.NiH113,O kingהַמֶּ֑לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428,according to thy sayingכִּדְבָרְךָ֖kid.va.re.KhaH1697, I am thine, and all that I have.

5And the messengersהַמַּלְאָכִ֔יםha.mal.'a.KhimH4397came againוַיָּשֻׁ֙בוּ֙vai.ya.Shu.vuH7725,and saidוַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559,Thus speakethאָמַ֥ר'a.MarH559Ben–hadadH1130,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559,Although I have sentשָׁלַ֤חְתִּיsha.Lach.tiH7971unto thee, sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559,Thou shalt deliverתִתֵּֽן׃ti.TenH5414me thy silverכַּסְפְּךָ֧kas.pe.KhaH3701,and thy goldוּזְהָבְךָ֛u.ze.ha.ve.KhaH2091,and thy wivesוְנָשֶׁ֥יךָve.na.Shei.khaH802,and thy childrenוּבָנֶ֖יךָu.va.Nei.khaH1121;

6Yet I will sendאֶשְׁלַ֤ח'esh.LachH7971my servantsעֲבָדַי֙'a.va.DaiH5650unto thee to morrowמָחָ֗רma.CharH4279about this timeכָּעֵ֣תka.'EtH6256,and they shall searchוְחִפְּשׂוּ֙ve.chi.pe.SuH2664thine houseבֵּ֣יתְךָ֔bei.te.khaH1004,and the housesבָּתֵּ֣יba.TeiH1004of thy servantsעֲבָדֶ֑יךָ'a.va.Dei.khaH5650;and it shall beוְהָיָה֙ve.ha.YahH1961, thatwhatsoever is pleasantמַחְמַ֣דmach.MadH4261in thine eyesעֵינֶ֔יךָ'ei.Nei.khaH5869,they shall putיָשִׂ֥ימוּya.Si.muH7760itin their handבְיָדָ֖םve.ya.DamH3027, and take itawayוְלָקָֽחוּ׃ve.la.Ka.chuH3947.

7Then the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478calledוַיִּקְרָ֤אvai.yik.Ra'H7121all the eldersזִקְנֵ֣יzik.NeiH2205of the landהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776,and saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559,Markדְּעֽוּ־de.'u-H3045,I pray you, and seeוּרְא֔וּu.re.'UH7200how this manseekethמְבַקֵּ֑שׁme.va.KeshH1245mischiefרָעָ֖הra.'AhH7451:for he sentשָׁלַ֨חsha.LachH7971unto me for my wivesלְנָשַׁ֤יle.na.ShaiH802,and for my childrenוּלְבָנַי֙u.le.va.NaiH1121,and for my silverוּלְכַסְפִּ֣יu.le.khas.PiH3701,and for my goldוְלִזְהָבִ֔יve.liz.ha.ViH2091;and I deniedמָנַ֖עְתִּיma.Na'.tiH4513him not.

8And all the eldersהַזְּקֵנִ֖יםha.ze.ke.NimH2205and all the peopleהָעָ֑םha.'AmH5971saidוַיֹּאמְר֥וּvai.yo.me.RuH559unto him, Hearkenתִּשְׁמַ֖עtish.Ma'H8085not unto him,nor consentתֹאבֶֽה׃to.VehH14.

9Wherefore he saidוַיֹּ֜אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559unto the messengersלְמַלְאֲכֵ֣יle.mal.'a.KheiH4397of Ben–hadadH1130,Tellאִמְר֞וּ'im.RuH559my lordלַֽאדֹנִ֤יla.do.NiH113the kingהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428,All that thou didst sendשָׁלַ֨חְתָּsha.Lach.taH7971for to thy servantעַבְדְּךָ֤'av.de.KhaH5650at the firstבָרִֽאשֹׁנָה֙va.ri.sho.NahH7223I will doאֶעֱשֶׂ֔ה'e.'e.SehH6213:but this thingוְהַדָּבָ֣רve.ha.da.VarH1697I mayאוּכַ֖ל'u.KhalH3201not doלַעֲשׂ֑וֹתla.'a.SotH6213.And the messengersהַמַּלְאָכִ֔יםha.mal.'a.KhimH4397departedH3212,and broughtH7725him wordדָּבָֽר׃da.VarH1697againH7725.

10And Ben–hadadH1130sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֤חvai.yish.LachH7971unto him, and saidוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559,The godsאֱלֹהִ֖ים'E.lo.HimH430do soיַעֲשׂ֥וּןya.'a.SunH6213unto me, and more alsoיוֹסִ֑פוּyo.Si.fuH3254,if the dustעֲפַ֣ר'a.FarH6083of Samariaשֹׁמְר֔וֹןsho.me.RonH8111shall sufficeיִשְׂפֹּק֙yis.PokH5606for handfulsלִשְׁעָלִ֕יםlish.'a.LimH8168for all the peopleהָעָ֖םha.'AmH5971that followבְּרַגְלָֽי׃be.rag.LaiH7272me.

11And the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478answeredוַיַּ֤עַןvai.Ya.'anH6030and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559,Tellדַּבְּר֔וּda.be.RuH1696him,Let not him that girdethחֹגֵ֖רcho.GerH2296on his armourboastיִתְהַלֵּ֥לyit.ha.LelH1984himself as he that putteth it offכִּמְפַתֵּֽחַ׃kim.fa.Te.achH6605.

12And it came to pass, when Ben–hadadheardכִּשְׁמֹ֙עַ֙kish.Mo.a'H8085this messageהַדָּבָ֣רha.da.VarH1697, as he wasdrinkingשֹׁתֶ֛הsho.TehH8354,he and the kingsוְהַמְּלָכִ֖יםve.ha.me.la.KhimH4428in the pavilionsבַּסֻּכּ֑וֹתba.su.KotH5521,that he saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559unto his servantsעֲבָדָיו֙'a.va.DavH5650,Setשִׂ֔ימוּSi.muH7760yourselves in array.And they setוַיָּשִׂ֖ימוּvai.ya.Si.muH7760themselves in arrayagainst the cityהָעִֽיר׃ha.'IrH5892.

17And the young menנַעֲרֵ֛יna.'a.ReiH5288of the princesשָׂרֵ֥יsa.ReiH8269of the provincesהַמְּדִינ֖וֹתha.me.di.NotH4082went outוַיֵּצְא֗וּvai.ye.tze.'UH3318firstבָּרִֽאשֹׁנָ֑הba.ri.sho.NahH7223;and Ben–hadadH1130sent outוַיִּשְׁלַ֣חvai.yish.LachH7971,and they toldוַיַּגִּ֤ידוּvai.ya.Gi.duH5046him, sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559,There are menאֲנָשִׁ֕ים'a.na.ShimH582come outיָצְא֖וּya.tze.'UH3318of Samariaמִשֹּׁמְרֽוֹן׃mi.sho.me.RonH8111.

18And he saidוַיֹּ֛אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559,Whether they be come outיָצָ֖אוּya.Tza.'uH3318for peaceלְשָׁל֥וֹםle.sha.LomH7965,takeתִּפְשׂ֣וּםtif.SumH8610them aliveחַיִּ֑יםchai.YimH2416;or whether they be come outיָצָ֖אוּya.Tza.'uH3318for warלְמִלְחָמָ֛הle.mil.cha.MahH4421,takeתִּפְשֽׂוּם׃tif.SumH8610them aliveחַיִּ֥יםchai.YimH2416.

19So these young menנַעֲרֵ֖יna.'a.ReiH5288of the princesשָׂרֵ֣יsa.ReiH8269of the provincesהַמְּדִינ֑וֹתha.me.di.NotH4082came outיָצְא֣וּya.tze.'UH3318of the cityהָעִ֔ירha.'IrH5892,and the armyוְהַחַ֖יִלve.ha.Cha.yilH2428which followedאַחֲרֵיהֶֽם׃'a.cha.rei.HemH310them.
